Purpose. Assessment of the effectiveness of using the method of radio-wave geointoscopy of the inter-well space for three-dimensional mapping of the zone of the leaching solution actual propagation in the process of uranium mining by the method of underground leaching. Methods. Experimental-industrial studies of the leaching process are conducted at technological block 68 of the Semizbay deposit (Kazakhstan). In experimental studies, special equipment is used for conducting radio-wave geointoscopy. Inter-well measurements are performed using the RVGI-06 equipment. The observations are conducted in a fan pattern within the filter section. The step between adjacent points along the wellbore is 1 m. At different stages of mining the technological block, maps of geoelectric resistivity have been compiled, with the help of which a comparative analysis is performed. Findings. A tendency to an increase in the area of acidic solutions propagation over time has been revealed by comparing the fragments of RVGI geoelectric map at different stages of mining the block. The influence of a heterogeneous geological structure on the uniformity of the leaching solutions propagation has been proved. It has been determined that the resolving power of the radio-wave geointoscopy method is sufficient to detect changes in geoelectric conditions at small monitoring cycles in time. The spatial-temporal change in the front of the leaching solutions propagation makes it possible to determine the prevailing directions of solutions propagation and to assess the filtration characteristics of rocks. Originality. The patterns have been determined of the leaching solutions propagation over time from the beginning of block acidification to active leaching. The first attempts have been made to use the geophysical well logging method in the practice of uranium mining by In-Situ Leaching (ISL) method. Practical implications. Monitoring studies by radio-wave geointoscopy method at the stage of passive acidification can be re-commended for further experimental and scientific testing at technological blocks of the Semizbay deposit for a quantitative assessment of the filtration characteristics of rocks and the dynamics of the acidification process development, as well as for the development of well-grounded recommendations on the optimal scheme for mining the blocks in specific geotechnical conditions.

Biomedical applications of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) have increased in number quite rapidly over the last several years. Studies have been made of cells, whole mount tissue, sectioned tissue, particles, human chromosomes, microorganisms, dental enamel and skeletal material. Many of the advantages of using this instrument for such investigations come from its ability to produce images that are high in information content. Information about the chemical make-up of the specimen, its electrical properties and its three dimensional architecture all may be represented in such images. Since the biological system is distinctive in its chemistry and often spatially scaled to the resolving power of the SEM, these images are particularly useful in biomedical research.In any form of microscopy there are two parameters that together determine the usefulness of the image. One parameter is the size of the volume being studied or resolving power of the instrument and the other is the amount of information about this volume that is displayed in the image. Both parameters are important in describing the performance of a microscope. The light microscope image, for example, is rich in information content (chemical, spatial, living specimen, etc.) but is very limited in resolving power.

Vision is the science that informs us about the biological and evolutionary algorithms that our eyes, opticnerves and brains have chosen over time to see. This article is an attempt to solve the problem of colour to grey conversion, by borrowing ideas from vision science. We introduce an algorithm that measures contrast along the opponent colour directions and use the results to combine a three dimensional colour space into a grey. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm competes with the state of art algorithms.

Abstract Through Silicon Via (TSV) is the most promising technology for vertical interconnection in novel three-dimensional chip architectures. Reliability and quality assessment necessary for process development and manufacturing require appropriate non-destructive testing techniques to detect cracks and delamination defects with sufficient penetration and imaging capabilities. The current paper presents the application of two acoustically based methods operating in the GHz-frequency band for the assessment of the integrity of TSV structures.

This article studies the process of relaxation of the pressure in a tank with the damaged area of the wall after pressure-testing. The authors use different methods for the diagnosis of the technical condition of objects of petroleum products storage. Pressure testing is one of nondestructive methods. The rate of pressure decrease is characteristic of the system tightness. This article studies the cases of ground and underground location of the tank. Pressure testing involves excess pressure inside of a tank and observing its decrease. Over time, one can assess the integrity of the system. This has required creating mathematical models to account the filtration of the liquid depending on the location of the tank. The results include the analytical solution of the task and the formulas for describing the dependence of the relaxation time of pressure in the tank from the liquid and soil parameters, geometry of the tank, and the damaged portion of the wall. The two- and three-dimensional cases of liquids filtration for the case of underground location of the tank were considered. The results of some numerical calculations of the dependence of reduction time and the time of half-life pressure from the area of the damaged portion of the wall were shown. The obtained solutions allow assessing the extent of the damaged area by the pressure testing with known values of tank, liquid, and soil.

Zebrafish spontaneously use distance and directional relationships among three-dimensional extended surfaces to reorient within a rectangular arena. However, they fail to take advantage of either an array of freestanding corners or an array of unequal-length surfaces to search for a no-longer-present goal under a spontaneous cued memory procedure, being unable to use the information supplied by corners and length without some kind of rewarded training. The present study aimed to tease apart the geometric components characterizing a rectangular enclosure under a procedure recruiting the reference memory, thus training zebrafish in fragmented layouts that provided differences in surface distance, corners, and length. Results showed that fish, besides the distance, easily learned to use both corners and length if subjected to a rewarded exit task over time, suggesting that they can represent all the geometrically informative parts of a rectangular arena when consistently exposed to them. Altogether, these findings highlight crucially important issues apropos the employment of different behavioral protocols (spontaneous choice versus training over time) to assess spatial abilities of zebrafish, further paving the way to deepen the role of visual and nonvisual encodings of isolated geometric components in relation to macrostructural boundaries.

AbstractPeriodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease leading to progressive connective tissue degradation and loss of the tooth-supporting bone. Clinical and experimental studies suggest that hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is involved in the dysregulated fibroblast–epithelial cell interactions in periodontitis. The aim of this study was to explore effects of HGF to impact fibroblast-induced collagen degradation. A patient-derived experimental cell culture model of periodontitis was applied. Primary human epithelial cells and fibroblasts isolated from periodontitis-affected gingiva were co-cultured in a three-dimensional collagen gel. The effects of HGF neutralizing antibody on collagen gel degradation were tested and transcriptome analyses were performed. HGF neutralizing antibody attenuated collagen degradation and elicited expression changes of genes related to extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell adhesion, indicating that HGF signaling inhibition leads to extensive impact on cell–cell and cell–ECM interactions. Our study highlights a potential role of HGF in periodontitis. Antagonizing HGF signaling by a neutralizing antibody may represent a novel approach for periodontitis treatment.

AbstractNative advertising has recently become a prominent buzzword for advertisers and publishers alike. It describes advertising formats which closely adapt their form and style to the editorial environment they appear in, intending to hide the commercial character of these ads. In two experimental studies, we test how advertising disclosures in native ads on news websites affect recipients’ attitudes towards a promoted brand in a short and long-term perspective. In addition, we explore persuasion through certain content features (i. e., message sidedness and use of exemplars) and how they affect disclosure effects. Results show that disclosures increase perceived persuasive intent but do not necessarily decrease brand attitudes. However, disclosure effects do not persist over time and remain unaffected by content features.
