Training recommendations for novice to intermediate lifters, and numerous research studies, include loads that correspond to a 10RM, yet there is no normative data for college-age males available with which to make comparisons.   Therefore, the purpose of this study was to provide 10RM normative reference values for various strength exercises for 18 to 25-year-old males.  Cross-sectional performance and anthropometric data were obtained over the course of five years as part of a college basic strength training course under the direct supervision of an NSCA-CSCS*D.  All exercises were performed according to the guidelines established by the NSCA.  All testing and training occurred in the same facility and utilized the same equipment for testing and training.  Testing occurred prior to the structured training program began and then again upon completion of 12 weeks of training.   A total of 1095 subjects (age = 19.94 +1.633 years; height = 70.57 +3.017 inches; pre-test bodyweight = 188.30 +40.975 pounds; post-test bodyweight = 190.31 +40.688 pounds; years of strength training experience = 3.76 +2.484 years, ranging from zero experience up to 13 years) participated in the study.  Bodyweight categories were derived based upon two established classification systems used in competitive lifting sports.  Percentiles for each weight category were reported, where the weighted average method was used to determine the percentile break points.  These norms provide a range of possible 10RM loads as well as a reference to the strength levels, which could be useful for fitness professionals to more effectively assess and design resistance training programs.

The author introduces the main reasons for aiming his research at the development of isoki-netic, diagnostic and training equipment which should have its basic exploitation in armwres-tling. In the results he discusses what parts the equipment is composed of. He brings the information about what data from the IsoForce system can be obtained and what can be set up on the Tend Force Gauge microcomputer. Later he describes three modes of exercise in detail, their foundation in training process or in diagnosics. The author explains inevitable portable adjustable construction which allows the implementation of all needed movements for armwrestling and that it has to meet other different requirements. In the results he de-scribes all the advantages that TENDO IsoForce brings. He also informs about the tests that can be done within the diagnostics of strength abilities in armwrestling with the help of this equipment. In the end the author states that he sees the big potential in TENDO IsoForce for armwrestling purposes and informs about his plans for future as to the improvement of the equipment.

Parking Guidance and Information (PGI) systems aim at supporting drivers in finding suitable parking spaces, also by predicting the availability at driver’s Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), leveraging information about the general parking availability situation. To do these predictions, most of the proposals in the literature dealing with on-street parking need to train a model for each road segment, with significant scalability issues when deploying a city-wide PGI. By investigating a real dataset we found that on-street parking dynamics show a high temporal auto-correlation. In this paper we present a new processing pipeline that exploits these recurring trends to improve the scalability. The proposal includes two steps to reduce both the number of required models and training examples. The effectiveness of the proposed pipeline has been empirically assessed on a real dataset of on-street parking availability from San Francisco (USA). Results show that the proposal is able to provide parking predictions whose accuracy is comparable to state-of-the-art solutions based on one model per road segment, while requiring only a fraction of training costs, thus being more likely scalable to city-wide scenarios.

Abstract While in our accelerated world everything seems to change, basic values are here to stay. I believe one such aspect is education and training. Although our educational system is built on a relatively permanent basis, instructional methodology on the whole has undergone substantial changes despite that all of the educational system has preserved its role in transmitting, presenting, and preserving knowledge. Since in our fast 21st-century world myriads of facts and fake or questionable information is available, students require new knowledge along with new and perhaps different answers. We believe that education, due to its ability to provide scientifically sound answers to the respective challenges, is vital today. Recent paradigm shifts have led to fundamental alterations in the form of information and knowledge acquisition supported by modern, state-ofthe-art ICT-based methodological solutions and learning environments. The study focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of such learning support schemes or solutions.
