Creativity has long been on the agenda of those innovative and inspirational teachers who have devoted themselves to doing their jobs more effectively. 21st century teachers are required to fit their skills, abilities and thinking skills into the latest improvements and changes in effective learning pedagogies and look for ways not only to make necessary adaptations in their curriculum, but also go beyond to stimulate learners to develop certain thinking skills to learn. This study mainly puts emphasis on innovative teaching strategies and some out-of-the-box ideas about the way teachers should convert their ideas to be effective in class to shed a new light on effective teaching. Thematic learning using 21st Century skills is learning with higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). It is a series of stages of activities organized in such a way that students can master the competencies that must be achieved in thematic learning by actively participating. This research is educational research with a design research model that develops a product. The product developed in this study is a thematic lesson plan for grade IV elementary school. Thematic learning implementation plan based on 21st Century skills models with an overall validation yield of 92% (very valid). The thematic learning media is very practical with an average of 92.5%. The effectiveness of the use of thematic lesson plans can be known through the learning activities of students while learning by using this learning tool is very effective, and students' learning outcomes are above the school minimum completeness criteria. These observations illustrate that the use of thematic lesson plans based on 21st Century skills models have been effectively implemented.

The acquisition of 21st century skills through teaching and learning has become one of the greatest challenges facing education delivery in recent times. In the light of that, this chapter examines 21st century skills and how students could acquire these skills to become well integrated in the current knowledge and global economy. Further, this chapter examines the need to prepare students to acquire 21st century skills and competencies, so that they become relevant and well equipped for the current job market. Digital literacy and its importance to students are also explored as part of the relevant 21st century skills. This could be done through comprehensive restructuring of many schools' curriculum and modification of the way teachers teach and how students are assessed in educational institutions.

ABSTRACTThis multi-phased study investigates the learning outcomes of courses taught in the K-14 classroom. Specifically, the methods and practices teachers use to develop and encourage 21st Century Skills including critical thinking skills and technological fluency in all subject areas, STEM and non-STEM related, are of great interest. Currently, these skills are in high demand in fields which develop advanced materials and are the backbone of the National Academiesdeveloped Frameworks for K-12 Science Education. Phase I participants in this study included high school and college educators while Phase II of the study will involve K-14 students. In this study, educators were asked to rate their teaching self-efficacy in two primary areas: critical thinking skills and technological fluency. This included questions related to components in their current curriculum as well as methods of assessment [e.g., rubrics]. The instrument created to measure self-efficacy was based on a modified ‘Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument' (STEBI). All participants were from Connecticut. Results indicate that both STEM and non-STEM related subject areas offer an equally rich array of opportunities to effectively teach critical thinking and technological fluency at a variety of educational levels. The impact of Professional Development on teacher self-efficacy was of particular importance, especially in K-12 education.

In the digital age, the interaction between the ICT and the educational system has led to fundamental transformations and changes to all elements of the learning process. Intelligent devices have enabled the learner to access knowledge resources at any time and anywhere. Learning management systems have produced a smart E-learning environment which enables active learning, Communication, and interaction among users. Quality Assurance in Higher Education has become urgent and aspires to qualify graduates who have mastered diverse and varied skills appropriate with the digital age. The academic programs requisite to rely upon the evaluation of learning outcomes, not only cognitive but also skills, thus the modification of the current assessment system is demanded. This study identified the 21st century skills and performance of learners in five categories: Critical Thinking Skills, Problem Solving Skills, Digital Communication & Sharing Skills, the Productivity of Creative Innovation Skills, and Self Regulated Learning & Career Skills. While Higher education is required to provide evidence of student learning skills, the study suggests E-Portfolios, which are considered as a tool that allows the student to: organize, save, document, publish, and digitally share his work as an accurate assessment tool. The study discusses the foundations, principles, objectives, and analyzes the application of E-Portfolio as a learning and assessment tool of 21st century skills in higher education. We, Kaetsu Ariake, regard 21st century skills as one of the most important factors for our students to acquire. Especially, critical thinking (CT) and its skills are indispensable. Thus, we offer special classes for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students to become better thinkers. Teachers from a variety of subjects teach the classes, which are held in our school library with the help of its librarian. The librarian teaches the students library skills, supports the teachers, and edits the Research Notebooks. The Research Notebooks are the key to managing the three-year course. We refer to the six-step learning program and Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy in order to develop the Research Notebooks. Using the Notebooks, the students can develop good insights and skills to do research. By making use of the library, getting the help of the librarian, and using the Research Notebooks, we promote 21st century skills throughout our school.

Technology is advancing every day and there is no stopping to it. It plays a vital role in our daily lives which includes in education field. The use of technology is massively implemented in classrooms as teaching strategies. Old teaching strategies such as visual aids are often improvised to match with the students’ interest. Teachers would usually find it difficult to teach students who are digital natives and demand a much more familiar and casual learning environment. It is also significant for teachers to equip the students with all 21st century skills in an ESL classroom. The students would prefer if the teachers could teach using any technological tools.  Infographics is one of the visual aids that integrates the use of technology. Online application such as Easel.ly can be used to strengthen teaching and learning sessions. Hence, this paper reviewed on the effectiveness of using infographics in developing 21st century skills in an ESL context.

In empowering students’ 21st century skills, the implementation of scientific approach-based models (SAbM) is recommended. This quasi-experimental research was conducted in senior high school in which the students were comprised of different ethnics. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of SAbM on empowering students' critical thinking skills (CTS). The SAbM implemented were Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Guided Inquiry (GI), and PBL+GI combination. Furthermore, the students’ ethnics included were Javanese, Bugis, Kutai, Banjar, and Toraja. The purposive sampling was used to determine the classes employed (i.e. 11th classes from two senior high schools in Samarinda). The instrument used to collect CTS data was questions test. The data were analyzed using two-way ANCOVA. The results showed that there was no significant interaction between ethnic and learning models on the students' CTS (p = 0.219), as also shown by the main effect of ethnic types (p = 0.583). In contrast, there was a significant effect of SAbM on students’ CTS (p = 0.0005) Through this study, SAbM need to be implemented continuously as it can optimize the empowerment of students’ 21st Century skills.

The research “teaching and learning process by integrating information and communication technology for Islamic private schools in the three southernmost provinces of Thailand in the 21st Century" aimed to determine the integration of information technology for the design and development of innovative forms of teaching in line with the current situation of Islamic private schools in the three southern border provinces. The research scope focused on the development process for teachers to develop innovative forms of teaching to enable learners with lifelong learning skills. Teachers also were able to apply ICT in designing and developing innovative models for teaching to meet the 21st century skills. The participation and action research methods were used by allowing teachers to play a researcher’s role in conducting joint research with the team.  Project-based learning instruction method with ICT integrated was used. The results of this research is the innovative model of teaching that integrated information technology to provide students with the 21st century skills which is the 4P-2E model.  The impacts of this research to learners are: (1) Learners are creative, they enjoy the project-based learning and the integration of ICT in learning. Given the fact that the concept of “classroom management” and its connotations as well as its relation to effective teaching, despite decades of world-wide research, remain rather undefined, or, at least, not fully described, different educational systems and teachers around the world try hard to develop a wide variety of classroom management theories and strategies, since they obviously consider it as being significantly related to effective teaching. Effective classroom management reflects teachers’ multifaceted high-ranked ability to, inter alia, establish and maintain within their classrooms acceptable rules of productive teacher-to-student and student-to-student communication, to motivate students to work cooperatively, and to fruitfully implement best teaching strategies according to their students’ individualized learning needs. Moreover, it presupposes teachers’ ability to create a learning context where students’ disruptive attitudes are prevented or addressed and misbehavior is reduced while positive expected learning outcomes are achieved, and the students’ cognitive, social and affective development is continuously facilitated and sustained. Finally, it is based on teachers’ ability to set clearly defined and agreed—between teacher and students—codes of communication, to produce measurable learning outcomes that fulfill students’ and their parents’ expectations, and to take full advantage of their students’ features, classroom features, and local space features in order to develop their own professional features. It is, thus, evident why successful classroom management is considered by teachers, parents, students, and researchers to be tightly linked to teachers’ professional competence and effectiveness. Moreover, teachers who successfully implement classroom management are reported to create in time a regulatory framework for communication within the classroom through the establishment and adoption of rules and consequences. They also tend to safeguard the quality of communication with their students, and to develop their professional authority profile. They succeed in that by strengthening their willingness to meet students’ learning requirements, needs, and interests, by using effectively verbal and non-verbal communication to encourage learning and, above all, by controlling and managing their institutionalized power. International research over the past years has shown that the implementation of learner-centered innovative teaching strategies on the basis of flexible differentiated teaching focused on students’ personal values, abilities and potential, the establishment of student-to-student shared responsibility and of a student-to-teacher commitment contract, the development of a dynamic interplay between students during group work, the respect for diversity, and the reinforcing of students’ self-regulation all highly contribute to the creation of a fruitful in-class learning environment. In such an environment students feel secure and accepted, teachers manage the classroom successfully and are considered to be competent and effective professionals.
