Lifestyle, environment, genetics and usage of health care are the classical health determinants. Each of these factors influences personal health to certain degree. Lifestyle has the biggest impact (50–52%), followed by environment (18–20%), genes (15–20%) and finally usage of health care (10–15%). Acknowledgement of negative health behaviours as key reason for diseases of modern civilization formed the basis for many preventive actions. Implementation of preventive health programs is aimed at shaping healthy lifestyle and healthy behaviours in society. The objective of this article is to present links between social marketing and possibilities to influence healthy behaviours of kids and youth. Necessity for holistic approach to health and examples of healthy behaviours of kids and young people in Poland are discussed.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease, nCOV-19 pandemic is exceptional and unprecedented in many aspects and it has shaken the health care system at global level. The several studies reported on nCOV-19 suggest that, immunization is the only way to fight against it. For this, Ayurveda is the most imperative as it recommends a healthy lifestyle instead of the mere prescription of medicines. Methodology: Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy is purposed with developing education, research and propagation of indigenous alternative medicine systems in India (Ministry of AYUSH). The Ministry is headed by a Minister of State, which is currently held by Shripad Yesso Naik and has recommended some measures to be followed in building strength by following the holistic approach of Ayurveda toward Swasthavritta. Thus, the present paper focuses on analysing the public perception towards Ayurveda measures using the most popular statistical techniques as ANOVA. Results: The analysis of data indicated that, the people are mesmerised by the concept of Ayurveda and are following all the possible precautions to save themselves from the effect of COVID-19. Older generation has a firm believe on the vedic science as compared to the younger generation. Conclusion: The classic of Ayurveda ‘Charaka Samhita’ describes the epidemic management and it defines immunity as the most essential to prevent diseases and arrest its progress. The foundation of Ayurveda is to building strength of mind and body to manage with different stressors, including infections. The Ayurveda concept of immunity (Bala or strength) is categorized as natural (Sahaja), chronobiologic (Kalaja), and acquired (Yuktikrut). Henceforth, we can achieve the aim of Ayurveda i.e. the Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam and Aturasya Vikar Prashamanam, against nCOV-19 pandemic.

The article presents the results of a study of healthy lifestyle promotion in Russian provincial media. The topicality of the research is explained by the new content of the media space determined by the necessity to reflect the many-sidedness and acuteness of the problem of public and personal health. Besides, the importance of a healthy lifestyle and its values is predetermined by the national aims of increasing life expectancy, as well as by particular objectives of the demographic policy. The study object is the practices of Russian provincial print media in the field of presenting health care components as compared to the results of surveying the journalists employed by the media. The research covers 2,044 newspaper articles on healthy lifestyle published in nine geographically remote Russian provinces in the period 2016/01–2019/12. A content analysis by 4 key aspects (tasks, content, structure, and personalization) has helped to study the purpose of the publications and areas of public life that they focus on, their topic, news hook, health care components, practices of providing expert views, people and their activities, author(s)' attitude and argumentation methods. Basing on the results of the research, the authors make inferences that include both positive and, mostly, critical assessments, and give special and general recommendations.

Since its inception in 1979, the Nicaraguan National Health System has dramatically improved health care in Nicaragua through the provision of universal coverage, emphasis on preventive community-based primary care, and community participation in health activities. Of major importance in the development of the health system has been the decentralization of the administration, planning, and implementation of health programs. The war in Nicaragua has had a major impact on the development of the health system. Nicaraguan health personnel and facilities have been the objects of attack by the contras and scarce resources have been diverted from the development of social programs to military activities. A large refugee population has been created which further strains existing resources. Community-based preventive health programs have been adversely affected, particularly in rural areas where military activity is the most intense. Because of the war, efforts to optimize regionalization of the health system have been retarded. Economic pressures both within Nicaragua resulting from the war and within the entire Latin American area have further hampered efforts for development. Continued major improvements in health care in Nicaragua will depend on a settlement of the present military conflict which is draining resources in all sectors of development, including health.

There are significant gender disparities in health outcomes and health care utilization in the United States, with men experiencing more of these disparities. It is critical to ascertain the interplay between societal conditions, health behaviors, and access to services and the impact of these factors on health outcomes and utilization of health care. The present study is part of a larger initiative titled, The Men’s Health Study: Addressing Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors, which has two purposes—to annually assess the motivators of and barriers to health-promoting behaviors among culturally diverse men attending the Men’s Health Forum (MHF) and to use this information to develop an intervention program that facilitates healthy lifestyle behaviors among men. The MHF is a community-driven initiative for medically underserved men in Tampa, Florida that offers free health screenings and wellness exhibitors in order to empower men to lead a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of this article is to identify barriers to engaging in health-smart behaviors (e.g., cancer screenings, physical activity) among culturally diverse men who participated in the MHF and to detect any demographic differences among these barriers. A total of 254 men participated in the study. Findings identify that age was the only demographic variable that had a statistically significant association with any of the cancer-screening barriers. Some cancer-screening barriers appear to exist among all demographic groups since no statistical demographic differences were discovered. Income and education were significantly associated with barriers to engaging in health-smart behaviors. This may give researchers, health educators, and providers information needed to customize interventions to promote health and preventive health care among culturally diverse men.

Health literacy affects caregivers’ ability to engage in preventive health care behaviors for themselves and their children. Studies suggest that health literacy among low-income families needs improvement, and this possibly contributes to disparities in preventive health care rates. Additionally, parents and caregivers may not be able to provide or seek preventive health care for their children because of lack of knowledge and skills to do so effectively. This study designed and piloted an intervention that delivered to parents of young children (1) health literacy information in an experiential manner and (2) practical skills to engage their families in healthy lifestyle choices. Specifically, the intervention focused on diet/nutrition, physical activity, sleep hygiene, parenting, and mental wellness. Postintervention improvements were noted for factual knowledge for diet/nutrition, physical activity, and sleep, beliefs about diet/nutrition, and the relationship between mental health and stress. Additionally, postintervention improvements were noted for general knowledge and beliefs about sleep, knowledge about the relationship between sleep and health, knowledge about common childhood sleep problems, and parents’ bedtime interactions with children. The efficacy of the intervention should be evaluated on a larger, more diverse sample in the future with considerations for multiple health behavior change in the evaluation.

The use of preventive health services is a long-term health investment due to its potential to help individuals to take care of their health. This study aimed to explore the availability and performance of health services in primary health care (PHC) in the domain of general practice (GP), pediatrics, and gynecology, as well as to analyze the influence of sociodemographic and health determinants on the utilization of preventive health services. This descriptive study used data from the National Health Insurance Fund and the Statistical Office of the Serbia for 2015 and included 149 independent PHC units. The relationship between the utilization of preventive services and sociodemographic and health characteristics of the population was analyzed by bivariate and multivariate linear regression models. The higher health expenditure per capita and noncommunicable diseases mortality rate were, the more preventive health services were provided by a chosen GP. Children with a higher completion rate of primary school (p = 0.024), higher health expenditure (p = 0.017), and higher life expectancy at birth (p = 0.041) had more preventive health services. The fertility rate was positively associated with the number of preventive health services per 1000 women (p = 0.033). Our findings should serve as a starting point for where efforts should be made to achieve better health outcomes.
