In this rapidly changing world, the quest for self-reliance has always been the desire of many nations especially in the present face of global economic challenge. This study centres on using blogging platforms for acquiring Entreprneurial skills for Self-reliance among Educational Technology Students in University of Calabar. The study utilized the descriptive survey design. Three research questions were raised and three research hypotheses were stated to guide the study. The population comprised all the 39 final year educational technology students from university of calabar. Thirty-nine final year Educational Technology students were purposively adopted as sample size for the study. Linear regression was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The model summary table was used to answer research questions. The instrument for data collection was the utilization of blogging platforms for acquiring entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance questionnaire (UBPFESRQ). The instrument was face validated with a reliability coefficient of .80 using Chronbach Alpha Statistics.  It was found that the Use of blogger, wordpress and steemit had no significant relationship with acquisition of entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance among educational technology students in University of Calabar. Some recommendations were made to include that emphasis should be laid on entrepreneurial skills and educational technology tools such as design, production and modernization of indigenous resources among students through practices and innovations for achieving self-reliant generation.

This research determined students’ perception of teachers’ characteristics of interest, attitude and subject mastery as required in the teaching of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone of Ebonyi State. The study made use of a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the chemistry students in all public secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone. From a total population of six hundred and thirty (630) senior secondary II students, a sample of three hundred (300) students was used for the study selected by stratified random sampling technique. This was based on the four local government areas in the Education zone. A structured questionnaire in a four point Likert type format was used for data collection. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.88, which showed a high internal consistency. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the lone null hypothesis. Results of the study indicated that students perceived to a high extent; teachers’ interest, attitude towards chemistry and mastery of the subject as necessary characteristics in the teaching of chemistry. The hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance was not significant. Based on the results of the study and the educational implications of the results, recommendations were made.

The paper examined the perception of student counsellors studying Guidance and Counselling in various Nigerian Universities on ethical codes which should guide and protect the counselling profession. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,500 students, drawn from selected Nigerian universities using the multistage sampling technique. The instrument used to gather data for the study was a 50 item questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The psychometric properties were determined and found adequate for use. The test-re-test method was applied to determine reliability which yielded r = 0.88. Senior lecturers in the Department of Guidance and Counselling ascertained content and construct adequacy of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The study found out that respondents perceived counselling codes highly irrespective of their gender and religious beliefs although male respondents showed stronger agreement. It was therefore recommended that the Counselling Association of Nigeria should develop counselling ethical codes for professional counselling practice in Nigeria without considering any bias for gender and religion.

This study investigated the areas of cooperative learning approaches for sprouting employability in polytechnic building technology students’ in Nigeria for the expertise of practice upon graduating from school using descriptive survey research design. Two research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. The population for the study consisted of 99 building technology lecturers that offer building technology programmes in Federal, State and Private Polytechnics in South-East and South-South Nigeria. Since the population was not too large, there was no sampling. The instrument used for data collection was a 36-item questionnaire derived from the literature reviewed. Five experts validated the instrument. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. The research questions were answered using Mean statistic, while the null hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and z-test at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed among others that lecturers utilize all the aspects of cooperative learning approaches; and that all the employability skills required by building technology students/graduates can be developed using cooperative learning approaches. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended among others that assessment of building technology students should be all-encompassing to include the development and mastery of employability skills for functionality in the ever dynamic and global workplace.

This study focused on investigating the ergonomics and ergonomic considerations of learning environments of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive survey design. Population of study comprised all the three universities in Rivers State and a total of 136 lecturers, 230 students and 6 staff of works departments constituted the sample. Four research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Data was collected using a researcher-constructed questionnaire entitled Educational Ergonomics in Higher Institutions questionnaire (EEIHIQ). An observation checklist and interview schedules were also used. The instrument was validated by experts and its reliability index was established at .75 index using Pearson Moment correlation coefficient. Mean scores were used to answer the research questions while the z–test was used to test the hypotheses at the .05 level of significance. The findings were that school buildings and other teaching and learning facilities in the universities are ergonomically below standard and unsafe. The prevailing occurrences of social, economic and environmental challenges have created enormous responsibility for the education sector towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs 2030) in developing nations. Therefore, this study was carried out to examine the extent students of business education have been empowered for decent work and productive employment for all through proper awareness and innovative instructional strategies. The study adopts a descriptive survey design and formulated relevant research questions and hypotheses. A sample of 159 final-year students of Business Education at federal and state colleges of education in Lagos, Nigeria, were selected from the population using random, purposive and stratified sampling techniques. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire. The internal consistency of the research instrument using Cronbach’s alpha correlation coefficient yielded an average index of 0.76. The statistical tools used for analysing the data for research questions and hypotheses are mean and t-test, respectively, at a 0.05 level of significance. The study found that innovative instructional strategies for decent work and productive employment for all were not practically employed. In addition, students lacked proper orientation about the SDGs 2030. Review of curriculum content and the instructional strategies are parts of the recommendations.   Keywords: Business education students, instructional strategies, decent work, productive employment, orientation.

This study investigated approaches and challenges of managing functional and innovative Entrepreneurship Centres for global competitiveness in public universities in South-South, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design and was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 487 from the population of 9,735 academic staff in the 14 public universities in South-South, Nigeria. Data was collected using a survey questionnaire instrument which was validated for reliability at 0.88. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the research questions while z-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that in South-South, Nigeria were not globally competitive. Some of the approaches that could be deployed to improve their global competitiveness included using diverse means to enhance entrepreneurial behaviours and mindsets of the students and adopting extensive use of visuals, digital tools and multimedia to enhance their creativity. The challenges identified include inadequate funding, poor university-industry partnership on Research & Development and inadequate infrastructural facilities. It is recommended that Entrepreneurship Centres in public universities in South-South, Nigeria should be adequately funded and they should adopt relevant approaches in order to become globally competitive.

This article reports on the main purpose of the study which assessed the adequacy and utilization of educational technology for effective teaching of environmental sciences programmes by the lecturers of Kano State Polytechnic, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study. The population comprised 23 lecturers teaching environmental sciences courses in the Polytechnic. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. A structured questionnaire containing 20 items in 5 point likert rating scale was developed and validated by experts. Reliability co-efficient of 0.75 was established using Cronbach Alpha which shows the internal consistency of the instrument was high. Collection of data was done by the researcher. Questions were answered and analysed with Mean and Standard Deviation. Findings reveal that educational technology for teaching environmental sciences courses were not adequate. Furthermore, the said resources were not utilized. It was concluded that there was inadequate and non-utilization of educational technology, which the resulting effect could lead to graduating half-baked students.   Keywords: Adequacy; Educational Technology; Environmental Sciences; Utilization

The study examined the extent of the influence of teacher competencies and instructional strategies utilization for skill acquisition of office technology and management students in polytechnics in South-Western Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study consisted of 152 lecturers and instructors in all the accredited polytechnics in South-Western Nigeria. There was no sampling since the population was manageable. The data for the study was collected through questionnaire which was duly validated by three experts. With the use of Cronbach Alpha Reliability Test (CART), the reliability co-efficient calculated for the study was found to be 0.868 which indicated that the instrument for the study was reliable. Mean and standard deviation were the tools used to analyze the research questions while the hypotheses were tested using independent t-test statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that teaching competencies has positive influence on skill acquisition among OTM students in polytechnics to a great extent. Based on these findings, it was concluded that lecturers are competent in teaching relevant skills to the students in polytechnics. It was therefore, recommended, among others, that the Lecturers should be trained and retrained in order to keep them abreast and competent with the current trends in curriculum and instruction of OTM courses and for effective service delivery.

This study was carried out to determine the modern office technology competencies expected of office technology and management (OTM) graduate workers by supervisors in Delta State. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The respondents consisted of 142 supervisors, made up of 74 heads of department and directors of government establishments, and 68 managers and directors of private establishments in the study area. Descriptive survey research design was used to conduct the study and 28 – items questionnaire were used to collect data from respondents. The instrument was validated by three experts and had a Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.77. Means with standard deviations were used to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The extent of supervisor‟s expectations of information processing competencies did not differ significantly based on the mean ratings of male and female supervisors of OTM graduates in government and private establishments. The findings also revealed that supervisors expect much information processing and communication competencies from the OTM graduate workers. Based on the findings and the implications, it was recommended among others that, curriculum planners, business and OTM education lecturers should ensure that the competencies required for modern office technologies are entrenched and taught in the institutions to prepare the OTM graduates for the world of work.

The study examined the problem of disaster management in Nigeria using Bayelsa State as a case study. Four null hypotheses were raised and tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design and sample sizes of 300 adults were drawn from fifteen (15) affected communities in Bayelsa State. The instrument used for data collection was a disaster management questionnaire and the data were analyzed using chi-square. The finding of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between poor integrated policy and action plan as well as weak institutional capacity and collaboration of disaster management agencies and effectiveness of disaster management in Bayelsa State. The study clearly showed that there is a significant relationship between poor commitment and piece-meal approach by the multi-layered levels of government as well as poor stakeholders’ participation and synergy and effectiveness of disaster management in Bayelsa State. The study recommended among others that long-term monitoring and surveillance mechanism; continuous provision of infrastructure for the host communities by prospecting oil companies; adequate funding by governmental and non-governmental and the development of a national oil spill contingency plan should be adopted and deployed with an eye to guaranteeing sustainable development of the environment in the region.
