Ensuring and improving the quality of teaching and learning, in particular the academics’ potential development, is reflected in strategic European and domestic documents, namely in the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, the Paris Communiqué, the Strategy for Higher Education in Ukraine for 2021-2031 and others. The expediency for academics’ potential development is confirmed by the results of a national survey on the needs for the development of Ukrainian universities in the process of reforming higher education in the context of European integration. The article highlights the problems of academics’ potential development. Based on foreign and domestic experience, the theoretical bases for academics’ potential development, in particular the conceptual and terminological apparatus and structural components of teaching metacompetence are substantiated. The concept «potential of an academic» is defined as a set of intellectual, intangible resources, conditions and opportunities created for the production and accumulation of new knowledge, ideas, technologies, competencies and other productive properties at the university, which combines two levels of connections functioning in unity. The first level of connections are resources that are the result of past and present, and the second – opportunities, i.e. those abilities and connections that are future-oriented, constantly changing, evolving, forming new abilities, characteristics, including elements of the future development. The following components are distinguished in the structure of teaching metacompetence: prognostic; design; objective; innovative; pedagogical partnership; organizational; information and digital; reflexive; linguistic and communicative; inclusive; motivational; health-preserving; emotional-ethical and evaluative-analytical. The development of the above components of teaching metacompetence will help ensure the quality of higher education and increase the competitiveness of the university in the educational services market.

Design/methodology/approach A sample of 175 permanent faculty members from four top universities in Karachi, Pakistan, was interviewed using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data were inserted in SPSS 22 and SmartPLS v 3.2 for performing the analysis. Findings Results of the study showed a significant effect in perceived supervisor support on OID; OID; job satisfaction and EP; and mediating relationship. Conversely, an insignificant effect was observed in workplace incivility. Research limitations/implications It is highly recommended that organizations work on the areas that lead to enhancing their employees’ performance. Also, human resource should create a healthy culture that promotes initiatives, open-door policies and discourages power distance. Lastly, one of the key responsibilities of management is to strengthen their OID because employees are more likely to identify with their supervisors if they invest in the organizations they work for. Practical implications This study will help strengthen the relationship between supervisors and university employees. It will guide the supervisors to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of their subordinates and develop recreational policies and employee engagement activities. In addition, it will help develop a conducive environment and enhance the quality of education in the university and the society. Originality/value Understanding the determinants of OID on EP in the educational context is very important as it enhances the quality of EP and the overall quality of education of the institution.

Higher education is one of the key factors in the effort to improve the lives and well-being of a nation. The experience of developed countries in Asia showed that the quality of higher education correlated significantly with the increased competence of human resources as a whole which eventually forms a high competence in the global competition. Globalization proactively answered by the governments in various parts of the world through international cooperation in the form of teaching, research, and dedication to the university in the form of the internationalization program. Through descriptive qualitative method enriched by quantitative techniques with intrinsic case study design (intrinsic case study), this research found that the success of internationalization is driven by capacity building supported by horizontal and hands on leadership. Therefore, the leadership of a university is not only an academic but it must be a manager who is able to read the signs of change.

Using egocentric network data from the University of California Social Networks Study (1,136 respondents; 11,536 alters), this study examines how difficult ties—an unexplored form of social negativity—are associated with well-being. Findings show that well-being is affected by the quality of the relationship rather than its presence in the network. Having a nondifficult partner is associated with lower loneliness compared to having no partner, but having no partner and having a difficult partner are related to similar levels of loneliness. Likewise, having difficult adult children and having no adult children are associated with reporting greater psychological distress than having nondifficult adult children. Consistent with the stress process model, the negative association of a difficult partner with well-being is buffered when that partner is otherwise supportive and when the other ties in the network are supportive. However, that association is amplified when the other ties are also difficult.

Violent religious extremism is seen as one of the mega-problems of the 21st century. This article based on a key lecture at the conference on Violence in a democratic South Africa at the University of Pretoria and the David de Villiers memorial lecture at the University of Stellenbosch, both held during August 2010 critically discussed the interaction between religion and violence in our present-day, globalised world. Three different propositions on the relationship between religion and violence were scrutinised. In countering the proposition that religion, or more specifically monotheism, necessarily leads to violence, it was argued that violence is not an inherent, but rather an acquired or even an ascribed quality of religion. The second proposition that religion leads to non-violence was affirmed to the extent that religions do provide a strong impulse to overcome violence. However, they also tend to accept violence as an inevitable part of reality and even justify the use of violence on religious grounds. The third proposition was regarded as the most convincing, for it argues that the link between religion and violence is contingent. Some situations do seem to make the use of violence inevitable; however, religions should refrain from justifying the use of violence and maintain a preferential option for nonviolence.

Several researchers dealt with the balanced performance card, notably Kaplan and Norton, as they tried to use this card to measure the strategic performance of economic units across its four dimensions. This card is one of the most important approaches to measuring and evaluating the performance of economic units. The different units of their activities identify strengths and reinforce them, and deficiencies and treatment, and hence emerged the importance of adoption of the card in the economic units in general and educational in particular, to measure and evaluate performance by adopting the card in the field of education In addition, there are additional benefits to the previous benefits, which may include the continuous development of the curricula, tools and methods used by the faculties at the university to achieve its objectives in raising the level of education at this stage and measuring its impact on the quality level using the hexagonal diffraction and developing its objectives to meet the evolving needs of society, By improving quality by reducing defects and obstacles. The aim of the research is to clarify the concept of the four-dimensional performance card concept and the concept of educational quality, in addition to the concept of hexagonal diffraction, and the relationship between the balanced performance card on educational quality and measuring its effect using hexagonal diffraction.
