The species Sigara (Subsigara) oxiana Jansson, 1983 (Corixidae) is recorded for the first time from Kazakhstan. New data on the distribution of two species, which are rare in Kazakhstan, Sigara (Subsigara) fossarum (Leach, 1817) and Hebrus (Hebrus) pilipes Kanyukova, 1997 (Hebridae) are also provided. Additional data on sampling localities of Callicorixa producta producta (Reuter, 1880), Corixa affinis Leach, 1817 and Corixa punctata (Illiger, 1807) in Kazakhstan are reported. Additions to the bibliography on aquatic and semiaquatic heteropterans of the Kazakh fauna are given.

ABSTRACT The South American genus Heteropyge Silvestri, 1897 is revised, accommodating now six accepted species. Adults of the poorly known species Heteropyge araguayensis (Schubart, 1947) are described for the first time from near-topotypic material collected near the Araguaia River, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. In addition, based on recent samplings and on material from Schubart’s collection, H. bidens (Schubart, 1945) is removed from the synonymy of H. cayennophilus (Silvestri, 1897) and revalidated. Both species show significant differences concerning the gonopods and male leg-pair 1. New records and additional data for H. bidens and H. cayennophilus are provided, as well as an updated checklist of the species belonging to Heteropyge.

We report 13 species of treefrogs belonging to six genera of the family Rhacophoridae from Lai Chau Province on the basis of new amphibian collection from Sin Ho District. Four of them, Kurixalus bisacculus, Polypedates mutus, Rhacophorus kio, and Theloderma bicolor are recorded for the first time from this province. We also provide additional data of morphological characters and natural history of the afore mentioned species. Among 13 recorded species of rhacophorids from Lai Chau Province, two species is listed in the IUCN Red List (2018) and two are listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam (2007).

Porifera are filter-feeding organisms known to bioaccumulate different contaminants in their tissues. The presence of mercury (Hg) has been reported in different Mediterranean species, mainly collected in the southern coast of France. In the present study, mercury concentrations in the tissue of the sponges of Montecristo and Giglio, two islands of Tuscany Archipelago National Park (TANP), are presented for the first time. Analyses of total mercury content were performed by Direct Mercury Analyzer. Statistical differences have been reported in the Hg concentrations of species collected in both islands, but they do not appear related to the anthropic impacts of the islands. Among the collected species, a high intra- and inter-variability have been recorded, with Cliona viridis showing the lowest concentration (0.0167–0.033 mg·kg−1 dry weight), and Chondrosia reniformis and Sarcotragus spinosulus the highest (0.57 ± 0.15 and 0.64 ± 0.01 mg·kg−1 dry weight, respectively). The variability of Hg measured did not allow us to identify sponges as bioindicators of toxic elements. Anyway, these results improve knowledge on the ecosystem of the TANP, underlining the species-specificity of metal concentrations for Porifera, and providing additional data to address the main input of the Marine Strategy guidelines to protect coasts, seas and oceans.

After four straight months of increased activity, SEG’s September survey of oil companies and domestic contractors shows exploration in the U.S. and U.S. waters declined during the month (Figure 1). Comparative figures for U.S. land crews and marine vessels are given in Table 1. Preliminary seismic crew data from outside the U.S. were reported for the first time in September. The information in Table 2 was reported by the oil companies and contractors who provided the U.S. data. Additional data from other companies being surveyed will be announced as soon as it is available. SEG’s U.S. Seismic Crew Count is taken monthly for the Federal Energy Administration and is financed by a grant from the International Association of Geophysical Contractors.

The bibliography concerning the Mediterranean Sipuncula is reviewed, particularly that from the eastern Mediterranean. Additional data are provided from macrobenthic samples collected between 1974 and 1997 in the Hellenic waters. A total of 17 species are recorded, five of which (Sipunculus norvegicus, Golfingia elongata, Nephasoma lilljeborgi, Thysanocardiacatharinae and Aspidosiphon (Akrikos) mexicanus) are reported for the first time in Hellenic waters. Three more species (Onchnesoma squamatum squamatum, Aspidosiphon (Aspidosiphon) elegans, Apionsoma (Apionsoma) trichocephalus) which are found exclusively in the extreme eastern basin (Israel, Egypt) raises the number of eastern Mediterranean Sipuncula species to twenty.

The leeches (Hirudinea: Piscicolidae) Calliobdella vivida (Verrill, 1872), Malmiana brunnea (Johansson, 1896), M. scorpii (Malm, 1863), Oceanobdella sexoculata (Malm, 1863), Platybdella anarrhichae (Diesing, 1859), Myzobdella lugubris Leidy, 1851, Mysidobdella borealis (Johansson, 1899), and Oxytonostoma typica Malm, 1863 are reported from the Bay of Fundy region. Extensions of northern ranges are given for C. vivida and M. lugubris from the inner Bay of Fundy. Oxytonostoma typica is reported for the first time from Raja senta and R. erinacea. Anarhichus lupus, Acipenser oxyrhynchus, Clupea harengus, and Alosa sapidissima are new hosts for C. vivida. Additional data on morphology, pigmentation pattern, and prevalence are given for O. typica, O. sexoculata, M. scorpii, and P. anarrhichae. A key to marine and estuarine leeches presently known from the Bay of Fundy and adjacent waters is given.

Abstract. We herein provide an updated checklist of 33 amphibian species from Phu Yen Province, Vietnam. Eight of them are reported for the first time from this province, namely Ophryophryne gerti, O. hansi, Xenophrys major, Glyphoglossus molossus, Kaloula indochinensis, Microhyla berdmorei, M. nanapollexa, and Amolops spinapectoralis. Additional data of morphological characters of afore mentioned species were also provided. The number of amphibian species recorded was highest from Tay Hoa district (18 species), followed by Song Hinh district (15 species), Dong Xuan district (10 species), Tuy Hoa city (8 specise), Son Hoa district (8 species), Dong Hoa (4 specise), and Tuy An district (3 species). In terms of conservation concern, three species are listed in the IUCN Red List (2016) and one species is listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book (2007).

The Romanian Trichoceridae fauna is poorly known. Trichocera (Saltrichocera) annulata Meigen, 1818 and Trichocera (Saltrichocera) maculipennis Meigen, 1818 are amongst the most widespread species in Europe, but the former species was not recorded from Romania so far and the later has only 120 years old records. Herein we report T. (S.) annulata from Romania for the first time and bring new records for T. (S.) maculipennis. A total of 18 Trichocera species are known from Romania at the moment.

The present study provides additional data on the distributional range of six alien foraminiferal species in living assemblages from Greek coastal areas (Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean). Amphistegina lobiferaLARSEN 1976, Sorites orbiculus (FORSK L 1775) and Coscinospira hemprichii EHRENBERG 1839 are well established in Greek coastal areas, whereas Triloculina fichteliana D'ORBIGNY 1839, Planogypsina acervalis (BRADY 1884) and Cymbaloporetta plana (CUSHMAN 1924), are recorded for the first time in this paper. The occurrence of these species in a number of sites in the Aegean Sea establishes their presence in the Eastern Mediterranean.
