Learning emotional word embeddings for sentiment analysis

Word embeddings have been successfully applied in many natural language processing tasks due to its their effectiveness. However, the state-of-the-art algorithms for learning word representations from large amounts of text documents ignore emotional information, which is a significant research problem that must be addressed. To solve the above problem, we propose an emotional word embedding (EWE) model for sentiment analysis in this paper. This method first applies pre-trained word vectors to represent document features using two different linear weighting methods. Then, the resulting document vectors are input to a classification model and used to train a text sentiment classifier, which is based on a neural network. In this way, the emotional polarity of the text is propagated into the word vectors. The experimental results on three kinds of real-world data sets demonstrate that the proposed EWE model achieves superior performances on text sentiment prediction, text similarity calculation, and word emotional expression tasks compared to other state-of-the-art models.

Distributional representations of words, also known as word vectors, have become crucial for modern natural language processing tasks due to their wide applications. Recently, a growing body of word vector postprocessing algorithm has emerged, aiming to render off-the-shelf word vectors even stronger. In line with these investigations, we introduce a novel word vector postprocessing scheme under a causal inference framework. Concretely, the postprocessing pipeline is realized by Half-Sibling Regression (HSR), which allows us to identify and remove confounding noise contained in word vectors. Compared to previous work, our proposed method has the advantages of interpretability and transparency due to its causal inference grounding. Evaluated on a battery of standard lexical-level evaluation tasks and downstream sentiment analysis tasks, our method reaches state-of-the-art performance.

Collaborative filtering suffers from the problems of data sparsity and cold start, which dramatically degrade recommendation performance. To help resolve these issues, we propose TrustSVD, a trust-based matrix factorization technique. By analyzing the social trust data from four real-world data sets, we conclude that not only the explicit but also the implicit influence of both ratings and trust should be taken into consideration in a recommendation model. Hence, we build on top of a state-of-the-art recommendation algorithm SVD++ which inherently involves the explicit and implicit influence of rated items, by further incorporating both the explicit and implicit influence of trusted users on the prediction of items for an active user. To our knowledge, the work reported is the first to extend SVD++ with social trust information. Experimental results on the four data sets demonstrate that our approach TrustSVD achieves better accuracy than other ten counterparts, and can better handle the concerned issues.

<span id="docs-internal-guid-cb130a3a-7fff-3e11-ae3d-ad2310e265f8"><span>Deep learning (DL) algorithms achieved state-of-the-art performance in computer vision, speech recognition, and natural language processing (NLP). In this paper, we enhance the convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm to classify cancer articles according to cancer hallmarks. The model implements a recent word embedding technique in the embedding layer. This technique uses the concept of distributed phrase representation and multi-word phrases embedding. The proposed model enhances the performance of the existing model used for biomedical text classification. The result of the proposed model overcomes the previous model by achieving an F-score equal to 83.87% using an unsupervised technique that trained on PubMed abstracts called PMC vectors (PMCVec) embedding. Also, we made another experiment on the same dataset using the recurrent neural network (RNN) algorithm with two different word embeddings Google news and PMCVec which achieving F-score equal to 74.9% and 76.26%, respectively.</span></span>

Sentiment analysis becomes one of the most active research hotspots in the field of natural language processing tasks in recent years. However, the inability to fully and effectively use emotional information is a problem in present deep learning models. A single Chinese character has different meanings in different words, and the character embeddings are combined with the word embeddings to extract more precise meaning information. In this paper, a single Chinese character and word are used as input units to train. Based on BLSTM, the attention mechanism based on vocabulary semantics in food field is introduced to realize distance-related sequence semantic feature extraction. CNN is used to realize semantic sentiment classification of sequence semantic features. Therefore, a model based on multi-neural network for sentiment information extraction and analysis is proposed. Experiments show that the model has excellent characteristics in sentiment analysis and obtains high accuracy and F value.

Sentiment analysis is one of the new absorbing parts appeared in natural language processing with the emergence of community sites on the web. Taking advantage of the amount of information now available, research and industry have been seeking ways to automatically analyze the sentiments expressed in texts. The challenge for this task is the human language ambiguity, and also the lack of labeled data. In order to solve this issue, sentiment analysis and deep learning have been merged as deep learning models are effective due to their automatic learning capability. In this paper, we provide a comparative study on IMDB movie review dataset, we compare word embeddings and further deep learning models on sentiment analysis and give broad empirical outcomes for those keen on taking advantage of deep learning for sentiment analysis in real-world settings.

Keyphrase extraction is an important part of natural language processing (NLP) research, although little research is done in the domain of web pages. The World Wide Web contains billions of pages that are potentially interesting for various NLP tasks, yet it remains largely untouched in scientific research. Current research is often only applied to clean corpora such as abstracts and articles from academic journals or sets of scraped texts from a single domain. However, textual data from web pages differ from normal text documents, as it is structured using HTML elements and often consists of many small fragments. These elements are furthermore used in a highly inconsistent manner and are likely to contain noise. We evaluated the keyphrases extracted by several state-of-the-art extraction methods and found that they did not transfer well to web pages. We therefore propose WebEmbedRank, an adaptation of a recently proposed extraction method that can make use of structural information in web pages in a robust manner. We compared this novel method to other baselines and state-of-the-art methods using a manually annotated dataset and found that WebEmbedRank achieved significant improvements over existing extraction methods on web pages.

This work is focused on research in machine learning for coreference resolution. Coreference resolution is a natural language processing task that consists of determining the expressions in a discourse that refer to the same entity. The main contributions of this article are (i) a new approach to coreference resolution based on constraint satisfaction, using a hypergraph to represent the problem and solving it by relaxation labeling; and (ii) research towards improving coreference resolution performance using world knowledge extracted from Wikipedia. The developed approach is able to use an entity-mention classification model with more expressiveness than the pair-based ones, and overcome the weaknesses of previous approaches in the state of the art such as linking contradictions, classifications without context, and lack of information evaluating pairs. Furthermore, the approach allows the incorporation of new information by adding constraints, and research has been done in order to use world knowledge to improve performances. RelaxCor, the implementation of the approach, achieved results at the state-of-the-art level, and participated in international competitions: SemEval-2010 and CoNLL-2011. RelaxCor achieved second place in CoNLL-2011.

With the spurt of online user-generated contents on web, sentiment analysis has become a very active research issue in data mining and natural language processing. As the most important indicator of sentiment, sentiment words which convey positive and negative polarity are quite instrumental for sentiment analysis. However, most of the existing methods for identifying polarity of sentiment words only consider the positive and negative polarity by the Cantor set, and no attention is paid to the fuzziness of the polarity intensity of sentiment words. In order to improve the performance, we propose a fuzzy computing model to identify the polarity of Chinese sentiment words in this paper. There are three major contributions in this paper. Firstly, we propose a method to compute polarity intensity of sentiment morphemes and sentiment words. Secondly, we construct a fuzzy sentiment classifier and propose two different methods to compute the parameter of the fuzzy classifier. Thirdly, we conduct extensive experiments on four sentiment words datasets and three review datasets, and the experimental results indicate that our model performs better than the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract We show that a previously proposed algorithm for the N-best trees problem can be made more efficient by changing how it arranges and explores the search space. Given an integer N and a weighted tree automaton (wta) M over the tropical semiring, the algorithm computes N trees of minimal weight with respect to M. Compared to the original algorithm, the modifications increase the laziness of the evaluation strategy, which makes the new algorithm asymptotically more efficient than its predecessor. The algorithm is implemented in the software Betty, and compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm for extracting the N best runs, implemented in the software toolkit Tiburon. The data sets used in the experiments are wtas resulting from real-world natural language processing tasks, as well as artificially created wtas with varying degrees of nondeterminism. We find that Betty outperforms Tiburon on all tested data sets with respect to running time, while Tiburon seems to be the more memory-efficient choice.

This study proposes a service quality evaluation model framework which integrates automatic data acquisition, intelligent data processing and real-time data analysis with online comment data as data sources by introducing natural language processing technology based on management methods to break the traditional idea of over-reliance on human resources for service quality evaluation. The framework is mainly divided into text data preparation, fine-grained sentiment analysis and fuzzy cloud evaluation models. Data preparation module is responsible for preparing the initial data, and the fine-grained sentiment analysis module is responsible for pre-training a fine-grained sentiment classification model. The fuzzy cloud evaluation module uses the data obtained from the first two modules to evaluate service quality. By applying the model into catering industry, the feasibility of the model is proved and individuality, efficiency, dynamicity and intelligence of the model give it more advantage in the practice of service quality evaluation
