A preliminary survey showed that oyster mushroom farmers in Lempake Samarinda experienced pain in several body segments, especially at their waist. It may be attributable to the working condition that requires non-ergonomic postures such as frequent awkward posture in sitting or standing position. Therefore, this paper aims to assess the working posture in oyster mushroom farmers. Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) method was applied to measure the risk level of farmers' working posture. A total of ten activities were observed from the oyster mushroom cultivations' process in four cultivations in Lempake, Samarinda, Indonesia. Each activity was assessed using the OWAS category based on the position of the back, arms, legs, and load. The result showed that 10% of farmers' working posture was classified in the 4th risk level category, categorized as highly dangerous for the musculoskeletal system, so direct improvement was needed. Furthermore, 10% of working postures were classified in the 3rd risk level category, and 60% of working posture was in the 2nd risk level category, which is categorized as dangerous for the musculoskeletal system and could cause significant tension so that improvement in the future as needed. On the other hand, 20% of working posture was classified in the 1st category which was safe for the musculoskeletal system

Eliminating awkward and stressful working postures through the ergonomics workplace design is important in preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders. However, effective design tools are currently lacking. Different postural analysis tools have been proposed to help evaluate workplaces in the level of postural stresses experienced by the workers, but they are not capable of supporting the proactive ergonomics in design. In an effort to address the problem, this study presents a novel memory-based workplace evaluation (MBWE) model. When given an input scenario expressed in terms of the worker anthropometric characteristics, the task requirement, and the geometric descriptions of the to-be-evaluated workplace design, the model computes the range of feasible working postures for the scenario, determines their postural stress levels, and presents a report on the overall postural risk level of the input scenario. The MBWE model combines the memory-based posture planning (MBPP) model and the Ovako working posture analysis (OWAS) method.

Abstract[REDUCTION OF MUSCULOSCELETAL DISORDERS RISK ON LASER PERFORATOR MACHINES AREA IN CIGARETTE COMPANIES USING QFD AND OWAS] Inside this cigarette production company, there is a laser perforator machine. After the installation of the laser perforator machine 50, problems related to musculoskeletal disorders arise. During the interview, the operator complained about low back pain due to manual handling of the material. After analyzing the OWAS method on two loading and unloading activities, problems were found related to musculoskeletal disorders. It was found that the loading activity was categorized as 3 meaning that posture had a very detrimental effect on the musculoskeletal system. Meanwhile, unloading activities included category 2 which had no significant effect on the musculoskeletal system. In addition, the biomechanical analysis was carried out only for the loading activity against the total compressive force acting on L5 / S1. The compressive force for loading activity is 7,186.22 Newton or more than twice the maximum safe limit of 3,400 Newton. Repairs were made using the QFD method. The solution is to make the moving trolley. The moving trolley is able to reduce the total compressive force on the loading activity to 3,180.52 Newton and also, reduce the level to category 1.Keywords: biomechanics; musculoskeletal disorders; Ovako Working Posture Analysis System; OWAS; Quality Function Deployment; QFD; Trolley

In this 4.0 industrial era, some material handlings are still conducted manually by human. One example is in the warehouse area of CV Cita Nasional, a milk processing factory in Kopeng, Central Java. Workers are repetitively unloading a 25 kg sack of sweet whey powder from truck to warehouse area. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the musculoskeletal disorders risks on that workers manual handling activity. The OVAKO Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) was chosen to be applied in the evaluation steps. For each activity in the unloading process, OWAS score category of 3 (improvements are necessary as soon as possible) were resulted on lifting, 2 (improvements are necessary in the long-term future) on carrying, and 3 on lowering the load. Consequently, a trolley was then designed to minimize the risks. The trolley was designed based on Indonesian anthropometry dimensions. Applying this proposed tool, lifting and lowering activities were then categorized in OWAS score of 2, whilst carrying was resulted in OWAS score of 1 (improvements are not necessary). This applied study was valuable in order to minimize the musculoskeletal disorders risks on such manual material handling activity, not only in the current workplace, but also in similar situation of industries.
