Chronicles of Affirmation of the Image of Ukrainians in the North American Multicultural Media Space (1930 – beginning of 1931)

<p class="44444"><em>The methodological basis of the conducted research is based on the use of methods of monitoring and analysis of documents; generalization by the method of qualitative and quantitative study of primary and secondary information. Selection for the analysis of archival periodicals was made on the chronological principle of 1930 – early 1931. At the first stage, a qualitative analysis was carried out, which further deepened the logical studies of the content of radio programs, tracking the transformation processes in radio broadcasting caused by the evolution of ideas about financing such initiatives, access to local ones, local genres. design, etc.</em></p><p><em>The basic prerequisites for the creation of the first periodic Ukrainian clock in the multicultural radio space of the USA are outlined. The public discussion in the industry, the state of the development of the technical support of the radio signal reception, the conditions of its access and the quality of listening are analyzed. The content of such initiatives, their content, timing, musical and genre design are described. The importance of community unity and the development of a common constructive position on addressing important public issues were emphasized, in particular with regard to the organizational and financial provision of national music radio hours. It was found that despite the complexity of the organizational nature of the community of Ukrainians were able to present to the world, and most importantly to realize the need to design national presentation media sites that would position them favorably among other peoples.</em></p><p><em>The retrospective of the formation of foreign Ukrainian media space in the context of the radio production process of the early twentieth century was first documented.</em></p><p><em>The wide potential of using the results of the research is not limited to scientific discourse, but is an important documentary evidence of the high organization and development of the Ukrainian community in the world and the ramifications of its media structure.</em></p><p><strong><em>Key words:</em></strong><em> archival periodicals, multicultural media space, Ukrainian language broadcasting.</em></p>

The spionid polychaete Boccardia proboscidea Hartman, 1940 is a tube-dweller and shell/stone-borer widely occurring in temperate waters across the world and considered invasive in many areas. It was originally described from California, USA, and later reported from Pacific Canada, the Asian Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa, and northern Europe. The Bayesian inference analysis of sequence data of three gene fragments (836 bp in total) of the mitochondrial 16S rDNA, nuclear 28S rDNA, and Histone 3 has shown that individuals from the Pacific coasts of Canada and the USA, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Mediterranean France were genetically very similar (maximal average p-distance value, 0.49%, was between 16S rDNA sequences). We consider these individuals to be conspecific and report the earliest records of B. proboscidea from the UK and a possible first Mediterranean record in the Gulf of Lion. The high 16S haplotype diversity of B. proboscidea detected in the north-eastern Pacific suggests a native distribution for the species in the northern Pacific and subsequent introductions through human activities to other parts of the world. The histories of these introductions are reviewed and the hypotheses about times and places of introductions are updated.

This article examines the role played by Ernest Jones in saving psychoanalysts from Germany and Austria during the 1930s, and, in particular, in the case of Drs Otto and Salomea Isakower from Vienna. Archives from the Library of Congress and the British Psychoanalytical Society are used to document how Jones navigated the considerable difficulties presented in both Europe and London as well as by colleagues and was able to help the Isakowers emigrate to Liverpool where they worked and began the ‘North of England’ training group with others and emigrated to the USA in 1940. As President of the International Psychoanalytical Association and of the British Psychoanalytical Society, Jones had responsibilities with psychoanalyst refugees, which he performed with care, commitment and political competence. Although Jones did not succeed in saving psychoanalysis in Europe, he played a crucial role in saving psychoanalysts. He helped to spread the world-wide standing and influence of psychoanalysis.

Europe takes part in a global competition for scientists, capital and knowledge – major factors of importance for societal growth. In the USA, regions such as Bay Area, Massachusetts and North Carolina, in particular, have developed to a critical mass far beyond the potentials of individual regions in Europe or other parts of the world. The foundation of the ScanBalt BioRegion as a pan-European life science/biotechnology collaboration has the perspective of closing this gap. The greater Nordic-Baltic region – including the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries, North Germany, Poland and the north-western part of Russia – constitutes a meta-region with a great pool of knowledge, capital and resources. In recognition of these potentials, the Nordic-Baltic region has marked itself as one of the world's most proactive in terms of building cross-sector and pan-regional networks and cooperation at local, regional and meta-regional levels.As a consequence private companies, public institutions and governments are aiming to create an internationally competitive and prosperous meta-region comprising Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden, north-western part of Russia and the northern part of Germany. Thereby the political visions, for years expressed by, for example, the Baltic Development Forum, are becoming a reality in the world of biotechnology and life sciences – the frontier of a knowledge-based society. The emerging meta-region is named the ScanBalt BioRegion.

Abstract A debatable problem of the display of induced seismicity and its causes during the construction of reservoirs (Reservoir Induced Seismicity - RIS) is considered on the basis of an analysis of various publications. This paper describes the history of the evolution of ideas about the possibility of the activation of seismic events in the zones of influence of artificial reservoirs and examples of such activation in aseismic areas, which is a medium geological response to technogenic interference (e.g. Shivajisagar reservoir in West India, Mead reservoir in the USA, Danjiangkou Reservoir in central China, Nurek reservoir in Central Asia, Chirkey reservoir in Dagestan and other). The problem and reasons of induced seismicity (RIS) are debatable. however, published examples demonstrate the existence of this process. For reservoirs with different amounts of water RIS is an inseparable component of the natural and man-made geological process. The world statistics knows cases of seismicity intensification in areas near small man-made reservoirs with low pressure levels (Belecha in former Yugoslavia, Marathon in Greece, Grandval in France). In addition, it was found that the number of local earthquakes increased after creating a cascade of three small water reservoirs (Studen Kladenets, Kardzhali and Ivaylovgrad) in the basin of The Arda river (Bulgaria). The RIS examples listed above allow us to think that it is not only the creation of large reservoirs that change (in some cases, intensifies) the local seismicity in the surrounding area. No reservoir, no matter what size it is, is insured from such geological process. At the present time there are more than 100 places in the world with displays of induced seismicity due to reservoir construction. In India there are up to eight reservoirs with these problems. Induced seismicity associated with the influence of man-made water reservoirs, causes a specific geo-ecological risks to the surrounding areas.

Abstract Background The World Health Organization (WHO) declared severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) a pandemic on March 11, 2020. This report takes a closer look at the cases, fatalities, and recoveries in different regions of the world with details regarding the geographic scale of SARS-CoV-2 spread, risks, and the subsequent impact on the countries affected. Also, this report discusses some effective measures that were carried out by some countries that helped them to mitigate the pandemic and flatten the curve of COVID-19 spread as early as possible. Methods Our research was conducted via an electronic literature review on PubMed, Google Scholar, and MedLine Plus. Data were then collected from peer-reviewed articles that included applicable keywords and published between January 1, 2020, and June 9, 2020 Results The rapid spread of infection has impacted over 200 countries and territories to date. As of June 9, 2020, there were 7,039,918 confirmed cases and 404,396 deaths globally. The USA is the North American country with the highest number of confirmed COVID 19 cases with 1,993,560. In South America, total confirmed cases in Brazil are 691,758. The most affected country in the African region is South Africa with 50,879. In Europe, the Russian Federation top with 485,253 confirmed cases. China with 84,638 is still the Western Pacific country with the most confirmed COVID 19 cases. India had 266,598 total confirmed cases and Australia reported 7,265 confirmed cases. Fatalities recorded similar patterns regionally except in Europe where the UK recorded the highest number of fatalities with 40,597 deaths and Iran had the highest number of fatalities with 5,957 cases in Asia. The goal of the practice “slowing the spread” is to prevent hospital systems from being strained beyond their capacity, thus resulting in less mortality. Countries yet to see the peak would benefit substantially by implementing aggressive social distancing, self-isolation, closure of schools and other institutions, encouraging working from home, and/or placing hard limits on the size of crowds at events. Conclusion As the number of cases increases, an immediate need to “flatten the curve” is essential to avoid catastrophic overwhelming of hospital systems across the affected countries. Today, the “data journalism” in the global media space has emerged as an independent direction with its own goals, objectives, and specifics. Specialized data departments in large media are increasingly appearing, and reporters working with “Big Data” are called data journalists now. There are studies in the scientific community on the data journalism in the USA, Russia, and European countries, but only a small number of such materials are devoted to data projects in Latin America. Meanwhile the data journalism in that part of the world has been actively developing since 2012, and such publications comply with all standards of high-quality analytical material. The article is based on an analysis of the data journalism of the three countries, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, because their projects regularly receive prestigious awards and are recognized by the international community. In particular issues of the thematic diversity of the data materials, work methodology, format features of publications are considered.

The author argues that in recent years the world natural gas markets demonstrated vital new trends that primarily relate to the general slump in demand for the natural gas, as well as to accelerated build-up of shale gas production in the North American countries – the USA and Canada. The author proposes a non-partisan analysis of the factors and prospects of the “shale gas revolution”. The general conclusion is that the widely advertised forecasts of the upcoming dislodgement of the traditional gas, including LNG, from the markets of importing nations have no serious grounds.

Due to its geographical location, Norway was, is and will continue to be an important component of the security system of NATO countries. Its direct border with the Soviet Union (now Russia) over a distance of over 170 km has influenced the fact that this region has been perceived as pivotal. After the end of World War II, when Europe and the world split into two political and military factions, a dynamic process of conventional and nuclear armaments began, and thus the world was heading toward an armed conflict and an extermination of civilization. Today we know that the Cold War did not turn into a hot war. This region, the North European region, was of particular importance. It offered the possibility for the Soviet nuclear fleet to leave for the Atlantic Ocean and carry out a nuclear attack on the USA and Canada. In order to prevent such a situation, the North Atlantic Theatre of War was created which included without limitation the Norwegian naval forces. The aim of this article is to present that issue
