Aim of study: To evaluate the effects of increasing NaCl levels on the zootechnical performance of pacu fingerling. Area of study: The experiments were conducted at the Aquatic Organism Production and Reproduction Systems Laboratory belonging to the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), in the Palotina Sector, Paraná Estate, Brazil. Material and methods: Seven hundred and fifty fingerlings with an average weight of 3.41 ± 0.09 g were distributed in circular boxes, in a completely randomized design consisting of six treatments and five replications. Treatments comprised soybean- and maize-based diets containing increasing levels of NaCl (0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 1.25%). The experiments were conducted for 50 days. At the end of the experimental period the fish were fasted for 24 hours, anesthetized, weighed and measured to calculate zootechnical performances. Performance data were subjected to an analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s test when significant differences were found between the means (p<0.05). Main results: The influence (p<0.05) of dietary NaCl levels on final weight, feed intake, apparent feed conversion, specific growth rate, average weight gain, clean trunk production, head carcass yield, headless carcass yield, feed intake and survival was assessed. The results indicate that non-salt treated fingerlings along with the 0.25% salt inclusion treatment led to better feed use, as evidenced by apparent feed conversions of 1.64 and 2.02, respectively. Research highlights: The inclusion of NaCl in pacu fingerling soybean and maize-based diets is not recommended.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effects of chromium yeast and digestible lysine levels on the performance and carcass characteristics of finishing pigs. Sixty-four barrows with an initial weight of 72.77 ± 7.20 kg and final weight of 119.44 ± 9.47 kg were used, distributed in a 2 x 2 factorial scheme, with two levels of chromium yeast (Cr0: 0 ppb and Cr800: 800 ppb) and two levels of digestible lysine (L0: recommended level and L+10%: 10%). The recorded air temperature of 30.9 ± 3.7 ºC during the experimental period was considered as heat stress. Performance variables were not influenced (P>0.05); however, L+10% showed an increase (P<0.05) in daily digestible lysine intake. Carcass characteristics of the animals were not influenced (P>0.05) by the chromium or digestible lysine levels. Supplementation with 800 ppb of yeast chromium and a 10% increase in the level of digestible lysine, isolated or associated, did not improve the performance and carcass characteristics of finishing pigs, subjected to high ambient temperatures.

Redesign and building a cracker drying machine should give priority to several factors to find the optimal point, one of which is by conducting experimental experiments. This research was carried out to find out from the tool and also pay attention to several things, such as temperature and fan speed. If one of these factors is ignored, it will not produce dry crackers and the dried crackers are less than optimal. The Independent parameters used in this research are temperature and fan speed. Dependent parameters used in this research are concerning drying time, final weight, and energy consumption. Design experiment using Factorial 3x3. Fan speed has 3 levels, they are 1000rpm, 1500rpm and 2000rpm. The Temperature parameter has 3 levels, they are 16, 19, and 21oC. Based on the design of experiment results, it was found that the drying time response for the combination that has the highest ranking is at a temperature of 19oC with a 2000rpm fan speed resulting in a drying time of 182,677 minutes.

The composition of waste in Indonesia is dominated by organic waste. The waste processing process must be improved to prevent pollution in the market environment. The bioconversion process using Black Soldier Fly larvae or maggots is an effective way to process organic waste. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of feeding on the initial maggot biomass to the addition of the final maggot biomass, determine the maximum maggot weight and determine substrate consumption. This quantitative research used a completely randomized design method consist of five treatments and four replications. The various feeding between total feed and larva were A treatment (270 gram: 150 gram), B (210 gram : 150 gram), C (150 gram : 150 gram), D ( 90 gram : 150 gram) and E ( 30 gram : 150 gras). The data analysis technique used variance test and Duncan’s mean difference test. The result showed that the addition of coconut pulp feed affects to the final weight of the maggot and the value of substrate consumption. The addition of coconut dregs feed which maximally affects to the final weight of the maggot showed in A treatment which ratio coconut dregs: larva (270 gram : 150 gram). The A treatment gave an average final weight of maggot 195 grams in 18 days. The maximum reduction of coconut dregs in the bioconversion process was observed in treatment E with a substrate consumption value of 55%.

The analysis of data on the conduct of fish-biological tests for the period 2016-2020 is presented at fish breeding plants of Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories on juveniles of chum salmon experimental granulated and extruded starter feeds, both with the use (compound feed V1M) and without the use of fermentolysate (compound feed V1M-BF). The highest average daily gains, as well as the average final weight of juveniles, were noted when dry fermentolysate was used as part of the starting compound feed. This is consistent with the data available in the literature on the positive effect of the products of partial protein fermentolysis at the initial stages of salmon development. When carrying out biological experiments, there is a high survival rate of fry from 97.5 to 99.9%, a low feed ratio for granulated feed with dry fermentolysate (0,64-0,80) and a protein utilization ratio (0,25-0,35).

ABSTRACT The use of blood metabolites (BM), fecal starch (FS), and apparent digestion of starch, (ATTSD) as indicators of feed efficiency (FE) in beef cattle in the feedlot was studied. Fourteen bulls were used, originating in an industrial cross, without a defined racial group, with mean body weight of 284.86kg, individually fed, being evaluated in a 42-day confinement system. After the evaluation, the animals were divided into two groups according to the individual FE: high feed efficiency (HE) and low feed efficiency (LE). There was a difference between the groups in the variables FE, feed conversion (FC), final weight (FW), and daily weight gain (DWG). The FE had a positive correlation with DWG, FC, and FW. There was no difference between the groups for the variables BM, FS, and ATTSD, nor was there any correlation between these variables and FE. Considering the feed cost, the HE animals proved more profitable. BM, FS, and ATTSD did not statistically show potential to be used as indicators of FE, despite the evidence of numerical differences of these variables between the different groups, tendency of correlations with FE, and discriminating function with potential assertiveness.

The Dempster-Shafer evidence theory has been extensively used in various applications of information fusion owing to its capability in dealing with uncertain modeling and reasoning. However, when meeting highly conflicting evidence, the classical Dempster’s combination rule may give counter-intuitive results. To address this issue, we propose a new method in this work to fuse conflicting evidence. Firstly, a new evidence distance metric, named Belief Mover’s Distance, which is inspired by the Earth Mover’s Distance, is defined to measure the difference between two pieces of evidence. Subsequently, the credibility weight and distance weight of each piece of evidence are computed according to the Belief Mover’s Distance. Then, the final weight of each piece of evidence is generated by unifying these two weights. Finally, the classical Dempster’s rule is employed to fuse the weighted average evidence. Several examples and applications are presented to analyze the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results manifest that the proposed method is remarkably effective in comparison with other methods.

Guinea fowl appears to be a promising poultry meat source but its production strength under most common extensive or semi-intensive impair the potentials, this work therefore was done to investigate the dietary protein requirement of 10 weeks old Guinea fowl fed exclusively with compounded feed under intensive system. It was conducted at the poultry unit of Teaching and Research Farm unit of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso  and lasted for a period of 16 weeks. A total number of 120 growing guinea fowl birds were used for the experiment; they were equally and randomly distributed to four dietary treatments of three replicates per group with ten birds per replicate, they were randomly allocated to diets 1, 2, 3 and 4 which contained 16%, 18%, 20% and 22% crude protein respectively. Weekly weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were monitored. At the end of 15 weeks, two birds per replicate were randomly picked, housed in metabolic cage and their feacal samples were collected for nutrient analysis and digestibility study, blood samples were collected from same sampled birds for hematological characteristics, so also their meat samples for meat quality analysis. Highest final weight (1555.99g) was recorded from 18% followed by 20% (1517.55g) while the least final weight was recorded from 22% (1482.72g). The highest and least daily feed intake was recorded from 22%(99.53g) and 16% (86.37g) respectively. There were significant (P<0.05) differences in the birds' nutrient 3 3 digestibility except for ash. Significantly (P<0.05) high value of WBC (19.53 xl0 /mm ) was 3 3 3 3 3 3 observed in 20% compared to 16.98 xl0 /mm , 12.65 xl0 /mm , 10.83 xl0 /mm from 16%, 18%, 22% respectively, while the differential counts (%) of monocytes, lymphocytes, heterophil, basophil obtained were not significantly (P>0.05) influenced. Crude protein content of the thigh and breast muscle increased (P<0.05) while the crude fat decreased with increased dietary protein while no significant (P>0.05) difference was observed in the values recorded for ash. Hence for better performance, 18% dietary protein should be fed considerably in the diet of growing guinea fowl.
