Perceived Entrepreneurial Competencies Required By Automobile Technology Students In Technical Colleges In Bauchi And Gombe States, Nigeria

The purpose of the study was to investigate the perceived entrepreneurial competencies required by Automobile Technology students in Technical Colleges in Bauchi and Gombe states of North Eastern Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 265 consisting of 96 Automobile Technology Teachers and 169 Automobile Technology Entrepreneurs. The study was guided by three research questions and three hypotheses, formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The instrument used for the study was a structured questionnaire which was face and content validated by three experts. Cronbach Alpha reliability method was adopted to determine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and z-test statistic. It was found out that entrepreneurial competencies were perceived to be highly required on marketing, financial and accounting competencies by Automobile Technology Students. It was recommended among others that, the teaching staff of technical colleges should be exposed to adequate training and retraining on the entrepreneurial skills and competencies and the new contents of automobiles technology to be included into the curriculum of technical colleges.

This study investigated the areas of cooperative learning approaches for sprouting employability in polytechnic building technology students’ in Nigeria for the expertise of practice upon graduating from school using descriptive survey research design. Two research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. The population for the study consisted of 99 building technology lecturers that offer building technology programmes in Federal, State and Private Polytechnics in South-East and South-South Nigeria. Since the population was not too large, there was no sampling. The instrument used for data collection was a 36-item questionnaire derived from the literature reviewed. Five experts validated the instrument. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. The research questions were answered using Mean statistic, while the null hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and z-test at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed among others that lecturers utilize all the aspects of cooperative learning approaches; and that all the employability skills required by building technology students/graduates can be developed using cooperative learning approaches. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended among others that assessment of building technology students should be all-encompassing to include the development and mastery of employability skills for functionality in the ever dynamic and global workplace.

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to assess of information and communications technology skills possessed by technical teachers in technical colleges of Kano State, Nigeria. Approach/Methodology/Design: A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 157 which consisted of 86 experienced and 71 inexperienced technical teachers of Technical Colleges in Kano State. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled: Assessment of Information and Communications Technology Skills Possession Question (AICTSPQ) developed by the researchers. The instrument was validated by three experts and a reliability coefficient of 0.78 was obtained using Cronbach Alpha reliability method. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while z-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings: The finding of the study revealed that Technical teachers are unskillful in ICT operation such as MS excel, Photoshop, database, animation, forum and Corel draw; and have a low level of ICT utilization. Practical Implications: The findings of the study have implications for concerned authorities. The Government should provide ICT infrastructure in the State’s Technical Colleges in order to have conducive environment for teaching of the trade subjects and enforce integration by regular supervision among others. Originality/value: The technical teachers were unskilful in the following; MS excel, Photoshop, database, animation, forum and Corel draw, video conferencing, instructional game, interactive whiteboard and online teaching as the utilization of ICT facilities was low among technical teachers in Technical Colleges of Kano State.

The study investigated counsellors‟ role in ensuring quality education for national security in Enugu Education Zone. One research question and one null hypothesis were formulated to guide the study was tested at.05 level of significance. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study consisted of 59 school counsellors in the 31 public secondary schools in the area. The number is small and manageable; so no sampling was done. The instrument used for data collection was a 6-item questionnaire. The instrument was validated by three experts from Faculty of Education, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. One each from Guidance and Counselling, Psychology and measurement and evaluation. Mean, with standard deviation and t-test statistic were used for data analysis. The study revealed, among others that counsellors ought to encourage the development of students' talents and strengths. Secondly, it was also found out that there is no significance difference between the mean ratings of male counsellors and female‟ school counsellors in their role towards ensuring quality education for national security in Enugu Education Zone of Enugu State, Nigeria. The study recommended, among others, that seminars and workshops should be organized regularly for school counsellors with a view to updating their knowledge on how to effectively curb insecurity while encouraging students in their talents and abilities.

This study investigated the sources of marital stress among working class women in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study also examined the influence of age, type of marriage, and length of years in service on the respondents’ views. The study employed a descriptive survey method. A total of 422 working class women in Kwara State were selected from a population size of 7,237 through a multi-stage sampling procedure. The participants responded to a researcher-designed questionnaire entitled ‘Sources of Marital Stress Questionnaire (SMSQ)’. The validity of the instrument was done by a team of experts (5) from the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin and the reliability was established using test re-test reliability method, which yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.65. The data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that the sources of marital stress of working class women were sexual incompatibility with their spouses, financial constraints, in-laws’ interference, and religious differences among others. Results further indicated that there were significant differences in the sources of marital stress among working class women in Kwara State on the bases of age, type of marriage and length of years in marriage. In view of the findings of this study, it was concluded that the sources of marital stress among working class women were numerous. Recommendations were made that counsellors should assist working class women to cope with their sexual incompatibilities with their spouses through appropriate counseling services.


This research determined students’ perception of teachers’ characteristics of interest, attitude and subject mastery as required in the teaching of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone of Ebonyi State. The study made use of a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the chemistry students in all public secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone. From a total population of six hundred and thirty (630) senior secondary II students, a sample of three hundred (300) students was used for the study selected by stratified random sampling technique. This was based on the four local government areas in the Education zone. A structured questionnaire in a four point Likert type format was used for data collection. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.88, which showed a high internal consistency. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the lone null hypothesis. Results of the study indicated that students perceived to a high extent; teachers’ interest, attitude towards chemistry and mastery of the subject as necessary characteristics in the teaching of chemistry. The hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance was not significant. Based on the results of the study and the educational implications of the results, recommendations were made.

Art is everything in life, no nation or society survives without art. It can also be seen as a natural and immediate form of expression. It equips the teeming youths or the citizenry with job opportunities and reduces unemployment rate, but on the other hand, unemployment and national insecurity is drastically on the increase. This necessitated the assessment of fine and applied arts curriculum in terms of human capacity building in north eastern Nigeria. Two research questions were formulated to guide the researcher in the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted to seek the opinion of the respondents. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 50 students and 12 lecturers from three colleges of education from three states of north eastern Nigeria, these are:- Federal College of Education (Tech) Potiskum, Yobe State, Federal College of Education (Tech) Gombe, Gombe State and College of Education Azare, Bauchi State. The total of 62 subjects was used as the population. Statistical mean was used to answer the research questions and t-test was used to analyze the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. In the findings, infrastructure and facilities are so much lacking. Some recommendations were made one of which is: there is the need for an analytical curriculum.

This study was carried out to identify strategic approaches for reengineering guidance and counselling services in public secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. The sample for the study was 255 respondents made up of guidance counsellors and secondary school managers in the area of the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured close-ended questionnaire titled: “Strategic Approaches for Reengineering Guidance and Counselling Services Questionnaire (SARGCSQ)”. The instrument was validated by three experts while the reliability was ascertained using the Cronbach Alpha reliability method which yielded a coefficient of 0.88. Two hundred and fifty-five (255) copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents out of which 243 copies were completely filled and retrieved. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and t-test statistics were used to test the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The researcher in the study identified 10 capacity building approaches, 8 fund-related approaches and 10 programme review approaches for reengineering guidance and counselling services in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Findings indicated that there are no significant (p<0.05) differences in the mean ratings of the responses of guidance counsellors and school management on fund-related approaches and programme review approaches for reengineering guidance and counselling services in public secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Although, there was a significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of the responses of guidance counsellors and school management on capacity building approaches for reengineering guidance and counselling services in public secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study among others recommended that there should be constant capacity building of guidance counsellors through in-service training and retraining, relevant conferences, and workshops for improved efficiency in service delivery.

In this rapidly changing world, the quest for self-reliance has always been the desire of many nations especially in the present face of global economic challenge. This study centres on using blogging platforms for acquiring Entreprneurial skills for Self-reliance among Educational Technology Students in University of Calabar. The study utilized the descriptive survey design. Three research questions were raised and three research hypotheses were stated to guide the study. The population comprised all the 39 final year educational technology students from university of calabar. Thirty-nine final year Educational Technology students were purposively adopted as sample size for the study. Linear regression was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The model summary table was used to answer research questions. The instrument for data collection was the utilization of blogging platforms for acquiring entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance questionnaire (UBPFESRQ). The instrument was face validated with a reliability coefficient of .80 using Chronbach Alpha Statistics.&nbsp; It was found that the Use of blogger, wordpress and steemit had no significant relationship with acquisition of entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance among educational technology students in University of Calabar. Some recommendations were made to include that emphasis should be laid on entrepreneurial skills and educational technology tools such as design, production and modernization of indigenous resources among students through practices and innovations for achieving self-reliant generation.

Technical college curriculum is lacking entrepreneurial competencies required by the technical college students to become entrepreneurs upon graduation. The purpose of the study was to ascertain entrepreneurial competencies need by technical college students in Nigeria. The study was guided by a research question. A descriptive survey research was used in the study. The study population consists of 15 technical teachers. The tool used for the study was a structured questionnaire validated by three experts. The Cronbach Alpha reliability method was adopted to ascertain the internal consistency of the instrument that produced a reliability coefficient of 0.70. The collected data were analysed by means of mean and standard deviation to answer the research question. The values found for the Cronbach’s Alpha allow the research to conclude that the instrument applied is reliable regarding technical teachers perception on the entrepreneurial competencies required for integration into technical college program. The study revealed that technical college students required entrepreneurial managerial competencies for self-employment. Therefore, the instrument can be used in context of entrepreneurial competencies integration and reveal the specific elements of entrepreneurial competencies. The future aim of the study is to compare and contrast the instrument with another entrepreneurial competencies component.

The study was a descriptive survey that investigated clamping down the activities of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) miracle centres for quality secondary education in Anambra state, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study comprised 2,850 students from 18 public secondary schools in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, while 570 students representing 350 females and 220 males (20%) were drawn as the sample using simple random technique. The instrument for data collection was a 21 item questionnaire, validated by three experts, two from Educational Management and Policy department and one from Measurement and Evaluation Unit of Educational Foundations department, all in Faculty of Education Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Cronbach Alpha reliability test was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded co-efficient value of 0.85. Data obtained were analyzed through mean and t-test statistic at 0.05 level of significance. The findings indicate that various types of SSCE miracle centres activities should be clamped down like shutting down of all miracle centres and enforcement of examination malpractice Act 33 of 1999 as sanction to defaulters. Gender and location do not differ significantly in SSCE miracle centre types of activities and methods of clamping down. Based on the findings, the study recommended inter alia that, miracle centres should be clamped down, and enforcement of Policy Act 33 of 1999 upheld to sanction defaulters.
