Abstract Public apologies are so prevalent in our social lives that they have become a subject of scholarly investigation all over the globe. The present study, which involves coding, frequency counting, and qualitative analysis, examines the strategic aspects of 16 public apologies issued to Filipino apologizees. The results of our analysis indicate that apologizers often choose varied knowledge types and draw upon presuppositions to strategically omit details that can negatively influence their credibility and the reception of their apology. More specifically, apologizers use the audience’s presuppositions to avoid presenting common knowledge of the offense that may incriminate them further; they also omit the mention of future action that may hold them more accountable for their transgressions. Our present analysis bolsters the view that although the sincerity of public apologies cannot be exactly measured, they are still performed as part of image repair and management of interpersonal relationships.

AbstractThe aim of the current study is to analyze the relationships between qualitative and quantitative approaches, or macro and micro relationships, in research about Mathematics Education developed in postgraduate programs in the last ten years. The discussion was based on a search carried out in Capes’ collection in order to better understand articulations between these research spaces. The search carried out in the Bank of theses and dissertations was based on keywords and resulted in five dissertations and two theses produced between 2010 and 2019. Analysis has shown weak articulation between macro and micro research spaces in five of the seven texts, whose quantitative approach was linked to the idea of frequency counting and used to describe the analyzed data. In two, the analyzes showed a strong articulation between macro and micro research approaches, in which a dialogue between what was observed in one and another space is evident, developing a process of hybridization in methodological approaches. Keywords: Research in Mathematics Education, Qualitative-quantitative approach, Macro-micro relationships.ResumenEnel presente texto se analizalas relaciones entre los enfoques cualitativo y cuantitativo o relaciones macro y micro eninvestigaciónenel área de Educación Matemática desarrolladasen programas de posgradoenlos últimos diezaños. Introduction: The global Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has resulted in numerous difficulties and drawbacks in our daily life. Despite causing mortality, it has halted the therapeutic facilities because of the in-person interaction involved in it. Communication difficulties have been aggravated which seeks for immediate attention as it can lead to a lack of improvement in communication delays observed in children with Hearing Impairment (HI). Aim: To highlight the communication challenges faced by children with hearing impairment and consequently investigate the effectiveness and need for telepractice during the Lockdown. It also aims to improve the service delivery models. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing, Chennai from July 2020 to August 2020. A convenience sampling was opted for enrolling the participants in the study. The questionnaire was administered to the parents in two modalities- telephonic survey and electronic format. The data analysis was done by frequency counting and percentage calculation. Results: The findings of the current study suggest that the speech and language performances have worsened for 35% (due to lack of formal stimulation, device malfunction, etc.,), improved for 35% (due to intensive home training, adequate stimulation, etc.,) and no difference has been noted for 30% of children with HI during the lockdown. 23 (57.5%) parents were aware of the Telepractice services, and those unaware were oriented. 12 (40%) respondents opted for other modalities of assistance instead of Telepractice services. Conclusion: The communication challenges faced, calls for seamless intervention during the lockdown. The introduction of Teletherapy proves to be beneficial and hence, the ultimate goal is to integrate telerehabilitation services into clinical facilities. Alternatives of service delivery models should be utilised optimally.

<p>In language structure, discourse is generally used by writers in their text to get readers to understand and comprehend the content of the written text. Metadiscourse is a specific class of language device used by writers to organize their text as well as manage the interactions or relations in some way with the reader of the text. By taking Hyland (2005) and Lakoff’s (1975) interactional metadiscourse model, this paper employs the data analysis driven method called document analysis to analyse the presence of interactional metadiscourse elements in an online entertainment article. Coding and frequency counting method are adopted to find out the sub-categories of respective four elements: Intensifiers, Hedges, Boosters, and Engagement Markers. The elements are interpreted as representing writers’ strategies to define the relationship between themselves, the reader and the topic. Consequently, it is found that the four elements of interactional metadiscourse are all deployed in the article text. The result of this study identifies that engagement markers is the most frequent interactional metadiscourse used by the author. This research may suggest entertainment online article employ the integration of interactional metadiscourse as effectively as other genre of online articles. It may be of value in understanding entertainment online genre for the development of the metadiscourse framework academically.</p><p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0678/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

Here we consider creation of laser systems stabilized by external macroscopic monolithic Fabry – Perot cavities made of single-crystalline silicon operating at cryogenic temperatures. Fundamental thermal noise floor for fractional frequency instability was evaluated with its dependency on cavity’s spacer, mirror’s substrate and coatings material. Silicon cavities with dielectric SiO2 /Ta2 O5 and crystalline GaAs/InGaAs mirror coatings were created, its finesse at room temperatures was investigated. Two ultra-high vacuum optical cryostats were developed. Two ultra-stable laser systems based on cavities with dielectric mirrors were assembled. Comparison scheme via beat signal frequency counting was implemented for the characterization purpose. Different noise sources presenting at assembled systems are considered. Its impact to relative frequency instability of our laser systems is being explored.
