Background: Handheld dynamometers are used for diagnosis and rehabilitation at several pathologies. Grip force is essential for a person’s quality of life. Most dynamometers are not equipped with rehabilitation or training protocols, although the bibliography highlights this need. Objective: To compare the validity and reliability of Jamar and K-Force Grip dynamometers in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome and healthy people. Methods: Concurrent validity was assessed using known weights. Forty-four (44) patients and 69 healthy adults performed three maximum repetitions in random order with each hand, at each instrument. Reliability was evaluated using ICCs for each instrument separately, and between the two instruments. The differences between the two dynamometers were evaluated using repeated t-tests. Results: Concurrent validity of the two instruments did not reveal fix or proportional bias. Analyses for reliability yield high correlation coefficients for both groups with the lower one being between the two instruments r = 0.90, p < 0.05, (0.72–0.91) for the healthy group. T-tests showed that all participants had lower force values when using the K-Force Grip (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both dynamometers were reliable in measuring hand grip strength for both groups. K-Force Grip was reliable and valid with respect to Jamar that was used as a benchmark. The different handle dimensions between the two dynamometers may be the reason for the different force values.

The current research aims to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Hindi Child Perception Questionnaire (CPQ11–14) in a child population of India. A randomly selected sample of children aged 11–14 years (n = 331) and their parents completed the Hindi translation of CPQ11–14 and the Parental-Caregiver Perceptions Questionnaire (P-CPQ), respectively, in this cross-sectional study. Children also provided a self-rating of oral health and were examined for dental caries. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted to assess the dimensionality of the Hindi-CPQ11–14. Internal consistency and reliability on repeated administration were evaluated. Convergent and divergent validities were determined by estimating correlation coefficients between items and the hypothesised subscales. Concurrent validity was assessed using multiple linear regression analyses. The four factors extracted in EFA had a total variance of 38.5%, comprising 31 items. Cronbach’s alpha for the internal consistency of the overall scale was 0.90; reliability on repeated administration was 0.92. All the Hindi CPQ11–14 items had an item-hypothesised subscale correlation coefficient of ≥0.4, and these were greater than item-other hypothesised subscale correlations, demonstrating good convergent and divergent validities respectively. Hindi-CPQ11–14 was associated with self-ratings of the oral health and overall P-CPQ scores demonstrating good concurrent validity. Hindi-CPQ11–14 showed a factor structure different from the English CPQ11–14 and exhibited good validity and reliability.

The instrument was tested </em><em>by</em><em> 32 mathematics education students to measure empirical validity and reliability. This research resulted in three items of mathematical refractive thinking ability tests that are valid and have instrument reliability in the medium category.</em><em></em></p>

Background. Grip-force performance can be affected by aging, and hand-grip weakness is associated with functional limitations of dasily living. However, using an appropriate digital hand-held dynamometer with continuous hand-grip force data collection shows age-related changes in the quality of hand-grip force control may provide more valuable information for clinical diagnoses rather than merely recording instantaneous maximal hand-grip force in frail elderly adults or people with a disability. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to indicate the construct validity of the digital MicroFET3 dynamometer with Jamar values for maximal grip-force assessments in elderly and young adults and confirmed age-related changes in the maximal and the quality of grip-force performance using the MicroFET3 dynamometer in elderly people. Methods. Sixty-five healthy young (23.3±4.5 years) and 50 elderly (69.5±5.8 years) adults were recruited and asked to perform a validity test of the grip-force maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) using both the dominant and nondominant hands with a Jamar dynamometer and a MicroFET3 dynamometer. Results. A strong correlation of maximal grip-force measurements was found between the MicroFET3 dynamometer and Jamar standard dynamometer for both hands in all participants (p<0.05). Although, the results showed that a lower grip force was measured in both hands by the MicroFET3 dynamometer than with the Jamar dynamometer by 49.9%~57% (p<0.05), but confidently conversion formulae were also developed to convert MicroFET3 dynamometer values to equivalent Jamar values for both hands. Both dynamometers indicated age-related declines in the maximum grip-force performance by 36.7%~44.3% (p<0.05). We also found that the maximal hand-grip force values generated in both hand by the elderly adults were slower and more inconsistent than those of the young adults when using the MicroFET3 dynamometer. Conclusions. This study demonstrated that the digital MicroFET3 dynamometer has good validity when used to measure the maximal grip force of both hands, and conversion formulae were also developed to convert MicroFET3 dynamometer force values to Jamar values in both hands. Comparing with the Jamar dynamometer for measuring grip force, the MicroFET3 dynamometer not only indicated age-related declines in the maximum grip-force performance but also showed slower and more inconsistent maximal hand-grip strength generation by the elderly.

The purpose of this study was to design and to test the validity and reliability of an instrument to evaluate coaches' knowledge about the female athlete triad syndrome and their confidence in this knowledge. The instrument collects information regarding: knowledge of the syndrome, components, prevention and intervention; confidence of the coaches in their answers; and coach's characteristics (gender, degree held, years of experience in coaching females, continuing education participation specific to the syndrome and its components, and sport coached). The process of designing the questionnaire and testing the validity and reliability of it was done in four phases: a) design and development of the instrument, b) content validity, c) instrument reliability, and d) concurrent validity. The results show that the instrument is suitable for measuring coaches' female athlete triad knowledge. The instrument can contribute to assessing the coaches' knowledge level in relation to this topic.

Background: The Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life for Children (CP QOL-Child) questionnaires are condition-specific QOL measures for children with CP focusing on perspectives of children with CP on their quality of life, not on their physical difficulties. The perspectives of well-being are core concepts of quality of life. The CP QOL-Child has already been translated in Thai and the reliability is excellent. The validity after the translation has not been conducted and is required. therefore, it is needed to examine the validity to ensure the clinical practicality. Objective: To examine feasibility and concurrent validity of the CP QOL-Child (Thai version). Materials and Methods: Eighty-five primary caregivers of 4- to 12-year-old children and 65 children between 9- and 12-years-old, who passed the inclusion criteria, completed three questionnaires including the CP QOL-Child (Thai version), the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales, and the PedsQL 3.0 CP module (Thai version). Results: For feasibility of the CP QOL-Child, no missing items were found in any items for the child self-report. For parent proxy report, missing items were scattered and from 1.2% to 7.1%. For concurrent validity, according to the total scores of both versions, the self-report and the parent proxy, the correlation coefficients between CP QOL-Child and PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales were 0.23 to 0.25 meaning no or little correlations, at significance level of 0.05. The correlation coefficients between the CP QOL-Child and the PedsQL CP module were 0.38 to 0.49, meaning fair correlations, at significance level of 0.01. Conclusion: The feasibility of the CP QOL-Child (Thai version) was reportedly acceptable. The concurrent validity support that the CP QOL-Child may not measure the quality of life at the same constructs as the PedsQL. The CP QOL-Child asks the client’s perspectives of quality of life (QOL) while both PedsQL modules ask the client’s difficulties that might relate to QOL. Context:Smartphones are being used in a variety of practice settings to measure joint range of motion (ROM). A number of factors can affect the validity of the measurements generated. However, there are no studies examining smartphone-based goniometer applications focusing on measurement variability and error arising from the electromechanical properties of the device being used.Objective:To examine the concurrent validity and interrater reliability of 2 goniometric mobile applications (Goniometer Records, Goniometer Pro), an inclinometer, and a universal goniometer (UG).Design:Nonexperimental, descriptive validation study.Setting:University laboratory.Participants:3 physical therapists having an average of 25 y of experience.Main Outcome Measures:Three standardized angles (acute, right, obtuse) were constructed to replicate the movement of a hinge joint in the human body. Angular changes were measured and compared across 3 raters who used 3 different devices (UG, inclinometer, and 2 goniometric apps installed on 3 different smartphones: Apple iPhone 5, LG Android, and Samsung SIII Android). Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plots were used to examine interrater reliability and concurrent validity.Results:Interrater reliability for each of the smartphone apps, inclinometer and UG were excellent (ICC = .995–1.000). Concurrent validity was also good (ICC = .998–.999). Based on the Bland-Altman plots, the means of the differences between the devices were low (range = –0.4° to 1.2°).Conclusions:This study identifies the error inherent in measurement that is independent of patient factors and due to the smartphone, the installed apps, and examiner skill. Less than 2° of measurement variability was attributable to those factors alone. The data suggest that 3 smartphones with the 2 installed apps are a viable substitute for using a UG or an inclinometer when measuring angular changes that typically occur when examining ROM and demonstrate the capacity of multiple examiners to accurately use smartphone-based goniometers.

ObjectiveSeveral newly developed eHealth applications use online questionnaires to monitor asthma control. The Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) and Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) are two such commonly used questionnaires. These questionnaires are validated for use on paper. This study aims to validate them by assessing the agreement between online and paper versions of the ACQ and AQLQ.MethodsPatients (aged 18 years and older) from the Self-Management in Asthma Supported by Hospitals, ICT, Nurses and General Practitioners (SMASHING)-trial and Davos@home study were included in this study. Patients completed both the paper and online Dutch versions of the ACQ and AQLQ in a random order within a 2-week interval. Agreement between the different versions was assessed with paired t-tests, intraclass correlation coefficients and Bland–Altman plots.ResultsIn total 44 patients were eligible for analysis. The mean difference between the paper and online versions of the ACQ was 0.04 (p=0.40) and for the AQLQ it was 0.08 (p=0.06). The intraclass correlation coefficient scores were 0.94 for the ACQ and 0.95 for the AQLQ.ConclusionThe online versions of the ACQ and AQLQ show high levels of agreement with the paper versions and can therefore be safely used in eHealth applications to respectively monitor asthma control and quality of life.

This study aims to measure the validity and reliability construct satisfaction and quality of library services based on the user using LIBQUAL (library quality) method with a touch of marketing management. Data analysis by Cronbach Alpha and Pearson Correlation. The research was conducted in Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) by taking samples of visitors (students) at six (6) faculty libraries namely three (3) social faculty of 150 people and three (3) science faculty of 150 people. The sample is chosen by purposive sampling method. Reliability test results show that the five US, IC, LP, LQ and KU variables show high instrument reliability. The result of pearson correlation test shows that the measurement instrument used has problem validity on some question items. At minimum service item with correlation value smaller than 0.30 is IC2, IC5 and LQ5 so it is declared invalid. At service expectation items with correlation value smaller than 0.30 ie AS8, IC1, IC2, IC4, LP1, KU1, KU2, KU4, and KU8. And at present service items with correlation values smaller than 0.30 ie IC1, IC3, LP1, LP3, LQ1, LQ3, LQ4 and KU1.
