The study examined the influence of the personal characteristics of extension agents in Edo State Agricultural Development Programme (ESADP) on their job performance. A well - structured questionnaire was used to collect information from fifty-three respondents, spread across the ADP blocks in the three agricultural zones in the study area. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square. The findings of the study showed that majority of the respondents were male (66.0%) and married (94.3%). Majority (83%) had OND/NCE certificate and were relatively young (average age = 40 years) and experienced as extension agents (average = 14 years). The job performance of majority of the extension workers was rated high (58.5%). Also, Chi- square result showed that there was no significant association between the personal characteristics of the extension agents and their job performance. The study therefore suggests the need to examine organizational factors as crucial incentives needed to enhance the job performance of the workers in the study area

The study was carried out to examine the effect of training and visit system on professionalization of extension agents in Osun State Agricultural Development Programme of Nigeria. Seventy-five data were collected by interviewing extension agents constituted the sample size and were interviewed through the aid of using a well-structured questionnaire and information obtained were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages and person correlation coefficient was used for testing the research hypothesis. The findings revealed that 80% of the respondents were between the age group of 30 -50 years, spent between 10 – 30 years in service (84%) and are married (98.7%). A large proportion (56%) of the respondents holds higher national diploma in general agriculture, exhibited favorable attitude towards the farmers (93.3%), specials in general agriculture (34.7%) and required training in one or more areas of agriculture (69.3%). Analysis performed shows that all the characteristics had positive relationship with effect of training and visit on professionalization of extension agents except years of service, which had a negative relationship though all characters were statistically insignificant. Hence, the more the numbers of years spent on the job the more experience you would be. Which indicated that personal characteristics of the respondent influenced the professionalization of the extension agents through training and visit system? The global crisis in Climate Change (CC) requires Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Information and Technologies (CSAITs) to address it. Mobile Phone Applications (MPAs) among other ICTs could be veritable tools for enhancing job performance of field staff by facilitating their generation and dissemination of relevant information to adapt, cope with and mitigate the effects of CC. This study examined access and dissemination of CSAITs using MPAs by field staff in Edo State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP). Specifically, it described the socio-economic characteristics, access and dissemination of CSA-related information, use of MPAs for CSAITs and the constraints to usage of MPAs among field workers. Data were collected from the 120 field staff comprising 78 Field Extension Workers and 42 Enumerators of Edo State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), Nigeria. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Results show that 55.8% of respondents were males and 40.8% were between 41-50 years of age, 54.2% were HND/B.Sc holders and 50.8% had between 11-20years working experience. The CSAITs mostly accessed (≥50%) using MPAs include irrigation and “fadama” farming, weather forecasts and zero or minimal tillage and non-burning while CSAITs mostly disseminated include manure application, mulching, and timely harvesting. The MPAs used for CSA-related tasks include voice calls ( =2.78), Short Messaging Service (SMS) ( =2.53), calculators ( =2.46), camera ( =2.46) and emails ( =2.43). Constraints to using MPAs for CSAITs-related tasks included inadequate knowledge and skills in CSAITs ( =3.72) and in the use of many MPAs and

Stress occurs when the demands placed on employees in an organization outweigh their technical, physical, educational and professional capabilities to meet such demands. If this goes unchecked, it can affect the health and job performance of employees and the overall objective of organziation may become unattainable. This study was conducted to assess the effects of labour shortage on stress level of employees in OYSADEP, Oyo State. Out of the four zones in Oyo State, two zones namelyOgbomosho and Ibadan/Ibarapa zones were randomly selected. The total population of employees in two zones was 74 which constituted the sample for the study. Data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage and means while inferential statistics such as Chi-square and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used to analyze the data. The result indicated that more than half (51.4%) of the employees were male, 85.1% were married with a mean age of 41 years. Most of the employees (91.9%) had tertiary education with 5 years and above years of experience. The results indicated the problem associated with labour shortage. Rewards of employees were low as compared to the risk of the job they were doing ( =3.35), the limited number of employees were being stressed due to labour shortage ( =3.01), and inadequate strength of staff was affecting the success of the organization ( =2.85). The result also reveals the stress level of employees. Stress effect on staff was affecting their work ( =2.80) and the nature of their job was such that they desired to quit if they had alternative ( =2.70). Chi-square analysis revealed that only working experience (χ2=11.740, df=4, P less than 0.05) had a significant relationship with employees stress level. There was also a significant correlation between employees perception of labour shortage and their stress level. The study concluded that due to the problem of labour shortage in OYSADEP the stress associated with the job was high as compared to the pay. It is therefore recommended that management of OYSADEP should employ more staff to reduce the stress on the existing employees of the organization.

ICT integration in agriculture is changing the tempo of the sector globally. Successful application of ICT for agricultural development however depends on the agricultural workers’ knowledge of the information-driven technologies applications. Assessment of the Nigerian agricultural researchers and extension agents’ knowledge of the ICT applications showed that 92.9% of the researchers and 51.6% of the extension agents had knowledge of the ICT applications. The chi-square analytical test showed that the agricultural researchers’ knowledge of ICT applications was significantly related to their level of education (x2 = 52.33, p = 0.017), work experience (x2 = 26.37, p = 0.04), IT training (x2= 26.19, p = 0.036) at p < 0.05 level. The extension agents’ knowledge of ICT utilities was significantly related to their education (x2 = 47.39, p = 0.047) at p < 0.05 levels. T-test of difference between the researchers and extension agents’ knowledge of ICT applications was found significant. It was concluded that the respondents’ knowledge of the ICT applications was influenced by their level of education; and was recommended that the agricultural researchers and extension agents should train anytime the organisational ICT devices are scaled up for new applications in agriculture.

: Post harvest losses resulting from inadequate processing have been one of the problems affecting farmers’ income. This study was carried out to examine the contribution of cassava processing techniques on the livelihood of agroforestry farmers in Edo state. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 125 respondents which served as sample size for the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that 90.4% were aware of the cassava processing techniques such as the peeling, slicing, grating, sieving and frying machines. Furthermore, majority of the farmers agreed that the processing techniques were effectively in increasing productivity and 45.6% of the farmers had an increase in their annual income of up to N200,000. All the farmers attested that their income increased thus resulting in an increase in their livelihood. Chi-square results (p > 0.05) revealed that there was no significant relationship between the personal characteristics of the farmers and the constraints faced in the utilization ofthe technique. Results of correlation showed that there was a significant relationship between the processing techniques and the constraints faced in the utilization of techniques. Thus, it was recommended thatthe technologies be made simple for effective utilization in order to increase productivity Keywords: Agroforestry, Processing, Livelihood, Techniques, Utilization

This study was designed to investigate the perception of climate change among arable crop farmers in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state, Nigeria using a well-structured questionnaire for data acquisition. Descriptive and inferential (chi-square) statistics were used to analyze the data.. The study revealed that majority of the respondents (50.8%) were between the ages of 40-49years and majority of them (85.8%) are married with household size of 7-10 persons. The study further revealed that (33.3%) of the respondents had no formal education while, (42.5%) of the respondents had a farming experience of 16years and above. However, it also shows that majority of the respondents are aware of the effect and causes of climate change. Significant association exists between marital status (x2=68.426, P=0.000), family size (X2=25.777, P=0.012) and perceived effect of climate change. The study therefore recommended that the government and extension agents should enlighten the women farmers more about climate change and should also help in making them adapt excellently to climate change.
