Field experiments were conducted at Multi Location Testing (MLT) sites of Chandina and Debidwer of Cumilla district, and Kasba of Brahmanbaria district under on-farm research division (OFRD), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Cumilla during 2016-18 to find out the appropriate dose of fertilizer for the maximum productivity of hybrid cauliflower varieties. Five integrated nutrient management packages  such as T1= Recommended fertilizer dose for high yield goal (HYG), viz. 40-20-38-7-0-0 NPKSZnB Kg ha-1, T2= T1 + 1.5 t ha-1 vermicompost, T3 = T1 + 5 t ha-1 cowdung, T4= STB  (107-61-107-30-3.0-1.0 NPKSZnB Kg ha-1 and T5= Farmers practices  (114-74-123.5-0-0 NPKSZnB Kg ha-1) were used in the trial. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block (RCB) design with six dispersed replications. The result revealed that the highest curd breadth (21.68 cm), individual curd weight (1.86 Kg) and curd yield (44.14 t ha-1) was obtained from T2 treatment followed by T3 and T4 treatments. The lowest yield was found from farmers practice. Similarly the highest gross return (Tk. 626669.00 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk. 493869.00 ha-1) were also found from T2 treatment and the lowest (Tk. 457734.00 ha-1 and 438066.00 ha-1) respectively from  farmer's practice T5. A field experiment was conducted at MLT site, Chandina under on-farm research division (OFRD), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Cumilla during 2015-16 and 2016-17 to study an economically profitable vegetable based cropping pattern in Cumilla region for increasing cropping intensity and productivity as well as to meet the vegetable demand for farm family as well as the country. The studied vegetable based cropping patterns were CP1: Red amaranth-Potato-Coriander-Indian Spinach-Ladies finger-Cauliflower and CP2: Red amaranth-Potato-Indian spinach-Ladies finger-Coriander-Red amaranth, respectively. The results showed that six vegetable crops could be grown successfully one after another in a sequence in the farmer’s field instead of two or three crops based pattern in a piece of land. From the research results it was revealed that the highest Potato equivalent yield (PEY) 226.66 t ha-1 was obtained from cropping pattern CP1: Red amaranth-Potato-Coriander-Indian Spinach-Ladies finger-Cauliflower where the lower PEY (171.38 t ha-1) in CP2: Red amaranth-Potato-Indian spinach-Ladies finger-Coriander-Red amaranth cropping pattern. From the economic analysis, it was observed that the highest gross return Tk. 22,66,600 ha-1 was obtained from cropping pattern CP1: Red amaranth-Potato-Coriander-Indian Spinach-Ladies finger-Cauliflower which leads to the highest gross margin (Tk. 18,94,542 ha-1) as well as the highest BCR (6.09) from that cropping pattern compared to CP2. An experiment was conducted to evaluate 4 cultivars   of Gladiolus BARI Gladiolus 1, BARI Gladiolus 3, BARI Gladiolus 4 and BARI Gladiolus 5at experimental farm, On Farm Research Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Alamnagar, Rangpur during 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.  The aim of study was to evaluate the adaptability and performance of cultivar under the climatic conditions of Tista Mendar Floodplain Agro Ecological Zone in Bangladesh. Among the varieties BARI Gladiolus-5 performed excellent in terms of spike production in 2015-2016 and BARI Gladiolus-4 performed excellent in terms of spike production in 2016-2017. Among the varieties BARI Gladiolus-4performed excellent in terms of market value in both the years. Maximum spike length was observed in cultivars BARI Gladiolus-4 and BARI Gladiolus-5 remain attractive for longer time. Keeping in view the vegetative and reproductive characteristic cultivars BARI Gladiolus-4 was performed better and recommended for general cultivation. In 2015-2016 the highest gross return (BDT. 1383800 ha-1) as well as gross margin (BDT. 1005144 ha-1) was recorded in BARI Gladiolus-4. In 2016-2017 the highest gross return (BDT. 1318553ha-1) as well as gross margin (BDT. 927153 ha-1) was recorded in BARI Gladiolus-5.The lowest gross return as well as gross margin was obtained from yield BARI Gladiolus-1 in both the yearsTherefore, it could berecommended for commercial cultivation of gladiolusBARI gladiolus 4 and BARI gladiolus 5varietiesare best for Tista Meander Floodplain Agro-Ecological Zone in Bangladesh.Progressive Agriculture 28 (3): 198-203, 2017

An experiment was conducted at the farmers’ field of Phulpur MLT site of On- Farm Research Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Mymensingh during 2015-16 and 2016-17 to find out a suitable intercrop combination of garden pea with maize for higher productivity and profitability. Five treatments, viz. T1= Maize (100%) + one row garden pea (33%) in between maize lines, T2= Maize (100%) + two row garden pea (66%) in between maize lines, T3= Maize (100%) + garden pea broadcast (100%) in between maize lines, T4= Sole maize and T5= Sole garden pea were tested following RCB design with six dispersed replications. Maize var. BARI Hybrid Maize-9 and garden pea var. BARI Motorshuti-3 were used in monoculture as well as in intercropping situations. Intercropping of garden pea improved the yield components of maize and offered some additional yield. The highest maize grain yield (8.62 t ha-1) and maize equivalent yield (20.22 t ha-1 yr-1) were recorded with maize (100 %) + two rows of garden pea (66 %) in between maize lines (T2). The values of all the competition functions were greater than unity and maize (100 %)+ two rows of garden pea (66 %) in between maize lines (T2) showed higher values of land equivalent ratio (1.56), gross return (Tk. 311920 ha-1), gross margin (Tk. 175697 ha-1) and BCR (2.29) as compared to other treatments.Bangladesh J. A field experiment was conducted at multi-location testing (MLT) site, Barura under On-Farm Research Division (OFRD), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Cumilla during 2014-16 to determine the productivity and profitability of cropping patterns, viz. Boro (var. BRRI dhan28)-T.Aus (var. BRRI dhan48)- T. Aman (var. BRRI dhan49)-Fallow (existing cropping pattern) and Boro (var. BRRI dhan28)-T. Aus (var. BRRI dhan48)-T. Aman (var. Binadhan-11)-Mustard (var. BARI Sarisha-14) as  improved cropping pattern. The results showed that improved cropping pattern provided higher amount of grain and by-product yield. The highest mean REY (18.08 t ha-1), PE (54.61 kg ha-1 day-1), LUE (90.68 %) and SYI (77.12%) was obtained from improved cropping pattern Boro-T.Aus-T. Aman-Mustard and the lowest (14.30 t ha-1 in 2014-15 and 13.98 t ha-1 in 2015-16) from farmers existing cropping pattern. The highest gross return (Tk. 274800 ha-1 in 2014-15 and Tk. 276600 ha-1 in 2015-16), gross margin (Tk. 113950 ha-1 in 2014-15 and Tk. 106750 ha-1 in 2015-16) and BCR (1.70 in 2014-15 and 1.66 in 2015-16) were obtained from improved four crops based cropping pattern (Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman-Mustard). Two years results showed that four crops could be grown one after another in a sequence in the farmers field of Cumilla region for achieving higher system productivity and economic return. Haor is one of the uncertain areas for crop production and productivity in Bangladesh. Traditionally, single cropping practice in a short cropping season is the key obstacle to increase crop productivity. A study was carried out at Multi Location Testing site (MLT), Nikly under the On-Farm Research Division (OFRD), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Kishoreganj at haor area during the two consecutive Rabi seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17 to evaluate the performance of garlic with chilli intercropping system, its productivity and economic viability. Four treatments were consisted viz., sole chilli, one row garlic in between chilli rows, double rows garlic in between chilli rows and garlic with broadcasting chilli. The highest chilli equivalent yield (28 t ha-1) was obtained from one row garlic in between chilli rows and the minimum chilli equivalent yield was (15 t ha-1) obtained in sole chilli. These intercropping practices yield increased 25-89% over the sole chilli. The highest gross return (Tk.559400 ha-1), gross margin (Tk. 428240 ha-1) and BCR (4.26) were found in one row garlic in between chilli rows and the lowest gross return (Tk. 297800 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk.188080 ha-1) were obtained from sole chilli but the lowest BCR (1.74) in double rows garlic in between chilli rows. Considering the experimental findings of two years, one row garlic in between chilli rows would be a suitable intercropping system for higher productivity and economic return. Bangladesh Agron. The experiment was conducted during rabi season 2019-2020 at Agricultural Research Station, On Farm Research Division, Alamnagar, Rangpur to find out the useful effects of organic fertilizer on growth and yield of tomato. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five treatments in three (03) compacted replicate blocks. The treatments included T1: 100% Recommended Chemical Fertilizer (RCF), T2: 85% CF + 3 tha-1 organic Fertilizer (OF), T3: 85% CF + 1 tha-1 OF, T4: 70% CF + 3 tha-1 OF and T5: 70% CF + 1 tha-1 OF. The highest yield was observed in T2 (50.59 t ha-1) due to more number of fruit plant-1& weight of fruit plant-1 and the lowest was in T5 (35.32 t ha-1). These results may be due the parameters of growth components increased with increasing amount of organic and inorganic fertilizers applied. Combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer treated plots produced higher yield than plots without combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer. The highest gross return (BDT. 607080) was found in T2 treatment and the lowest gross return (BDT. 423840) was recorded from T5. The highest gross margin (BDT. 328520 ha-1) was obtained from T2. The lowest gross margin (Tk. 145280 ha-1) was obtained from T5. On-farm trial was conducted to assess the Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) techniques on yield of rice and soil health after harvest during 2018-19 and 2019-20 at ten locations. The result of three treatments viz. Farmer’s Practice, Technology Option 1 and Technology Option 2 indicated that TO1 and TO2 significantly increased the yield and yield attributing characters over farmer’s practice (FP). Significantly high yield of rice grain (41.2 q per ha) was recorded with INM techniques. The data on available N, P and K status of soil after harvest of rice crop was significantly higher under TO2 as compared to FP. Highest net-return (Rs. 44,214 per ha) with B:C ratio of 2.44 was reported under TO2. INM techniques also resulted in lowest technology gap (8.78 q per ha) and technology index (17.56%) over other treatments which suggests it’s feasibility at farmer’s field.

A field experiment was conducted at Regional Wheat Research Centre of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur for 2 consecutive years during 2006-07 and 2007-08. The objectives were to find out the optimum nutrient management practice on tuber yield, nutrient balance and economics of potato cultivation. Twelve nutrient management treatments were tested in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Treatments were T1=HYG (0-198-44-194-24-6-1.2), T2=MYG (0-140-34-138-18-4.5-0.9), T3=IPNS (10000-168-38-170-18-6-1.2), T4=STB (0-171-40-164-22-5-1), T5=FP (0-97-16-91-0-0-0), T6=CON (0-0-0-0-0-0-0), T7=HYG+CRI, T8=MYG+CRI, T9=IPNS+CRI, T10=STB+CRI, T11=FP+CRI, T12=CON+CRI kg ha-1 CDNPKSZnB for potato. The highest tuber yield of potato was obtained from STB+CRI (27.64 t ha-1) followed by IPNS+CRI (27.35 t ha-1), STB (27.10 t ha-1), IPNS (26.83 t ha-1), HYG+CRI (26.52 t ha-1) and HYG (26.10 t ha-1) in 2006- 07. Similar trend was found in 2007-08. The highest tuber yield and yield contributing parameters were noticed in CRI plots than without CRI. Except N, remaining nutrient balance like P K S Zn and B were found positive in case of HYG, MYG, IPNS and STB along with or without CRI nutrient managements. The balance was found almost negative in case of FP and CON. The highest BCR was observed in STB+CRI (3.96) followed by STB (3.93), IPNS+CRI (3.76), and IPNS (3.74). Field experiments were conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (Aeric Albaquept) under AEZ-28 at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) farm, Gazipur during summer seasons of 2010 and 2011 to determine the optimum rate of boron and molybdenum combination for maximizing the yield of summer country bean (var. BARI Sheem-3). Four levels each of B (0, 1, 2 and 3 kg ha-1 ) and Mo (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 kg ha-1 ) were used as treatment variables. The results indicated that application of B and Mo fertilizer combination exerted significant influence on the number of pods plant-1 , individual pod weight and pod yield ha-1 in both the years. The highest pod yield (9.58 t ha-1 in 2010 and 9.42 t ha-1 in 2011) was produced by the combination of 2 kg B and 1.5 kg Mo ha-1 and it was statistically identical with 2 kg B and 1.0 kg Mo ha-1 combination. Addition of B beyond 2 kg ha-1 along with higher doses of Mo created a detrimental effect to reduce yield irrespective of years. The results revealed that application of 2 kg B and 1 kg Mo ha-1 combination with a blanket dose of 50 kg N, 40 kg P, 60 kg K and 20 kg S ha-1 plus cowdung 5 t ha-1 might be optimum for summer country bean cultivation in Grey Terrace Soil of Gazipur.Bangladesh J. Twelve nutrient management treatments were tested in RCBD with 3 replications. Treatments were without CRI T1=HYG (0-24-40-48-24-3-1.2), T2=MYG (0-20-36-40-20-2-1), T3=IPNS (5000-9-37-36-21-3-1.2), T4=STB (0- 20-36-40-22-2-1), T5=FP (0-6-5-4-0-0-0), T6=CON (0-0-0-0-0-0-0) and with CRI T7=HYG+CRI, T8=MYG+CRI, T9=IPNS+CRI, T10=STB+CRI, T11=FP+CRI, T12=CON+CRI kg ha-1 CDNPKSZnB for mungbean. The maximum seed yield of mungbean was obtained from STB+CRI (1.57 t ha-1) followed by IPNS+CRI (1.54 t ha-1), STB (1.54 t ha-1), IPNS (1.52 t ha-1), HYG+CRI (1.44 t ha-1) and HYG (1.41 t ha-1) in 2007. Similar trend was found in 2008. Numerically higher yield and yield contributing parameters were noticed in CRI plots than without CRI. N and K balance were found negative in all the treatments. P, S, Zn and B balance were found positive in case of HYG, MYG, IPNS and STB along with or without CRI nutrient managements. While in case of FP and CON, the balance was shown almost negative. The maximum gross return and margin was obtained from STB+CRI followed by STB. Slightly higher BCR (3.00) was recorded from STB followed by STB+CRI (2.91).Bangladesh J. Agril.
