Abstract A method for automatic cutoff of full-scale peanut dryers when peanuts approach a prescribed moisture content without periodic moisture sampling is described. Final weight is mathematically predicted from initial weight and moisture content. Peanut weight loss is monitored and dryer operation subsequently controlled through electronics. Six of 8 drying wagon loads of peanuts dried with the method were dried to a satisfactory moisture content at grading. Additional drying was required on 2 loads. Test results indicate that the method will require less labor, provide better moisture control, and reduce the danger of overdrying compared to conventional methods.

 This study aimed to compare the effect of XP-endo Finisher file (XPF), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) and conventional irrigation technique using side-vented needle (SVN) on the amount of apically extruded debris after the removal of calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 and double antibiotic paste (DAP). Materials and Methods: Sixty extracted human mandibular premolars were used. After decronation, all canals were prepared up to the ProTaper Next X4 file (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). After dryness, teeth were randomly assigned into 2 groups (n=30) according to the Type of intracanal medication used; Ca(OH)2 and DAP then incubated at 37 °C and 100% humidity. After one week, Samples in each group were randomly assigned to 3 subgroups (n=10) according to the method used for medicament removal: XPF, PUI and SVN. Debris extruded during the removal procedure were collected into pre-weighed Eppendorf tubes then left to dry in an incubator at 37°C for 15 days.  The amount of extruded debris was assessed with an analytical balance and calculated by subtracting the initial weight from the final weight of the tube.  Data were statistically analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test. Results:  there was no statistically significant difference regarding the amount of apically extruded debris after using the three irrigation techniques in removal of both Ca(OH)2 and DAP (P-value = 0.141, Effect size = 0.160) and (P-value = 0.237, Effect size = 0.073) respectively. Conclusions:  Neither XPF nor PUI increase the risk of intracanal medicament extrusion beyond the apex.

The conventional method of drying coffee beans that depend on sunlight (drying) has a number of drawbacks, one of which is that the drying productivity takes a long time. In general, coffee drying is carried out until it reaches a moisture content of 12.5% to achieve a quality bean standard. Mathematically, the moisture content can be assessed by paying attention to the initial weight of the coffee beans and the final weight of the coffee beans. So that the use of the Load Cell sensor to read the depreciation value of the coffee bean weight on a coffee dryer powered by Hybrid Collector and LPG coffee beans. Research that has been carried out during 200 minutes of drying in a coffee dryer, the Load Cell sensor is able to read the depreciation value of the coffee bean weight by 114 grams from the initial weight of 978 grams. Therefore, it can be concluded that the final moisture content of coffee beans has reached 12.01% and the final weight of coffee beans is 864 grams.

The results of unique experimental studies of the strength and service life of a metal-composite high-pressure tank are presented. The goal of the study is to analyze the fracture mechanisms and evaluate the strength characteristics of the structure. The methodology included tests of full-scale samples of the tank for durability under short-term static, long-term static and cyclic loading with internal pneumatic pressure. Generalized test results and data of visual measurements, instrumental and acoustic-emission control of deformation processes, accumulation of damages and destruction of full-scale tank samples are presented. Analysis of the strength and stiffness of the structure exposed to internal pneumatic pressure is presented. The types of limiting states of the tanks have been established experimentally. Change in the stress-strain state of the tank under cyclic and prolonged static loading is considered. Specific features of the mechanisms of destruction of a metal-composite tank are determined taking into account the role of strain of the metal liner. The calculated and experimental estimates of the energy potential of destruction and the size of the area affected upon destruction of the tank are presented. Analysis of test results showed that the tank has high strength and resource characteristics that meet the requirements of the design documentation. The results of the experiments are in good agreement with the results of numerical calculations and analysis of the stress-strain state and mechanisms of destruction of the metal-composite tank.

The aim of this research was to produce three-layer Medium Density Particleboard (MDP), with the addition of impregnated paper, in the inner layer, in proportions of 1; 5 and 20%. In this study, MDP was composed with particles of small size in outer layers, and larger particles in internal layer. After panel manufacturing, physical and mechanical tests based on Brazilian Code ABNT NBR 14.810 were carried out to determine moisture content; density; thickness swelling; water absorption; modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of elasticity (MOE) in static bending and internal adhesion. Test results were compared to commercial panels, produced with 100% Eucalyptus, considering the requirements specified by Brazilian Code. Properties presented values close to normative specifications, indicating positively the possibility of production of MDP using addition of waste paper impregnated.

Floating spar platforms are widely used in the Gulf of Mexico for oil production. The spar is a bluff, vertical cylinder which is subject to Vortex Induced Motions (VIM) when current velocities exceed a few knots. All spars to date have been constructed with helical strakes to mitigate VIM in order to reduce the loads on the risers and moorings. Model tests have indicated that the effectiveness of these strakes is influenced greatly by details of their design, by appurtenances placed on the outside of the hull and by current direction. At this time there is limited full scale data to validate the model test results and little understanding of the mechanisms at work in strake performance. The authors have been investigating the use of CFD as a means for predicting full scale VIM performance and for facilitating the design of spars for reduced VIM. This paper reports on the results of a study to benchmark the CFD results for a truss spar with a set of model experiments carried out in a towing tank. The focus is on the effect of current direction, reduced velocity and strake pitch on the VIM response. The tests were carried out on a 1:40 scale model of an actual truss spar design, and all computations were carried out at model scale. Future study will consider the effect of external appurtenances on the hull and scale-up to full scale Reynolds’ numbers on the results.

This review paper covers extensive investigations which were undertaken in order to verify the idea of launching of ships and other floating structures from a horizontal berth by a set of turning pads. This includes structural dynamics during launching, model tests and strength analysis of the structure and the launching system. The most important results, which were used for the design of the launching system, are presented. The preparation of a barge for side launching is described, and the full-scale measurement results are compared with the test results. The advantages of building ships and offshore structures on a horizontal berth are pointed out in the conclusion.
