Momordica charantia L. (Bitter gourd) is one of the popular vegetable in Bangladesh as well as in the world. After harvesting the vegetables are contaminated with fungi within 3-4 days of short storage. An investigation was carried out to find out the fungi associated with fruits of two varieties of Momordica charantia during the tenure of May 2015 to June 2016. Nine species of fungi namely, Aspergillus flavus Link, A. fumigatus Fresenius, A. niger van Tiegh, Curvularia brchyspora Boedijn, Fusarium Link, Mucor Fresen, Penicillium Link, Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb.:Fr.) Vuill and Trichoderma viride Pers. were found to be associated with the selected vegetable. .Aspergillus niger was predominating fungus associated with both the varieties of bitter gourd. Among the isolated 9 fungi A. niger, C. brchyspora, Fusarium sp., R. stolonifer and T. viride were found to be pathogenic to both the varieties of M. charantia. Asiat. Soc. Five types of symptom were recorded on two varieties of rose plant. The symptoms were Black spot, Leaf spot1, Leaf spot2, Blight and Anthracnose. The study revealed the presence of 20 species of fungi belonging to 17 genera. The isolated fungi were Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, Arthrinium saccharicola Stevenson, Aspergillus flavus, Link., A. niger van Tiegh., Botrytis allii Munn, Cercospora sp., Cladosporium cladosporioides (Fresen.) de Vries, C. oxysporum Berk. & Curt., two species of Colletotrichum, Curvularia brakyospora Boedijn, Curvularia pallescens Boedijn, Fusarium sp., Epicoccum purpurascens Ehreneb ex Schlecht; Link, Gibberella sp., Marssonina rosea (Lib.) Died, Nigrospora sphaerica (Sacc.) Masson, Pestalotiopsis guepinii (Desm.) Stay. with its two culture types, Penicillium sp., Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb. Ex. Fr) Vuill. and Trichoderma viride Pers. ex Fries. The frequency (%) of association of P. guepinii was higher than any other fungi. Pestalotiopsis guepinii and its two culture types were found to be pathogenic to rose plant. Histological studies were carried out to investigate the impact of some pathogenic organisms on infected cassava root after different periods of incubation. Cassava roots inoculated with Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus flavus, and Trichoderma viride showed progressive depletion of the starch grains in the cells and tissue maceration of the cassava root as the period of incubation increased. Cassava root inoculated with A. flavus showed tissue necrosis and slight fragmentation of the starch grains whereas, cassava tissues infected with A. niger showed tissue necrosis and general maceration of the starch grains within the tissue thereby creating empty spaces within the cells with no clear arrangement of the starch grains. Inoculation of the cassava tissues with R. stolonifer resulted in rapid loss of the starch grains and erosion of surrounding cell boundaries. Cassava tissue colonized by T. viride showed tissue necrosis and maceration of the starch grains. Healthy (uninoculated) cassava root tissue showed intact cells packed with large starch grains suggesting that in the host-parasite relationship, the pathogens established themselves inter and intracellularly in the parenchymatous cells of the cortex of the cassava root clearing them of starch grains, and resulting to poor yield and nutritional value of cassava and also economic loss.

A total of 17 species of fungi representing 11 genera were found to be associated with Houttuynia cordata Thunb. The isolated fungi were Aspergillus flavus Link, Aspergillus niger Van Tiegh., Cercospora houtttuyniicola Goh et Hsieh, Colletotrichum coffeanum Noack, Colletotrichum dematium (Pers. Ex Fr.) Grove, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Sacc., Curvularia brachyspora Boedijn., Curvularia fallax Boedijn., Curvularia pallescens Boedijn., Fusarium sp., Nigrospora sacchari (Speg.) Mason., Penicillium sp., Pestalotiopsis spp., Syncephalastrum sp., Trichoderma viride Pers. Ex Fries. and a member of Zygomycetes. Cercospora houtttuyniicola is a new record for Bangladesh. All the isolated fungi were tested for pathogenicity. RESUMO Acca sellowiana é uma espécie frutífera nativa da Região Sul do Brasil que está despertando grande interesse econômico devido ao alto potencial organoléptico de seus frutos. A principal forma de propagação da espécie é via sexuada. Objetivando determinar a qualidade sanitária das sementes, foram comparadas três formas de detecção de fungos, com ou sem a assepsia superficial, em sementes oriundas de quatro municípios do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul e de três municípios do Estado de Santa Catarina. Foram testados os meios de cultura Batata-Dextrose-Ágar (BDA), V8 (suco de tomate) e o método Blotter Test. Foram identificados os seguintes fungos: Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium sp., Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium sp., Curvularia sp., Alternaria sp., Trichoderma sp., Epicoccum sp. e Phomopsis sp. Os meios agarizados são mais sensíveis na detecção de fungos em sementes de goiaba serrana. A assepsia das sementes reduz a incidência de fungos infestantes.

Two types of symptoms, blight and anthracnose, were recorded on two species of Gerbera viz. Gerbera aurantiaca L. and Gerbera viridifolia L. The most common fungal species isolated from Gerbera spp. were Alternaria citrii, A. tennuisssima, Aspergillus flavus, A. fumigatus, A. niger, A. terreus, Bipolaris hawaiiensis, Chaetomella raphigera, Cladosporium cladosporoides, Colletotrichum capsici, C. coffeanum, C. dematium, C. gleosporioides, C. lindemuthianum, C. musae, C. orbiculare, Colletorichum sp.1, Colletotrichum sp.2, Colletotrichum sp.3, Colletotrichum sp.4, Curvularia clavata, C. lunata, Fusarium nivale, F. semitectum, Phomopsis sp., Penicillium sp., Pestalotia sp., Rhizopus stolonifer, Trichoderma viride, one cleistothecial ascomycetes and one sterile fungus. The frequency percentage of association of Colletotrichum spp. with Gerbera spp. was higher than any other fungi. Bipolaris hawaiiensis is a new record for Bangladesh. Among the isolated fungi Alternaria citrii, A. tennuissima, Colletotrichum capcisi, C. dematium, C. coffeanum and Curvularia clavata were found to be pathogenic to Gerbera plant. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar os efeitos inibitórios, "in vitro", de óleos essenciais dos condimentos, alecrim (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), cebola (Allium cepa L.), manjericão (Ocimum basilicum L.), menta (Mentha piperita L.) e orégano (Origanum vulgare L.), sobre o desenvolvimento de fungos. Os óleos foram extraídos pela técnica de arraste a vapor e testados nas concentrações de 500; 1000; 1500 e 2000 mg/mL-1. Como culturas de teste foram utilizados os fungos Fusarium sp.; Aspergillus ochraceus Wilhelm.; Aspergillus flavus Link e Aspergillus niger van Tieghem obtidos da micoteca do EcoCentro/EPAMIG em Lavras, MG. O óleo essencial do orégano inibiu o desenvolvimento dos fungos testados em todas as concentrações exceto o fungo A. niger que teve o seu desenvolvimento micelial inibido a partir da concentração de 1000 mg/mL-1,. Os óleos de alecrim, menta, cebola e manjericão tiveram um efeito pronunciado a partir da concentração de 1500 mg/mL-1.

Twenty species of fungi associated with blight symptom of different plant parts of Tagetes erecta L. and T. patula L. have been described. The associated fungi were Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, Aspergillus flavus Link, A. fumigatus Fresenius, A. niger van Tieghem, Bipolaris australiens is (M.B. Fifteen fungal species representing 12 genera were found to be associated with leaf spot and anthracnose diseases of Rauvolfia serpentina (L.) Benth. ex Kurz. which were collected from different habitats of Bangladesh. Fungi were isolated following ‘tissue planting’ and ‘blotter’ method. The isolated fungi were Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, Aspergillus flavus Link ex Fr., A. niger van Tieghm, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Sacc., Curvularia lunata (Wakker) Boedijn, Fusarium sp.1. Fusarium sp. 2, Macrophoma sp., Nigrospora sphaerica (Sacc.) Mason, Penicillium digitatum Saccardo, Penicillium italicum Whemer, Pestalotiopsis guepinii (Desm.) Stay, Pseudocercospora libenbergii (Syd.) Deighton, Rhizopus stolonifera Vuillemin. Toney, Trichoderma viride Pers. A total of 11 fungal species were isolated from the 25 infected fruit samples of three varieties (Sabri, Champa and Sagor) of Musa sapientum. The isolated fungi were Aspergillus flavus Link, A. fumigatus Fresenius, A. niger van Tiegh., Colletotrichum musae (Berk. & Curt.) Arx, Curvularia brachyspora Boedijn., Fusarium semitectum Berk. & Rav. Fusarium sp. Link, Penicillium sp., Pestalotiopsis disseminata (Thum) Steyaert, Rhizopus sp. Ehrenb. and Trichoderma viride Pers. ex Gray. Fusarium semitectum showed the highest (28.61) per cent association frequency in Sabri variety whereas Fusarium sp. showed the lowest (3.33). Curvularia brachyspora showed the highest (21.11) per cent frequency in Champa variety whereas A. fumigatus showed the lowest (2.78). Fusarium sp. showed the highest (41.67) per cent frequency in Sagor variety whereas T. viride showed the lowest (3.34). Among the isolated fungi C. musae, C. brachyspora, F. semitectum, Fusarium sp. and P. disseminata were found to be pathogenic to three banana varieties. Abstract: Latex is a natural plant polymer and milky white fluid distributed throughout the plant body like leaves, stems, roots and fruits of all flowering plants and consists of proteins, alkaloids, starches, sugars, oils, tannins, resins and gums that coagulate on-air exposure. It is secreted by specialized plant cells called Laticifers. Plants exude latex in response to physical damage. The present study was carried out to assess the potential antifungal activity of latex of five different plants namely Plumeria rubra, Plumeria alba, Aloe vera, Calotropis procera and Calotropis gigantea against three different pathogenic strains of fungi. All five latexes were found to show good to moderated activity against all the three fungal strains, namely Trichoderma viride, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger. The latex of each plant was tested in two volumes (i.e. 10µl & 20µl), and it was found that the antifungal activity was volume-dependent, and a significant difference was also observed in the case of different fungal strains. The antifungal activity of plant latexes was evaluated by Agar well diffusion method; results revealed that among all the five latexes, the fresh latex of Plumeria rubra (Vol: 10µl &20µl) showed excellent antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus, whereas fresh latex of Aloe vera (Vol: 10µl & 20µl) showed excellent antifungal activity against Trichoderma viride. The results of the current research imply that the antifungal activity of latex varies with the species of plants and the fungal strains used. The results therefore demonstrated that, the used five latexes effectively inhibited the growth of three tested fungi. Hence, these plant latexes are natural, ecofriendly and can be used as good candidates for the treatment of various fungal diseases. In further words, they can be used for therapy of antifungal-resistant fungi.
