The study of ethnocultural and age characteristics of the advertising messages’ perception by potential consumers is extremely relevant and practically significant in the context of active international trading and industrial relations. While perception is a cycle guided and organized by a cognitive schema, the final image includes a person’s knowledge of the world. This determines the importance of studying the factors that determine the specifics of creating an image. The authors of this article consider the perception of advertising as a process of generating a meaning, which in the context of intercultural communication reveals cultural characteristics that are potentially important when choosing a strategy of behavior. The empirical study involved 100 people living in the United States and Russia. The research methods revealed differences in the assessment of values in both groups. Further research aimed at studying the specifics of advertising media texts showed that in the perception of advertising, not age differences, but the cultural aspect plays the leading role. The visual appeal of the commercial, the semantic and imaginative transparency, the positive attitude towards the main characters do not affect the desire of potential consumers of the American and Russian sample groups to purchase the advertised product. The research showed that studying the perception of advertising media texts allows you to obtain additional information about the representatives of different cultures. A cultural artifact actualizes specific features and allows you to model the idea of the overall integrity of the phenomenon under study.

Our aim was to investigate and compare the effects of cooperating with either a friend or a stranger in a business context on trust and trustworthiness in 2 different cultures. In China, guanxi is a special form of personal relationship in which the exchange partners bond through reciprocal obligations. We conducted cooperation experiments based on the supply chain task in which Chinese and U.S. participants cooperated with their friends and with strangers. The results indicated that both Chinese and U.S. participants had higher levels of trust and trustworthiness for their friends than for strangers. Moreover, Chinese participants made a stronger distinction between friends and strangers than did U.S. participants. In addition, Chinese participants had lower levels of trust and trustworthiness than did U.S. participants. The cooperation experiments enrich the theoretical field of investigating the effects of personal relationships on cooperative trust and trustworthiness, and provide practical value to the management of business cooperation in different cultures.

In this article, the authors consider the findings of a multi-year, case study-based research project on young workers and the labor movement in four countries: France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The authors examine the conditions under which young workers actively engage in contemporary labor movements. Although the industrial relations context matters, the authors find the most persuasive explanations to be agency-based. Especially important are the relative openness and active encouragement of unions to the leadership development of young workers, and the persistence and creativity of groups of young workers in promoting their own engagement. Embodying labor’s potential for movement building and resistance to authoritarianism and right-wing populism, young workers offer hope for the future if unions can bring them aboard.

The Asia-Pacific countries achieved rapid economic growth with the flying-goose model in the 1980s, growth buttressed by export-oriented development strategies and the policy culture in these countries. While Japan and the other Asia-Pacific countries still have strong growth potential, many problems remain, including trade imbalances with the United States and the rise of protectionism there, the Asia-Pacific economies' vulnerability, and the need to consolidate the infrastructure for growth. It is imperative that Japan contribute to the development of the region by responding effectively to these issues and that it strengthen the international trading arrangements by promoting Asia-Pacific cooperation premised on openness. Given the region's great internal diversity, Asia-Pacific economic cooperation can well serve as a model for international economic coordination.

As part of the agency's broader noise research program, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has undertaken a multi-year research effort to quantify the impacts of aircraft noise exposure on communities around commercial service airports in the United States (U.S.). The overall goal of the study was to produce an updated and nationally representative civil aircraft dose-response curve; providing the relationship between annoyance and aircraft noise exposure around U.S. airport communities. To meet this goal, the FAA sponsored a research team to help design and conduct a national survey, known as the Neighborhood Environmental Survey (NES). By assessing the results of the NES through both internal review and input from public comment, the FAA seeks to better inform its noise research priorities and noise policies. This paper will outline the FAA's motivation to conduct the NES as well as how its findings will help inform ongoing work to address aircraft noise concerns. Additional information describing the noise methodology and survey methodology are provided in companion papers.

There have been 350,000 tweets generated by the interaction of social networks with different cultures and educational backgrounds in the last ten years. Various sentiments are expressed in the user comments, from support to hatred. The sentiments regarded the United States General Election in 2020. This dataset has 3,000 data gotten from previous research. We augment it becomes 15,000 data to facilitate training and increase the required data. Sentiment detection is carried out using the CNN-BiLSTM architecture. It is chosen because CNN can filter essential words, and BiLSTM can remember memory in two directions. By utilizing both, the training process becomes maximum. However, this method has disadvantages in the activation. The drawback of the existing activation method, i.e., "Zero-hard Rectifier" and "ReLU Dropout" problem to become the cause of training stopped in the ReLU activation, and the exponential function cannot be set become the activation function still rigid towards output value in the SERLU activation. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel activation method to repair activation in CNN-BiLSTM architecture. It is namely the ASERLU activation function. It can adjust positive value output, negative value output, and exponential value by the setter variables. So, it adapts more conveniently to the output value and becomes a flexible activation function because it can be increased and decreased as needed. It is the first research applied in architecture. Compared with ReLU and SERLU, our proposed method gives higher accuracy based on the experiment results.

Agentic self-enhancement consists of self-protective and self-advancing tendencies that can lead to aggression, especially when challenged. Because self-enhancers often endorse aggression to defend or enhance the self-concept, religious self-enhancement should lead to endorsing aggression to defend or enhance one’s religion. We recruited three samples ( N = 969) from Mechanical Turk ( n = 409), Iran ( n = 351), and the U.S.–Mexico border region ( n = 209). We found that religious (but not secular) self-enhancement in the form of religious overclaiming predicted support for, and willingness to engage in, religious aggression. In contrast, accuracy in religious knowledge had mostly negative associations with aggression-relevant outcomes. These results emerged across two separate religions (Christianity and Islam) and across three different cultures (the United States, Iran, and the U.S.–Mexico border region). Thus, religious overclaiming is a promising new direction for studying support for religious aggression and identifying those who may become aggressive in the name of God.

For several years, decline was observed in mature pecan (Carya illinoensis (F.A. Wangenheim) K. Koch) trees in an orchard in Dona Ana County, New Mexico despite normal fertilization and irrigation practices. Affected trees were growing in sandy soil in two widely separated irrigation terraces and exhibited chlorosis of foliage and substantial die-back of branches in the upper canopy. Examination of feeder roots revealed the presence of numerous small galls and egg masses, with root-knot nematode females often visibly protruding from root tissue. Attempts to culture the nematode on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ‘Rutgers’) were unsuccessful. Females and egg masses were collected from fresh pecan roots and sent to the USDA Nematology Laboratory in Beltsville, MD, in October 2000, where specimens were identified as Meloidogyne partityla Kleynhans (1) based on morphological examination. This is the first report of M. partityla from New Mexico, and the second report of this nematode outside South Africa. Starr et al. (2) first reported M. partityla from pecan in the United States in 1996, after recovering the nematode from five orchards in Texas. In their study, the host range of M. partityla was limited to members of the Juglandaceae, which may explain the inability of the New Mexico population to reproduce on tomato.
