Devices that release a synthetic analog of the canine-appeasing pheromone can help to relax dogs during stressful situations, but they usually last for only one month. Two new devices with this analog were tested by owners of dogs showing signs of stress in a range of everyday situations: Zenidog™ collar, lasting three months, and Zenidog™ diffusing gel, lasting two months (Virbac, Carros, France). They were compared against reference products that last for one month. In the three-month study with collars, one group received Zenidog™ collar, one received the reference collar, and one group of dogs wore an antiparasitic collar alongside a Zenidog™ collar. In the two-month study with diffusers, groups received either the unpowered Zenidog™ gel diffuser or the reference electric diffuser. Owners regularly completed a questionnaire that assessed seventeen general behaviors and sources of fear and eleven specific signs of stress. Global scores for these two main scales were calculated, and the evolution of scores was compared between groups. Non-parametric tests with a Bonferroni correction were used for statistical analysis. An improvement of all global scores was observed in all groups (p < 0.001), including in puppies, and there was no difference between groups. Zenidog™ devices were as effective as the reference devices and lasted longer.

Abstract This explorative study focuses on grammatical taboos in German, morphosyntactic constructions which are subject to stigmatisation, as they regularly occur in standard languages. They are subjected to systematic experimental testing in a questionnaire study with gradient rating scales on two salient and two non-salient grammatical taboo phenomena of German. The study is divided into three subexperiments with different judgement types, an aesthetic judgement, a norm-oriented judgement and the sort of possibility judgement that comes closest to linguists’ understanding of grammar. Included in the investigated material are also examples of ordinary gradient grammaticality: unmarked, marked and ungrammatical sentences. The empirical characteristics of grammatical taboos are compared to those ordinary cases with the finding that they are rated at the level of markedness, but differ from ordinary markedness in that they produce a different pattern of between-subject variance. In addition, we find that grammatical taboos have a particular disadvantage under the aesthetic judgement type. The paper also introduces the concept of empirical grammaticality as a necessary theoretical cornerstone for empirical linguistics. Methodically, the study applies a mix of parametric and non-parametric methods of statistical analysis.

The cultural and historical heritage of a city is a major resource for attracting tourists. Therefore, determining how to perceive and identify the characteristics of persons visiting a locality attracted by its heritage is relevant for the purpose of better meeting their expectations and needs. This research focuses on understanding the perceptions, motivations, and satisfaction of women visiting Cordoba (Spain). Thus, on the basis of a questionnaire completed by women visiting Cordoba between the months of June and November 2019, statistical analysis was conducted. Using various multivalent case-grouping techniques, segments of tourists holding similar perceptions of cultural heritage were detected. Moreover, non-parametric statistical techniques highlighted significant differences between the valuations obtained in the various segments. This analysis exposed a segment of women who, known as absorptive tourists, are characterized by a high cultural motivation to visit the city of Cordoba linked to the heritage sites they have visited. The conclusions obtained herein should be useful for adjusting the city’s provision of tourism services to satisfy the demand of female tourists visiting the city.

This research was intended for reducing student hedonic behaved, using experiment type Pre-Experimental Design with research One-Group Pretest-Posttest Designs. Data was collected using questionnares and observation instruments. Data analysis used descriptive statistical analysis and non parametric inferential statistical analysis. The results of research showed that the hedonist behavior of the students before being given the treatment of existential humanistic counseling approached was in the high category and after being given the treatment of humanistic existential counseling is in the low category, the treatment was be given through three steps namely preliminary step, mid step and termination step with seven times for face-to-face meetings.

Parametric approaches in statistical analysis assume that any given data are normally distributed. Therefore, the test of whether this conventional assumption is valid should be made in this context of the available data’s normality before being passed to the application of statistical tests. The paper is focused on the normality methodologies commonly used in literature, named Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Jarque-Bera, D’agostino, Anderson Darling, Shapiro-Wilk and Ryan Joiner. In the study, the seasonal maximum data from eight streamflow gauging stations in Yesilirmak Basin was used as material. The normality in the 59% of the whole data sets were obtained as the highest result by the Kolmogorov –Smirnov approach, when compared to the other normality tests considered in the study.

SUMMARY Purpose: To investigate the effect of different light exposure times, shades, and thicknesses on the depth of cure (DOC) of bulk fill composites. Methods and Materials: Two bulk fill composites, Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill (TBF) and Sonic Fill (SF), and a conventional composite, Filtek Supreme Ultra (FSU), were evaluated. Samples (n=10) were made using two different shades (light and dark), thicknesses (2 and 4 mm) and exposure times (20 and 40 seconds). A Tukon 2100B-testing machine was used to obtain three Knoop hardness numbers (KHNs) measured at the top and bottom of each sample, and DOC was calculated as the bottom/top ratio. Statistical analysis was done using a Student t-test for comparisons between groups with a Bonferroni correction of p &lt; 0.004. Results: Top hardness values ranged from 79.79 to 85.07 for FSU, 69.49 to 91.65 for SF, and 51.01 to 57.82 for TBF. Bottom KHNs ranged from 23.54 to 73.25 for FSU, 45.74 to 77.12 for SF, and 36.95 to 52.51 for TBF. TBF had the lowest overall KHNs. Light-curing exposure time, shade, and material thickness influenced the DOC in most groups, especially at 4-mm depths. A higher bottom/top ratio was achieved when a 40-second cure was compared to a 20-second cure, when light shades were compared to dark shades, and when 2-mm increments were compared to 4-mm increments.

The use of Electrooculogram (EOG) signals for developing Human-Computer Interfaces is increasing in the recent times. Several advantages including ease and flexibility in acquiring EOG signals have encouraged insight into EOG based research. In order to identify optimal features for EOG signals for rehabilitation applications, it is necessary to apply the statistical basis to decide the selection of best feature. This paper suggests a pilot study on non-parametric statistical based approach for analyzing EOG signals. This paper considers the detailed statistical analysis of Electrooculogram (EOG) signals. The EOG signals are acquired by considering the horizontal and vertical movements of the eye. The recording includes subjects with identified age groups with different activities. Power spectral densities based on Welch, Yule-Walker, Burg methods are estimated from the acquired EOG signals. Then non-parametric based statistical analysis is performed to show whether the gender or age of the subject influences the EOG signal obtained for different activities. The experimental results based on statistical analysis show that the raw data did not hold any significance to categorize male-female or age wise grouping. However, some features extracted set from the raw data provides useful statistical information which will be of great importance when used for selective rehabilitation.


This chapter discusses the analysis of data in quantitative research and the most common strategies to follow. Undergraduate students in most programmes may not necessarily need to use advanced statistical analysis. This chapter takes the readers through parametric and non-parametric tests. Readers will be able to grasp measurement tests that are appropriate for several quantitative data analysis in research projects. The differences between parametric and non-parametric tests are examined and explored in some detail. The assumptions for parametric and non-parametric measures are also highlighted and relevant examples provided and should enable the reader to select appropriate measures for their research projects.
