An increase in narcissism has been reported by experts over the years. Narcissists bring a lot of negative consequences to themselves and to the people around them. This study investigates that perceived parenting leads to the development of inflated, unstable self-concept. The inflated self-concept lays the framework for the development of narcissistic traits among individuals; perceived parenting affects this relationship. A sample of 628 adults was taken from North Cyprus through purposive sampling. Scales for perceived parenting, self-concept, and narcissism were administered. Results showed that the statistically significant variance in the self-concept is explained by perceived parenting. Both mothers and fathers contributed significantly to the development of inflated self-concept. Moreover, multiple linear regression results showed a higher significant variance in narcissistic traits due to self-concept compared with perceived parenting. Mediational tests also showed that high levels of narcissistic traits were indirectly related to self-concept through perceived parenting. The study findings have challenged the notion of only mothers being responsible for narcissistic traits among their children. The study results also suggest that targeting self-concept in individuals with narcissistic traits may be a good directive for therapeutic interventions.

Abstract Background: Increase in narcissism has been a growing concern over the years. Narcissists bring lot of negative consequences to themselves and to people around them. The present study aimed at exploring effects of perceived parenting and self-concept in the development of narcissistic traits and how adults view themselves and recollect parenting effects throughout their lives in order to guide the interventions accordingly. Method: A sample of 628 adults were taken from North Cyprus and Turkey who can comprehend and write English language. Information demographic form, Alabama Parenting Questionnaire (APQ) for perceived parenting, Six Factor Self Concept Scale (SFSCS) for self-concept and Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) for narcissism were administered for the purpose of data collection. Results: Several constituents of perceived parenting and self-concept interconnect in order to exhibit the distinctive narcissistic traits of an individual. The results of the present showed that perceived parenting specifically perceived parental involvement as well as positive parenting mediate the relationship between self-concept and narcissism among adults. The higher the involvement, the more inflated self-concept was found leading to the development of narcissistic traits. Perceived parenting received from fathers also was found to statistically significant contribution to the development of inflated self-concept and narcissism. Conclusion: It provides the basis for the therapeutic interventions to be focusing on the self-concept of narcissistic individuals along with parenting experiences. The study findings also have challenged the notion of only mothers to be responsible for narcissistic traits among their children.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of transformational leadership and employee empowerment on employee performance and organizational commitment through the mediational role of behavioral integrity (BI).Design/methodology/approachData were collected through a self-administered questionnaire based on measurement of variables adopted from earlier studies. A total of 532 usable responses were collected through officer grade and executive level employees of selected banks from the Multan district, Pakistan. Confirmatory factor analysis was run using AMOS 23.0 whereas PROCESS macro in SPSS 23.0 was used for path analysis.FindingsThe study results revealed that transformational leadership and employee empowerment positively affect employee performance and organizational commitment through the mediational effect of BI.Originality/valueThe role of BI in enhancing employees’ performance and organizational commitment has been overlooked in the extant literature. Especially, in the emerging economies, where there is growing employer–employee trust deficit, this investigation brings in useful contribution.

In an attempt to reduce the negative consequences of adolescent media use, parents often monitor their children’s online activities. However, research suggests that parental monitoring often does not reduce children’s problematic mobile phone use as expected. Based on the results of a survey of 584 Chinese adolescents, we found that parental monitoring positively predicted children’s problematic mobile phone use (PMPU) within a Chinese cultural context. The results also showed that children’s escape motivation partially mediated this relationship, while their level of shyness moderated both the mediated path and the direct impact of parental monitoring on children’s PMPU. The findings suggested that a higher level of shyness increased the likelihood that parental monitoring would increase the child’s escape motivation and PMPU. The study results provide guidelines for parents and educators regarding interventions for adolescents’ problematic phone use.

Abstract Previous research has supported the importance of the interaction between family and school contexts for student adjustment to school. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of school engagement and academic self-concept in relation to family adaptability/cohesion, social acceptability and school adjustment. A sample of 268 5th- and 6th-grade students aged 11–13 years (131 males, 137 females) from elementary schools in Iran participated in this study. Results showed that school adjustment was positively related to family adaptability/cohesion, social acceptability, school engagement, and academic self-concept. Family adaptability/cohesion and social acceptability also positively correlated with school engagement and academic self-concept. In addition, the data provided a good fit for the hypothesised model of the mediating role of school engagement and academic self-concept in relation to family adaptability/cohesion, social acceptability, and school adjustment. The results showed that coherent and adaptable family systems and high social acceptability of students can affect school adjustment both directly and indirectly through school engagement and academic self-concept.

  La adolescencia es un período de transición, comprendido entre la niñez y la etapa adulta, en la cual se presentan cambios físicos, emocionales y biopsicosociales que generan inestabilidad e incertidumbre. En ocasiones esto puede desembocar en el desarrollo de una baja autoestima producto de un autoconcepto o autopercepción sesgada por los contextos de vida. Esto puede traer consecuencias negativas para la vida escolar ya sea por una mala convivencia con sus pares, desarrollar poca confianza para exponer ideas o sentimientos negativos hacia su propia persona, entre otros. La danza y sus efectos en la autopercepción de adolescentes será abordada en este artículo sobre la base de una investigación de revisión bibliográfica realizada en diversas bases de datos que tuvo por objetivo identificar aquellos artículos que pudiesen ayudarnos a determinar en particular el efecto de la danza en la autopercepción y la autoestima en programas de intervención, es decir, sobre la base de las experiencias, más allá de la teoría. Posterior a la búsqueda bibliográfica, sólo 5 artículos se refieren en específico al objetivo planteado, lo que refuerza la idea del rol de este tipo de prácticas en la etapa escolar y una serie de consideraciones a mencionar en este artículo. También surgen cuestionamientos acerca de las escasas investigaciones de este tipo en esta área y de la importancia de incluir multifactores de análisis en el desarrollo de la autoestima y autoconcepto. Abstract. Adolescence is a transition period, between childhood and adulthood, in which physical, emotional, and biopsychosocial changes occur that generate instability and uncertainty. Sometimes this can lead to the development of low self-esteem as a result of a self-concept or self-perception biased by life contexts. This can have negative consequences for school life, either due to poor coexistence with peers, developing little confidence to expose negative ideas or feelings towards their own person among others. Dance and its effects on the self-perception of adolescents will be addressed in this article based on a bibliographic review investigation carried out in various databases that aimed to identify those articles that could help us determine in particular the effect of dance on Self-perception and self-esteem in intervention programs, that is, on the basis of experiences beyond theory. Of the result, 5 articles refer specifically to the proposed objective, which reinforces the idea of ​​the role of this type of practice in the school stage and a series of considerations to be mentioned in this article. Questions also arise about the scarcity of research of this type in this area and the importance of including multifactor analysis in the development of self-esteem and self-concept.

AbstractThis study tackles the place and role of the Orthodox Church in Serbian society, state, and political life after October 5, 2000. Owing to its present “symphony” with the state, the church now offers a new ideological framework and value-system for state institutions such as the armed forces and public education. This new role of the church is particularly emphasized in the current legislation. One could probably refer to the “etatization” of the Serbian Church, with some negative consequences for non-traditional religious communities. The relations with the Macedonian and Montenegrin Orthodox churches have also been discussed in this context. In post-Milošević Serbia, religious rights and freedoms have been considerably extended, but there is still a great deal of arbitrariness, even completely partial interpretations of the church-state relations. In the concluding section, this article deals with the church's traditionalist perception of society as narod (the people), with some recommendations as for the possible cooperation between the church and civil society in Serbia.

Objective. The present study objective is to examine (a) the links between temporal evolution of peer motivational climate and sport related well-being (SRWB), and (b) the mediational role of motivation in these relationships, using within and between level analyses. Method. 73 athletes aged 18-25 years completed questionnaires on peer motivational climate (peerMC), motivation, burnout, and engagement, every week among one month. Linear Mixed Models were used to analyze the data. Results. Task peerMC significantly predicted autonomous motivation at the within- and between-person level, burnout at the within-person level, and engagement at the within-person level. Moreover, autonomous motivation was identified as a mediator of the relationship between task peerMC and burnout at the within-person level, and task peerMC and engagement at the within- and between-person level. Ego peerMC significantly predicted autonomous motivation at the within-person level, and autonomous motivation was also confirmed as a mediator of the relationship between ego peerMC and burnout, as well as between ego peerMC and engagement at the within-person level. Conclusion. The results confirm that a task-oriented peerMC is likely to lead to the most positive consequences for athletes in terms of motivation and SRWB, whereas the ego-driven climate leads to more negative consequences.

Adoption provides a unique opportunity to study the simultaneous effect on adoptees’ development of environmental influences related to adoptive parenting, and children’s biology-based characteristics. In this paper, two Hybrid Dyadic Models were tested to study the mediational role of the adoptees’ negative reactivity on the relationship between mothers and fathers’ supportive (Model A) and unsupportive (Model B) parenting, and adoptees’ social skills. In a sample of 102 couples, mothers and fathers’ reports on adoptees’ social skills, the adoptees’ negative reactivity, and supportive/unsupportive parenting were explored. Supportive/unsupportive parenting was assessed individually (mothers and fathers separately), whereas the adoptees’ negative reactivity and social skills were treated as common fate variables, with both parents’ scores as indicators of a latent construct. Results were non-significant for Model A. Regarding Model B, different relation patterns between unsupportive parenting and social skills were found, depending on whether it was the mother's or the father's parenting. The child's negative reactivity mediated the relationship between the father's (not the mother's) unsupportive parenting and the child's social skills. With information from both parents and considering simultaneously their unique and shared perspectives, this study advances adoption research and strengthens the relevance of dyadic analyses when studying the adoptive family dynamics.

This article aims to identify and analyze the empowerment program for farming groups through countering cultivation and cocoa pest control, and to empower farmer groups by increasing broader insight into the cocoa plant, as well as the pests and diseases that attack these plants. The method of study used Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach to obtain the local community efforts in conducting their own assessments, analysis and planning. The study results showed that in the last few years, most of the people of Padasuka Village, Sub- District of Petir have planted many cocoa trees. Because it has a normal height of 400 meters above sea level, it makes cacao trees thrive in this village. However, even so, there are still many people who do not really understand how to plant and care for cocoa trees which results in many experiencing crop failures. When viewed in the market, the price of cocoa beans is quite stable so that it can help the community's economy. Therefore, this is inseparable from the role of extension workers who provide education and empowerment of farmers. We together with the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) have provided education through socialization programs to the community, especially the Harapan Sejahtera III farmer group. Activities carried out include counseling on cocoa cultivation, pest control in cocoa, and field practice of making pest traps.
