Abstract The ISO 9000 series of standards are among the best-known standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation ISO. They provide guidance and guidelines for companies and organisations that want their products and services to satisfy customer requirements and their quality to be continuously improved. However, the need for recertification of the Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001 is increasingly being discussed by managers. The questions asked are: is it necessary to have such a certificate in order to maintain high product quality and customer satisfaction? What is the balance of benefits and losses for maintaining a certificate of this standard? The authors of the paper will try to answer these questions based on the experience of a medium-sized metal manufacturing company.

ISO standards of 9000 family assist in designing and implementing quality management system in an organization. QMS increases the efficiency and effectiveness of organization's ability to meet customer, statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to the product and the organizations own requirements. It also helps in systematic planning, organizing, monitoring and verifying of the process thus reducing needless capital, increasing productivity, ensuring quality in process and product. In this thesis a quality management system manual and the necessary formats are prepared for a company which is not ISO certified, taking them a step closer to certification process. The manual is prepared as per the requirement of ISO 9001.2008 standard and the company’s scope. ISO 9001.2008 and ISO 9000.2005 standards were referred for the preparation of the manual, where ISO 9000 states the fundamentals and vocabulary of QMS and ISO 9001 states the requirements in quality management system. ISO 9001 is the only certifying standard in ISO 9000 family. These standard guides the organization in implementing, maintaining, monitoring, improving QMS to meet the customer, statutory and regulatory requirements. Via visiting the organization, understanding the organizations scope of work, process and procedures adopted in the firm, collecting the required documents and data and integrating these process, procedures and formats a Quality manual is prepared. By implementing the manual, adopting the procedures and documenting the process and progress the performance of the organization can be improved. If interested the organization can go ahead with certification process after fully implementing ISO process.

The article presents proposals for the development of the quality management system of a machine-building enterprise based on a risk-oriented process approach. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the risk management subsystem formation as the basis of continuous development of the quality management system based on ISO 9000 standards are considered. Methodological recommendations of the development of existing enterprise methods for managing the processes of the quality management system are proposed. A methodology of risk management of quality management system processes has been developed. The practical application of the proposals formulated in the paper is shown by the example of an enterprise engaged in the production of electric traction machines for railway rolling stock. At the present stage of development of machine-building production, insufficient attention is paid to the issue of methodological support for risk management of quality management system processes developed on the basis of ISO 9000 series standards, despite the fact that this direction is very relevant and practically in demand in all industries. It is revealed that the process monitoring system, which is based on monitoring process indicators, information about internal audits, self-assessment of the quality management system, allows you to present a real picture of the state of processes and develop management decisions to improve the effectiveness and improvement of processes and the quality management system. And all the information obtained during process monitoring can be used as input data for managing risks in processes.
