Purpose This paper aims to explore the emergence and nature of impact investment in Australia and how it is shaping the development of the social enterprise sector. Design/methodology/approach Impact investment is an emerging approach to financing social enterprises that aims to achieve blended value by delivering both impact and financial returns. In seeking to deliver blended value, impact investment combines potentially conflicted logics from investment, philanthropy and government spending. This paper utilizes institutional theory as a lens to understand the nature of these competing logics in impact investment. The paper adopts a sequential exploratory mixed methods approach to study the emergence of impact investment in Australia. The mixed methods include 18 qualitative interviews with impact investors in the Australian market and a subsequent online questionnaire on characteristics of impact investment products, activity and performance. Findings The findings provide empirical evidence of the rapid growth in impact investment in Australia. The analysis reveals the nature of institutional complexity in impact investment and highlights the risk that the impact logic may become overshadowed by the investment logic if the difference in rigor around financial performance measurement and impact performance measurement is maintained. The paper discusses the implications of these findings for the development of the Australian social enterprise sector. Originality/value This paper provides empirical evidence on the emergence of impact investment in Australia and contributes to a growing global body of evidence about the nature, size and characteristics of impact investment.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to investigate the role of consumer altruism and other socio-cultural factors in predicting how much attention consumers pay to seafood eco-labels.Design/methodology/approachThe empirical investigation was carried out by administering an online questionnaire to a sample of Italian and Spanish people from December 2019 to April 2020. After carrying out the principal component analysis procedure, the work made use of an ordinal logistic regression.FindingsBoth Italian and Spanish consumers with an altruistic attitude, who feel that food produced in a sustainable way can protect the environment and workers, appear more likely to take an eco-label into account. In addition, in both countries, consumers with a higher level of education and in the older age range are more likely to read eco-labels before buying fish products.Research limitations/implicationsThe first limitation is mainly related to the sampling procedure, which is not probabilistic and does not allow for generalisation of the results. Furthermore, some indicators related to COVID-19 were not included as the planning stage of the research methodology occurred before the pandemic.Practical implicationsA better understanding of the main determinants predicting consumers' attention to seafood eco-labels could be crucial to promote effective marketing strategies aimed at increasing consumer interest and awareness in sustainable seafood and eco-labels.Originality/valueExploring the role of consumers' altruism in how much attention is paid to seafood eco-labels appears to be a new approach that emphasises the role of altruism as a variable capable of bridging the “value-action gap”.

Big data technology (BDT) is being actively adopted by world-leading organizations due to its expected benefits. However, most of the organizations in Thailand are still in the decision or planning stage to adopt BDT. Many challenges exist in encouraging the BDT diffusion in businesses. Thus, this study develops a research model that investigates the determinants of BDT adoption in the Thai context based on the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. Three hundred IT employees in different organizations in Thailand were used as a sample group. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to test the hypotheses. The result indicated that the research model was fitted with the empirical data with the statistics: Normed Chi-Square=1.651, GFI=0.895, AFGI=0.863, NFI=0.930, TLI=0.964, CFI=0.971, SRMR=0.0392, and RMSEA=0.046. The research model could, at 52%, explain decision to adopt BDT. Relative advantage, top management support, competitive pressure, and trading partner pressure show significant positive relation with BDT adoption, while security negatively influences BDT adoption.

This article describes the research dissemination activities of lecturers and researchers in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online survey with 39 questions distributed to respondents via social media from 21 to 31 July 2020. Thirty out of 77 respondents completed the online questionnaire. The results identified variables, such as resources available for dissemination, planning and targeting dissemination activity, evaluating the effects, and capturing research influence. The results revealed that almost all respondents realised the importance of dissemination and wanted to participate. The results show that 80% dissemination activities are conducted through academic journals. Assistance and instruction from specialize divisions or institutions are needed for the dissemination process so that results are maximally employed and so that the role of research is increased in policymaking. Although only 3 % researchers evaluated their research, when asked about the influence of their research, most researchers provided examples of the influence of their research. Researchers understand the importance of dissemination and have been putting it into practice. Researchers require clear guidance from institutions that can assist them in the dissemination process from the planning stage to dissemination.

Abstract. Background: Gatekeeper training is an effective suicide prevention strategy. However, the appropriate targets of online gatekeeping have not yet been clarified. Aim: We examined the association between the outcomes of online gatekeeping using the Internet and the characteristics of consultation service users. Method: An advertisement to encourage the use of e-mail-based psychological consultation services among viewers was placed on web pages that showed the results of searches using suicide-related keywords. All e-mails received between October 2014 and December 2015 were replied to as part of gatekeeping, and the obtained data (responses to an online questionnaire and the content of the received e-mails) were analyzed. Results: A total of 154 consultation service users were analyzed, 35.7% of whom were male. The median age range was 20–29 years. Online gatekeeping was significantly more likely to be successful when such users faced financial/daily life or workplace problems, or revealed their names (including online names). By contrast, the activity was more likely to be unsuccessful when it was impossible to assess the problems faced by consultation service users. Conclusion: It may be possible to increase the success rate of online gatekeeping by targeting individuals facing financial/daily life or workplace problems with marked tendencies for self-disclosure.
