Education is a continuous process, and students need to focus on their academic activities uninterruptedly throughout the academic calendar to achieve their targets. The current study aims to analyze ESL students' activities during the summer holidays in Pakistan. The target population for the current study was secondary school ESL students from the private sector. Sixteen participants were selected by using a convenient sampling technique. The participants were interviewed for gathering qualitative data. The data were analyzed by using interpretive and data reduction techniques. The findings indicate that the participants take part in different co-curricular and extra-curricular activities during the summer holidays. Some challenges faced by students are also highlighted. Based on the results, some implications for ESL students are suggested.

The purpose of the study was to establish the effects of teachers’ collegiality on learners’ academic performance in public secondary schools of Baringo North Sub-County, Kenya. The study employed mixed methods approach which utilized questionnaires and interview schedules. It adopted a descriptive research design in carrying out the study. The target population comprised 27 principals and 216 teachers in the 27 public secondary schools of Baringo North Sub County. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 138 teachers while 24 principals were purposively selected. From these populations, two schools were selected to pilot the research tools where a reliable Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.77 was obtained upon computation. Validity of the research instruments was carried out by the University supervisor and necessary revision done. Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data from teachers while interview schedule was used to collect qualitative data from principals. Quantitative data were analysed to obtain means, percentages, and standard deviation. Qualitative data on the other hand were analysed and presented thematically alongside the quantitative data. Inferential statistics were run to test the null hypothesis using Pearson’s Linear Correlation Coefficient. The findings established that teachers’ collegiality influences learners’ KCSE academic performance in public secondary schools of Baringo North Sub-County. However, there was a weak positive correlation between teachers’ collegiality and learners’ academic performance. It also established that though collegiality was not fully practiced there was a strong synergy among teachers to improve learners’ performance. The study recommends that teachers need to be supported by headteachers to collaborate to offer the best services to their learners and create more meaningful work. School headteachers should enhance teamwork among teachers to perform their best and staff members should meet or interact regularly, share ideas and expertise to attain higher performance.

Abstract The present study investigated the relationship between selected school determinants and examination cheating among Kenyan secondary school students. This study used a Sequential Explanatory design in Mixed Methods approach. The target population was 51,900 students in Kisumu County within 153 public secondary schools categorized as 2 National secondary schools, 21 extra county schools, and 130 county and sub-county schools with a total student population of 51,900 in Kisumu County. A simple random sampling technique was used to determine sample size which comprised of 380 respondents since the study was confined within specific ecological boundary which was public secondary schools. Data collection instruments included questionnaires, for general data collection from the respondents and in-depth interview schedules for one to one interview of respondents. The finding of the study shows that there was statistically significant, though weak, positive correlation (r=.211, n=360, p<.05) between school determinants and overall perceived level of exams cheating. The model shows that school determinants accounted for 4.5% (Coefficient R2= .045) of the variation in exams cheating among the students in secondary schools. The Ministry of Education should create ethical academy that would enhance a systems approach to understand misconduct and to empower change in higher education through ethical examinations. This is because the study reported that examination cheating is mainly determined by teachers with low ethical standards.

The purpose of this research is to discover the effect of cyber bullying on students academic achievement and their behavior. The objective of the research was to find out the academic achievement affected by cyberbullying and behavior of students on gender basis at higher secondary school level. Through random sampling technique, 2160 students and 48 teachers from 6 districts were selected. Questionnaires and interviews were used for data analysis using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that cyber bullying significantly affects students academic achievement than their behavior. No significant effect of cyber bullying was found on students academic achievement and their behavior with respect to their gender. The qualitative data obtained from interviews teachers concludes that students are well aware of cyber bullying and cyber bullying equally affects boys and girls of public sector higher secondary schools.

Abstract The study investigated the relationship between permissive parenting styles and examination cheating tendencies among secondary school students in Siaya Sub County, Kenya. Diana Baumrind’s parenting styles theory and Ajzen’s theory of Planned Behaviour provided a theoretical framework for the study while adopting a Correlational study design within a mixed methods approach. The target population was 1,908 form three students, 35 Teacher Counselors and 35 Deputy Principals. A sample size of 190 Form Three students, which was 10% of the population of students, was used after stratified random sampling. In addition, 8 Teacher Counselors and 8 Deputy Principals purposively sampled formed part of the participants. Parenting style and Involvement in Examination Cheating Tendency Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data from form three students while interview schedule was used to collect qualitative data from the Teacher Counselors and Deputy Principals. Validity was ascertained by expert judgment of two university lecturers while reliability of the instrument was ensured using Cronchbar reliability test, where an index of 0.77413 was obtained. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics such as Pearson Correlation, aided by SPSS version 22, while qualitative data was analyzed through thematic framework. The findings revealed that permissive parenting has a strong positive influence on examination cheating tendencies with r=0.641 p<0.05. The study recommended that Kenyan Teachers’ Service Commission should train more teacher counselors in schools to cope with the large number of students who have varied parental backgrounds.

Although students’ learning outcomes are not expected to be equal, the differences should not be accounted for by the differences in school resources. Equality of opportunity in financing schools’ resources is evidenced by the lack of a relationship between the availability of school resources and differences in students’ learning outcomes. Tharaka Nithi County, one of the 47 Counties in Kenya, has consistently had a high difference in students’ learning outcomes in different public day secondary schools. This study sought to establish if differences in students’ learning outcomes in Tharaka Nithi County evidence equality of opportunity. The study employed a convergent parallel mixed-method research design. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select 738 (368 male and 370 female) Form 3 students and 738 (368 male and 370 female) parents of the Form 3 students. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data was thematically analysed. The study findings revealed that there was a strong statistically positive significant relationship, r = 0.674 at p < .01 between school resource characteristics and differences in student’s examination scores. The study also established that differences in public day secondary school resource characteristics accounted for a 6.1% difference in students’ learning outcomes after controlling for all the predictor variables which included student’s household characteristics, student’s parental/guardian characteristics, and student’s conduct characteristics. The study thus recommends that financing of public day secondary school resources should focus on equity given the inequality of opportunity in secondary education attainment.

The finding of the study shows that there was statistically significant positive correlation (r=.592, n=360, p<.05) between Personal determinants and overall perceived level of exams cheating. It is evident from the model that student personal characteristics accounted for 35.1%, as signified by coefficient R2= .351, of the variation in perceived level of examinations cheating among students in secondary schools. it is evident that gender made the highest (Beta=.467) contribution as personal determinant on explaining the dependent variable, when the variance explained by all other variables in the model was controlled for. Student self-esteem had the least effect (Beta=.048) on examinations cheating. However, all the personal determinants had statistically significant influence on examinations cheating among the secondary schools students. The calculated effect size (eta squared=.3514) indicate that there was quite a substantial amount of variance in level of examinations cheating caused by variability in the personal determinants of the students. This suggests that 35.1% of the variance in the perceived exams cheating was accounted for by the personal determinants of the secondary school students, when other variables were controlled. Teacher counselors to assess and identify those students at risk and change their perception on examination cheating due to low self-efficacy.

This research paper investigated the effect of communication on employee retention and its effects on organizational performance in mergers in Kenya. It involved a case study research design. It aimed at providing future merging organization with optimum employee retention strategies that can help in retaining competent, mission-critical, and highly valued employee through the merger process in order to achieve organizational performance after merger. The study's target population included 535 employees of Quick Mart Limited. They included managers, executive staff, supervisors, and subordinate staff of six supermarket branches located in Nairobi. Stratified sampling technique was used in the study. Sample population was 30% of the target population. A total of 161 respondents made up the sample population. Questionnaires were used as the data collection tools. Questionnaires were delivered to the respondent physically at the supermarket branches. The researcher collected qualitative data from the respondents which were analyzed to bring to light the reality of the subject matter. A pilot study was conducted through 10% of the sample population. A total of 16 questionnaires were distributed to a part of the sample population, analyzed, tested for validity and reliability, and then corrected before all the other questionnaires were issued to the sample population. Validity and reliability of this research were realized through eliminating bias and increasing the researcher's trustworthiness using triangulation. Descriptive data analysis was used in this study. Analysis of qualitative data was done through developing and applying codes, identifying themes, patterns, and relationships, and summarizing the data. The findings of the study were clearly presented through narrations, frequency tables, and charts. The researcher provided her conclusions on the study as well as recommendations for future research.

The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of secondary school principals’ leadership roles in development of students’ non-academic talents in Nyandarua County Kenya. Specifically, this study sought to establish the influence of secondary school principals’ leadership roles on students’ participation in sporting activities in Nyandarua County; whether there a relationship between secondary school principals’ leadership role of preparing school calendar of events and development of learners’ non-academic talents in Nyandarua County; and whether there is a relationship between secondary school principals’ leadership role of guiding and counseling and development of learners’ non-academic talents in Nyandarua County. Survey research design was used while quantitative research strategy was used in this study. The target population comprised of 185 principals from 185 secondary schools in Nyandarua County. Questionnaires were used to collect data from a sample of principals. Stratified random sampling technique was used toarrive at the sample for this study. Data was analysed using paired t-tests with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) while results were presented in Tables. The study revealed that development of learners’ non-academic talents was being affected by inadequate training for the principals and lack of recognition of students who excel in non-academic talents. The study recommended that secondary school education policy makers, MOE officials, principals and teachers give development of learners’ non-academic talents as much emphasis as the academic talents development.

Agricultural education is the main component to promote development and production of agriculture. In Pakistan, higher education institutes are offering agricultural education at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. F.Sc. Pre-Agriculture program has also been started in selected universities of agriculture. At the same time, the subject of agriculture has been part of elementary schools for many years. But, the gap still exists for the provision of agricultural education at secondary level. So, the study aims to review the initiatives of agriculture education at secondary level in national educational policies and five-year plans and to explore the possibilities for the promotion of curriculum for agricultural education according to opinions from agricultural education experts. This offers a descriptive study. The study was conducted in two steps. Documentary analysis technique was firstly used. Further, the need of agricultural education curriculum for secondary level was assessed and possibilities of agriculture education were explored. Purposive sampling technique was used to select subject specialists. The data was analyzed with frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The qualitative data was analyzed by themes and analytical approach. This research suggests that agriculture education is highly desirable for introduction at secondary school.

The study investigated the challenges facing the planning of secondary schools education in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja, Nigeria. The research design for the study was a survey method. The target population is comprised of educational planners working in the ministry, department and agency of education that deals with education planning. The sample for this study was eighty people by random sampling technique used by four agencies of the federal government in FCT, Abuja. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection in the study. The reliability of the instrument was determined by testing and retesting. The data were analyzed using frequency counting and simple percentage. The result of the study showed; inadequate planning information, inadequate planning materials, poor educational planner training, political instability. Inadequate funding for planning activities and a shortage of professional educational planners are the challenges facing planning for secondary schools in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria
