International and national laws governing the management of living marine resources generally require specification of harvest limits. To assist with the management of data-limited species, stocks are often grouped into complexes and assessed and managed as a single unit. The species that comprise a complex should have similar life history, susceptibility to the fishing gear, and spatial distribution, such that common management measures will likely lead to sustainable harvest of all species in the complex. However, forming complexes to meet these standards is difficult due to the lack of basic biological or fisheries data to inform estimates of biological vulnerability and fishery susceptibility. A variety of cluster and ordination techniques are applied to bycatch rockfish species in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) as a case study to demonstrate how groupings may differ based on the multivariate techniques used and the availability and reliability of life history, fishery independent survey, and fishery catch data. For GOA rockfish, our results demonstrate that fishing gear primarily defined differences in species composition, and we suggest that these species be grouped by susceptibility to the main fishing gears while monitoring those species with high vulnerabilities to overfishing. Current GOA rockfish complex delineations (i.e., Other Rockfish and Demersal Shelf Rockfish) are consistent with the results of this study, but should be expanded across the entire GOA. Differences observed across species groupings for the variety of data types and multivariate approaches utilized demonstrate the importance of exploring a diversity of methods. As best practice in identifying species complexes, we suggest using a productivity-susceptibility analysis or expert judgment to begin groupings. Then a variety of multivariate techniques and data sources should be used to identify complexes, while balancing an appropriate number of manageable groups. Thus, optimal species complex groupings should be determined by commonality and consistency among a variety of multivariate methods and datasets.

The previous chapter overviewed big data including its types, sources, analytic techniques, and applications. This chapter briefly discusses the architecture components dealing with the huge volume of data. The complexity of big data types defines a logical architecture with layers and high-level components to obtain a big data solution that includes data sources with the relation to atomic patterns. The dimensions of the approach include volume, variety, velocity, veracity, and governance. The diverse layers of the architecture are big data sources, data massaging and store layer, analysis layer, and consumption layer. Big data sources are data collected from various sources to perform analytics by data scientists. Data can be from internal and external sources. Internal sources comprise transactional data, device sensors, business documents, internal files, etc. External sources can be from social network profiles, geographical data, data stores, etc. Data massage is the process of extracting data by preprocessing like removal of missing values, dimensionality reduction, and noise removal to attain a useful format to be stored. Analysis layer is to provide insight with preferred analytics techniques and tools. The analytics methods, issues to be considered, requirements, and tools are widely mentioned. Consumption layer being the result of business insight can be outsourced to sources like retail marketing, public sector, financial body, and media. Finally, a case study of architectural drivers is applied on a retail industry application and its challenges and usecases are discussed.

AbstractIn this chapter, after summarising the key conceptual challenges related to the measurement of asylum migration, we briefly outline the history of recent migration flows from Syria to Europe. This case study is intended to guide the development of a model of migration route formation, used throughout this book as an illustration of the proposed model-based research process. Subsequently, for the case study, we offer an overview of the available data types, making a distinction between the sources related to the migration processes, as well as to the context within which migration occurs. We then propose a framework for assessing different aspects of data, based on a review of similar approaches suggested in the literature, and this framework is subsequently applied to a selection of available data sources. The chapter concludes with specific recommendations for using the different forms of data in formal modelling, including in the uncertainty assessment.

In this case the history of Siti Chairani Proehoeman's career as a soprano based on data, sources, informants and all matters relating to the life history of an artist. This research method, analytic description, case study, observer participation. The results showed that, in the practice of Siti Chairani Proehoeman's life based on a musicalological perspective and assisted through historical and biographical reviews, Siti Chairani Proehoeman's position was a famous soprano.

Abstract Faunce, C. H. A 2011. comparison between industry and observer catch compositions within the Gulf of Alaska rockfish fishery. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 68: 1769–1777. Stock assessment scientists and fishery managers operate under the necessary assumption that the identities of species in official catch reports are known without error. To test this assumption, the incidence, magnitude, and possible causes of species misidentification between industry and fishery-observer data sources were investigated for 29 rockfish landings made in Kodiak, AK. Rockfish species were misidentified in nearly all these landings, and the incidence of misidentification between data sources differed among species rather than the processing plant examined. Although observers failed to identify species recorded by processing plant staff as a result of small sampling fractions, the industry missed species that were identified by observers in more than half the offloads examined. The presence of management species complexes did not reduce the likelihood of erroneous quota debiting as a result of species misidentification. In one landing, the misidentification of the main rockfish species corresponded to the release of a weekly report on total allowable catch and resulted in a delayed fishery closure. Efforts to improve the accuracy of species identifications reported by industry in landing reports are warranted in Alaska, and methods to accomplish this through efficient deployment of observers are discussed.

This paper introduces the new concept of “eco-fusion” through an exploratory case study project. It suggests the importance of multi-scalar practice in the broader field of eco-urbanism. This study introduces eco-fusion as a multiplexed paradigm, which is then discussed in two different development models. This paper first highlights the position of “eco” in urbanism by providing a brief account of key terms and how they relate to one another. It then points out the associations between eco-fusion and sustainable urban development. Through an exploratory case study example in China, the practical factors of eco-development are assessed. The study aims to provide a set of intermediate development stages while maintaining each spatial level’s interface in their own defined and distinguished contexts. The key objective is to consider integrating the natural and built environments, which is considered the best practice of eco-development in urbanism. This study’s findings highlight integrated methods in eco-urbanism and suggest new directions for eco-planning/eco-design strategies.

The number of family caregivers to individuals with dementia is increasing. Family physicians are often the first point of access to the health care system for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Caregivers are at an increased risk of developing negative physical, cognitive and affective health problems themselves. Caregivers also describe having unmet needs to help them sustain care in the community. Family physicians are in a unique position to help support caregivers and individuals with dementia, but often struggle with keeping up with best practice dementia service knowledge. The Dementia Wellness Questionnaire was designed to serve as a starting point for discussions between caregivers and family physicians by empowering caregivers to communicate their needs and concerns and to enhance family physicians’ access to specific dementia support information. The DWQ aims to alert physicians of caregiver and patient needs. This pilot study aimed to explore the experiences of physicians and caregivers of people using the Questionnaire in two family medicine clinics in Ontario, Canada. Interviews with physicians and caregivers collected data on their experiences using the DWQ following a 10-month data gathering period. Data was analyzed using content analysis. Results indicated that family physicians may have an improved efficacy in managing dementia by having dementia care case specific guidelines integrated within electronic medical records. By having time-efficient access to tailored supports, family physicians can better address the needs of the caregiver–patient dyad and help support family caregivers in their caregiving role. Caregivers expressed that the Questionnaire helped them remember concerns to bring up with physicians, in order to receive help in a more efficient manner.

This article presents a case study of the research and evaluation program for the National Serious Injury Service of New Zealand's Accident Compensation Corporation.
