Advertisement on products or services can be found in many forms; video, banners, pamphlets, etc. However, these advertisements only function as a one-way communication as consumers are only presented with the product information and the seller. Further action on purchasing the product is absent or is to be made separately. Such an approach may not guarantee a sale for the seller as the customer may only retrieve the information of the product but purchase it elsewhere. Hence, this study demonstrates the use of QR code technology not only in marketing but also in e-commerce. The technology is realized in "On the GoShop" mobile application that has two types of users: seller and buyer. Sellers are people who wanted to promote their product and/or services while buyers are the ones who have a desire to purchase. An evaluation study on the acceptance of the mobile application was then performed on a total of 50 respondents and it is learned that the proposed e-commerce application is well accepted. Ninety percent of the respondents agree with the usefulness of the application and are looking forward to using the application in daily routines. The use of QR code technology not only facilitates consumer in purchasing their desired product but also contribute to cost-effective marketing.

In this work, a mobile application is developed to assist patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or Asthma that will reduce the dependency on hospital and clinic based tests and enable users to better manage their disease through increased self-involvement. Due to the pervasiveness of smartphones, it is proposed to make use of their built-in sensors and ever increasing computational capabilities to provide patients with a mobile-based spirometer capable of diagnosing COPD or asthma in a reliable and cost effective manner. Data collected using an experimental setup consisting of an airflow source, an anemometer, and a smartphone is used to develop a mathematical model that relates exhalation frequency to air flow rate. This model allows for the computation of two key parameters known as forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) that are used in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. The developed platform has been validated using data collected from 25 subjects with various conditions. Results show that an excellent match is achieved between the FVC and FEV1 values computed using a clinical spirometer and those returned by the model embedded in the mobile application.

AbstractUbiquitous computing environments advocate creating applications by plugging together various resources (mobile devices, displays, augmented everyday objects, and so on) and Web Services to support the user’s everyday activities and needs. This approach is referred to as application composition, and such applications are called composite. Due to the dynamic nature of ubiquitous environments, application composition has to be supported at runtime, so that the applications are able to adapt to the situation within the environment and other contexts. Application composition is usually performed by autonomous context-aware mechanisms that provide limited or no control for users. Still, users need to be aware of their environments and be able to control and configure applications when they are composed and executed. Towards this goal we present in this article a context-aware application composition system based on the iCompose interface for composing and controlling applications at runtime. Users compose applications by simply touching the resources in the environment with their mobile devices, while the iCompose interface provides feedback and assists users by suggesting them possible further actions. The interface relies on a rule-based reasoner and utilizes various context sources to support users dynamically, according to the situation in which they compose applications. We present a complete implementation of the system and report the results of a user evaluation study conducted with 21 participants. This study assesses the issues of control, usability, feasibility and user acceptance of the iCompose interface for context-aware application composition and the prototype as a whole.

Abstract Background Cost-effectiveness of interventions was a criterion decided to guide priority setting in the latest revision of Ethiopia’s essential health services package (EHSP) in 2019. However, conducting an economic evaluation study for a broad set of health interventions simultaneously is challenging in terms of cost, timeliness, input data demanded, and analytic competency. Therefore, this study aimed to synthesize and contextualize cost-effectiveness evidence for the Ethiopian EHSP interventions from the literature. Methods The evidence synthesis was conducted in five key steps: search, screen, evaluate, extract, and contextualize. We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE research databases for peer-reviewed published articles to identify average cost-effectiveness ratios (ACERs). Only studies reporting cost per disability-adjusted life year (DALY), quality-adjusted life year (QALY), or life years gained (LYG) were included. All the articles were evaluated using the Drummond checklist for quality, and those with a score of at least 7 out of 10 were included. Information on cost, effectiveness, and ACER was extracted. All the ACERs were converted into 2019 US dollars using appropriate exchange rates and the GDP deflator. Results In this study, we synthesized ACERs for 382 interventions from seven major program areas, ranging from US$3 per DALY averted (for the provision of hepatitis B vaccination at birth) to US$242,880 per DALY averted (for late-stage liver cancer treatment). Overall, 56% of the interventions have an ACER of less than US$1000 per DALY, and 80% of the interventions have an ACER of less than US$10,000 per DALY. Conclusion We conclude that it is possible to identify relevant economic evaluations using evidence from the literature, even if transferability remains a challenge. The present study identified several cost-effective candidate interventions that could, if scaled up, substantially reduce Ethiopia’s disease burden.

Abstract Nowadays, the technology of QR codes is one of the promising areas of development of the IT industry, which has found application in various industries, business areas, medicine, etc. In the field of education, QR codes are used to increase the interactivity of classes, provide additional multimedia content, conduct surveys and other control activities. This work presents the key features of QR codes, their architecture and main components. The use of QR codes in automating the process of accounting for students’ attendance is considered. A web application has been developed for teachers, the interface of which allows them to generate QR codes for academic disciplines. A mobile application with an integrated QR-code scanner was developed for students. All attendance data is recorded in the teacher’s electronic attendance register. A conceptual data model of the system is presented, as well as the main algorithms of its operation related to the generation and scanning of QR codes. The practice of using the developed system demonstrates the effectiveness of monitoring attendance data by promptly entering it into an electronic journal.

This paper presents a system that is used in one of the most important fields in our daily life, shopping and entertainment. The system exploits a mobile application, Quick Response (QR) code technique and network system. The QR tag is attached to each item in the market, while the mobile application can be installed in the Smart Phone. The smart phone is used to scan the attached QR tag and send the result to a network system and the network system will process the received data. A brief information will be brought from the local server database. However, if the customer is interested in more details, the network system brings these details from the main server and applies them on the smart phone screen. When the customer decides to buy the item, s/he can add it to the shopping list, then the system updates the bill, sends it back to the customer and to the cashier at the same time. The items will be prepared at the checkout point after payment. This system was designed, implemented, and tested practically so that the performance of that system is achieved for two main points: quick attainment of information and network congestion avoidance.
