Nowadays, Orchids are one of the most commercial products in flower markets. One of the propagation methods for Cymbidium is using old pseudobulbs that are thrown out after flowering period. This research carried out using standard Cymbidium back-bulbs based on randomized complete block design with 5 treatments in 3 replications. The trial traits were leaf length, root length, leaf number and root number that were studied for 180 days. The results show that minimum length of root was significant under different growth beds. The minimum percent of rooting was observed in pure sand treatment. The maximum length was observed in pure perlite. The shortest of leaves were gained in perlite + sand treatment and the maximum leaf length was observed in pure perlite treatment. The maximum average of root percent was seen in pure perlite treatment.

Lettuce is a type of vegetable that is very popular with the people of Indonesia. It contains healthy nutrients including minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, potassium, iron, folate, carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E. Biostimulants has the ability to stimulate new root formation, improve plant root systems, increase the number of tillers, and increase yield. Biostimulant concentration and site of administration play a role in providing nutrients for the needs of lettuce plants. To obtain the right concentration and place of administration for the growth and yield of lettuce, the experiment was carried out using a 2-factor Randomized Block Design. The first factor was the concentration of biostimulants (K) with 6 levels of concentration including: K0 (without giving biostimulants), K1 (giving biostimulants at a concentration of 1 mL/L of water), K2 (giving of biostimulants at 2 mL/L of water), K3 (giving biostimulants at 3 mL/L of water). K4 (giving biostimulant at 4 mL/L water), K5 (giving biostimulant at 5 mL/L water). The second factor was the site of administration (T), namely: T1 (through the leaves) and T2 (through the soil). The interaction between biostimulant concentration and administration gave a very significant effect on leaf number, crop fresh weight, root length and root number. Biostimulant concentration (K) gave the percentage of plant growth in the variables of plant height (34.29%) and leaf area (47.34%). Place of administration (T) gave percentage of plant growth the variables of leaf area (21.08%) and root wet weight (0.52%). The interaction of biostimulant concentration and administration place (K x T) gave the percentages of plant growth variables of leaf number (15.5%), plant fresh weight (52.33%), root dry weight (2.30%), root length (16.53%), and root number (108.5%). The best treatment in this study was the provision of biostimulant at a concentration of 2 mL/L of water that was given through leaves. A field experiment was conducted on 2019 growing season to evaluate effects of different rates of nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur on growth and yield of garlic under supplemental irrigation. A local variety, Tuma, was used and treated with six rates of NPS (T1 (0 : 0 : 0 kg/ha NPS) (control), T2 (19 : 38 : 7 kg/ha NPS), T3 (28.5 : 57 : 10.5 kg/ha NPS), T4 (47.5 : 76 : 14 kg/ha NPS), T5 (47.5 : 95 : 17.5 kg/ha NPS), and T6 (57 : 114 : 21 kg/ha NPS)). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design and replicated three times. Data were collected for days to 50% emergence, plant height, leaf number, leaf length, bulb weight, and total bulb yield. SAS version 9.2 was used to analyze the data. Means were separated using Fisher’s test at 5% level of significance. All parameters were significantly P < 0.05 affected by the rates of NPS. The early days to 50% emergence (16) was recorded from T6 (57 : 114 : 21 kg/ha NPS), whereas the late days to 50% emergence was recorded from the control treatment (T1). Significantly highest leaf length (41.51 cm), leaf number (13.63), plant height (61.19 cm), bulb weight (39.44 g), and total bulb yield (14.91 ton ha−1) were recorded from T6 (57 : 114 : 21 kg/ha NPS). Therefore, from the result of this study, it can be concluded that the maximum total bulb yield of garlic was obtained with the application of 57 : 114 : 21 kg/ha NPS rate.

Optimal plant density is required to improve plant phenological traits and maximize seed yield in field crops. In this study, we determined the effect of plant density on duration of flowering, post-flowering phase, and seed yield of canola in diverse environments. The field study was conducted at 16 site-years across the major canola growing area of western Canada from 2010 to 2012. The cultivar InVigor® 5440, a glufosinate-resistant hybrid, was grown at five plant densities (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 plants m−2) in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Canola seed yield had a linear relationship with plant density at 8 of the 16 site-years, a quadratic relationship at 4 site-years, and there was no correlation between the two variables in the remaining 4 site-years. At site-years with low to medium productivity, canola seed yield increased by 10.2 to 14.7 kg ha−1 for every additional plant per square metre. Averaged across the 16 diverse environments, canola plants spent an average of 22% of their life cycle flowering and another 27% of the time filling seed post-flowering. Canola seed yield had a negative association with duration of flowering and a positive association with the days post-flowering but was not associated with number of days to maturity. The post-flowering period was 12.7, 14.7, and 12.6 d (or 55, 68, and 58%) longer in high-yield experiments than in low-yield experiments in 2010, 2011, and 2012, respectively. We conclude that optimization of plant density for canola seed yield varies with environment and that a longer post-flowering period is critical for increasing canola yield in western Canada.

ABSTRACT Studies on the effect of transplanting methods and NP – fertilizer rates on leaf length of a female date palm offshoot have been conducted over a period of 25 months (September, 2017 – September 2019). The trial was sited at the Date Palm Research Sub – station/ Federal University Dutse (11o50’N, 09o25’E) in the Sudan Savanna ecological zone of Nigeria.  The treatments consisted of two transplanting methods (Direct: detachment of offshoot from the parent palm and directly transplanting into the field, and Indirect: detachment of offshoot from the parent palm and keeping in the nursery for 3 months before transplanting into the field) and five NP fertilizer rates Control (0g N + 0g P), 80g N + 40g P, 160g N + 80g P, 240g N +120g P and 320g N + 160g P) arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Indirect transplanting of date palm through nursery proved more effective than direct transplanting as it produces statistically longer leaves which are an indication of better chances of crop survival, establishment and yield. Rate 320g N +160g P statistically outperformed other rates in the production of longer leaves throughout the sampling periods. Interaction between transplanting methods and fertilizer rates was highly significant in most of the sampled periods except in June and September, 2019. A combination of indirect transplanting method with rate 320g N +160g P that produced longer leaves is recommended for adoption  in the Sudan Savannah ecological zone of Nigeria.

One of the problems in plaintain development is on the plant breeding that has been conducted convensionally by using seedlings, so that it requires time and wide field, different treatment, and potentially brings pests and deseases. The bean sprout extract is potentially useful in improving the explant growth quality of plaintain by tissue culture. This study aims to know the influence of bean sprout extract concentration as supplement in tissue culture media upon the explant growth of plaintain Unti sayang (Musa paradisiaca L). There are 4 dosages of bean sprout extract as control. The data was analyzed by using ANOVA and was continued by using BNJ test. The result of the experiment shows that the bean sprout extract influences significatly on the plantlets height, leaf number, root length, and root number. The dosage of 100 g/l and 200 g/l bean sprout extracts provide the best result on the experimenting component of plantlet height, leaf number, root length, and root number. Meanwhile, the experimenting component of leaf number and the wet weight of the plantlets provide the best result on MS without any addition of bean sprout extract.

The experiment was conducted in the Dekarhaor of Noagaon village under South Sunamganj Upazila of Sunamganj district during November 2017 to February 2018 to observe the effect of nutrients management on growth and yield of cauliflower hybrids. Two Hybrids namely ShiraGiku (V1) and Rupali (V2), and four combinations of nutrients, viz. (i) recommended rate of N-P-K-S-Zn-B @ 180-80-180-28-4.5-2.1 kg ha-1(F1), (ii) F1 + 25% N-P-K- S-Zn-B of F1 (F2), (iii) F1 – 25% N-P-K-S-Zn-B of F1 (F3), and (iv)  cow dung @ 10 t ha-1 (F4)  was conducted in a factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated thrice. Plant height (cm), numbers of leaves plant-1, leaf length (cm) and leaf breadth (cm), and spreading diameter (cm) were collected at 15 days intervals, while the yield data were recorded at harvest. The parameters were significantly varied due to hybrids and fertilizers packages. Higher gross yield (42.52tha-1) was found in Shira Giku and lower (42.12 t ha-1) from Rupali. Higher curd yield of 25.17 t ha-1 was obtained in Shira Giku than Rupali (9.61 t ha-1). The highest gross yield of 44.45 t ha-1 was obtained when the crop was treated with cowdung @ 10 t ha-1 followed by recommended fertilizer rate (F1). The curd yield of 18.19 t ha-1 was obtained with 25% less than recommended fertilizer rate of application (F3). The highest gross yield of 52.93 t ha-1 was obtained in V1F1 combination and the lowest of 30.10t ha-1in V2 F1. Results revealed that the Hybrid ShiraGiku with recommended dose of fertilizer (180-80-180-28-4.5-2.1 kg ha-1N-P-K-S-Zn-B) performed the best in comparison to other treatment combinations. ABSTRACT Planting sweet potato branches with the appropriate bud number and disposition, below and above ground, can favor vegetative growth and yield that better fit the marketable standards. This study aimed to explore the influence of the number of buds and their distribution ratio, above and below ground level, on the agronomic and marketable components of sweet potato tuberous roots. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatments were arranged in a factorial scheme (3 x 5), with 2, 4, and 8 above-ground buds combined with 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 below-ground buds. Branches from the UZBD 06 accession (Canadense standard) were used. Vegetative, productive, and marketable traits of roots were evaluated. The use of branches with a greater number of buds above and below ground increased shoot dry biomass. Planting seed branches with 8 buds above and 8 buds below ground provided a greater number and production of marketable roots. The use of 10 buried buds increased root number and yield in the 150-450 g marketable classes, which the consumer market values the most.
