This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on MSMEs and how Government intervention affects their capacity to survive. Through a survey of 368 respondents, namely debtors/beneficiaries, aid distributors, policymakers, and supervisors, this case study finds that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in business delays. The finding means that the government assistance schemes are the key to business continuity for MSMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help from the Government, the business actors in the sample of this study can maintain their business. Although some MSMEs reduced the number of workers employed, some MSMEs still survived, even increased their workers and business turnover. While the research identifies key success factors of Government programs, there are also some challenges in their implementation. This study recommends that the Government continues giving assistance programs for MSMEs. In addition, the Government should relax requirements while focusing on new beneficiaries. Building an integrated MSME database is also necessary, and in the future, the Government must integrate the assistance program with financial literacy and innovation programs. The policy implication of this research is that the future programs of government poverty alleviation need to focus on MSMEs.

The quantitative findings outlined the importance of several factors that were perceived to have a significant influence on the success of Bahraini Startups, where the majority of respondents agreed/strongly that two of the examined factors are considered critical to succeed in startups in the Kingdom of Bahrain. These factors are experience and knowledge, which proved to have an active role to maintain the success of startups. However, the startups’ founders disagreed on the impact of fund-raising and partnerships which are considered to have no major effect on the success of startups. Recommendations of this research include two segments; for founders is to seek more opportunities to enhance their knowledge and capitalize on their experiences, and for government entities to provide and improve training offerings, and facilitate founders’ communication and assist them in reaching out to the investors and the supporting entities, which will provide ease for new startup entry to the market, and establishment of a clear vision with framework prior to embarking the new venture.

Electronic government has proven a watershed in the domain of public administration despite being difficult to pin down precisely. Indeed, the government-to-government (G2G) arena is one of the least studied aspects of this newly established field of knowledge. This chapter aims to present a heuristic frame to implement government-to-government endeavors effectively. The frame presented in this article was largely drawn from an actual government-to-government case study successfully implemented in Brazil. From the analysis of this explanatory case study involving the Brazilian Central Bank (BCB) and the Brazilian Justice Department (BJD), some key success factors were singled out as well as the major hurdles to be overcome and causes thereof. These findings led the researcher to propose a heuristic frame not only to explain the conclusions drawn from the case study presented, but also to help researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to deploy government-to-government projects adequately.

Electronic government has proven a watershed in the domain of public administration, despite being difficult to pin down precisely. Indeed, the government-to-government (G2G) arena is one of the least studied aspects of this newly established field of knowledge, despite its importance in fostering cooperation and collaboration between government agencies, mainly with respect to the management of their knowledge, in order to increase the effectiveness of public administration. The main scope of this article is to present some key success factors for building G2G enterprises successfully. It also aims to show how public agencies themselves can benefit when they are electronically linked to others, thereby innovating and streamlining their working processes, in order to achieve greater agility and efficacy at reduced cost. In order to pinpoint the key G2G success factors, a single explanatory and successful case study approach was used, namely one involving the Brazilian Central Bank (BCB) and the Brazilian Justice Department (BJD). The BacenJud system developed by the Brazilian Central Bank was analyzed in a more detailed manner. This case—considered a success—shows how this G2G project made it possible for both the Brazilian Central Bank and the Brazilian Justice Department to achieve greater agility and effectiveness regarding the processing of legal demands made by the Brazilian Justice Department, thereby handing down its sentences at reduced cost. Furthermore, this study examined the factors that had a clear nationwide impact on the success of this endeavor in the realm of the Justice Department. Therefore, this article intends to answer the following research question: From the case study analyzed, what are the key success factors in the implementation of government-to-government processes between public agencies in Brazil?

Several choices are available to family firms when intergenerational succession is not an option. One alternative is to explore merger and acquisition (M&A) opportunities. This paper addresses two research questions: (a) What are the key differences between typical M&As and those involving a family firm? and (b) What are the key success factors for the post-acquisition integration process, and what is the impact on this process when the acquired company is a family firm? Results from an acquired family firm case study suggest that these M&A processes differ along structure, motivation, and culture dimensions. The case study also suggests post-acquisition considerations for M&As involving family firms.

Abstract During 2020, weddings were profoundly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. During periods of lockdown few weddings could take place, and even afterwards restrictions on how they could be celebrated remained. To investigate the impact of such restrictions, we carried out a survey of those whose plans to marry in England and Wales had been affected by Covid-19. The 1,449 responses we received illustrated that the ease and speed with which couples had been able to marry, and sometimes whether they had been able to marry at all, had depended not merely on the national restrictions in place but on their chosen route into marriage. This highlights the complexity and antiquity of marriage law and reinforces the need for reform. The restrictions on weddings taking place also revealed the extent to which couples valued getting married as opposed to having a wedding. Understanding both the social and the legal dimension of weddings is important in informing recommendations as to how the law should be changed in the future, not merely to deal with similar crises but also to ensure that the general law is fit for purpose in the twenty-first century.
