Texture control of grain-oriented silicon steel is the key factor to ensure the magnetic properties of the finished product. Nb-containing grain-oriented silicon steel with different slab reheating temperatures was hot rolled followed by single-stage or two-stage cold rolling, and the textures were also analyzed. In the single-stage cold rolling process, as the slab reheating temperature is reduced, the intensity of the rotating cube texture {100}<011> and Goss texture {011}<100> drops, and that of the {111}<112> texture increases. In the two-stage cold rolling process, with the decrease in the slab reheating temperature, the intensity of the {111}<112> texture increases from 4.958 to 6.809. At the same slab reheating temperature, the intensity of the rotating cube texture declines more significantly in the two-stage cold rolling process. Finally, two-stage cold rolling with the slab reheating temperature of 1220 °C is found to be more beneficial for the formation of a sharp Goss texture during the second recrystallization. The magnetic induction intensity B800 of the final product is 1.87T, and the iron loss P1.7/50 is 1.36 W/kg.

In this paper, non-silicon steel sheets were produced by both twin-roll casting method and conventional process. Orientation characteristics and texture evolution of the sheets during casting, cold rolling and recrystallization annealing were investigated for comparison. It was found that the subsurface of twin-roll casting strips are characterized by weak {100} orientation while the central layer by random orientation. Twin-roll casting process can decrease α fiber (//RD) and increase γ fiber (//ND) during cold rolling process. Consequently, the η fiber (//RD) favorable for magnetic properties of non-silicon steels is enhanced and the detrimental {111} component is suppressed after annealing.

0.2mm-thick high silicon steel thin sheet under 94% cold rolling reductions has been successfully produced by conventional rolling method. Texture evolution during hot rolling, cold rolling and final annealing as well as magnetic properties has been investigated with emphasis on the effect of finishing temperature. It is found that a favorable strong {001}<210> recrystallization texture and evidently improved magnetic properties can be obtained at the finishing temperature of 900°C, which is in contrast with relatively strong detrimental {111}<112> and weak {001}<210> recrystallization texture at the finishing temperature of 700°C. Effects of finishing temperature can be explained in terms of the cold rolling texture due to different texture morphology in hot bands.

Cold-rolling process is an important stage in Ti+P-IF steel manufacturing process, and cold rolling reduction is a main parameter. The research of recrystallization microstructure change and texture evolution of Ti+P-IF steel in cross cold rolling reductions has important meaning in study of high strong IF steel. In this paper, hot rolled Ti+P-IF steel in austenite was studied, cold rolling reduction was used as the effect factor, The study was carried out on the basis of microstructure observation, TEM analysis and texture measurement. The sizes of the grains within the recrystallization organizations were gradually diminished as the cold rolling reduction increased. At the same time, the second phase particles had showed an aggregated distribution, and there is a rule in the components of the texture that the Goss texture and the Rotating cube texture are transformed intoγtexture evolution rule.

Twinning behaviors in grains during cold rolling have been systematically studied in preparing ultra-thin grain-oriented silicon steel (UTGO) using a commercial glassless grain-oriented silicon steel as raw material. It is found that the twinning system with the maximum Schmid factor and shear mechanical work would be activated. The area fraction of twins increased with the cold rolling reduction. The orientations of twins mainly appeared to be α-fiber (<110>//RD), most of which were {001}<110> orientation. Analysis via combining deformation orientation simulation and twinning orientation calculation suggested that {001}<110> oriented twinning occurred at 40–50% rolling reduction. The simulation also confirmed more {100} <011> oriented twins would be produced in the cold rolling process and their orientation also showed less deviation from ideal {001}<110> orientation when a raw material with a higher content of exact Goss oriented grains was used.

Due to the requirement of magnetic properties of silicon steel sheets, producing high-precision size strips is the main aim of the cold rolling industry. The tapered work roll shifting technique of the six-high cold rolling mill is effective in reducing the difference in transverse thickness of the strip edge, but the effective area is limited, especially for a high crown strip after the hot rolling process. The six-high mill with a small work roll size can produce a strip with higher strength and lower thickness under a smaller rolling load. At the same time, the profile of the strip can be substantially improved. By advancing a well-established analytical method, a series of simulation analyses are conducted to reveal the effectiveness of a small work roll radius for the strip profile in the six-high cold rolling process. Through the analysis of flattening deformation and deflection deformation on the load, the change rule of the strip profile produced by the work roll with a small roll diameter can be obtained. Combined with theoretical analysis and industrial experiments, it can be found that the improvement effect of the small work roll radius on the profile of the silicon strip is as significant.

Silicon steels tend to develop edge cracks during cold rolling, which need to be removed and cause rupture of the steel in the rolling mill. Hence, it is necessary to understand the formation of edge cracks. The damage distribution and the initiation and propagation of edge cracks occur around the notch tip during cold rolling process was investigated by using GTN damage model. The damage parameters f0, fcand fFare determined by tension experiments and SEM observation. The influence of various rolling parameters on damage distribution and crack length was simulated by using ABAQUS. The numerical results show that the GTN damage model is available to prediction the initiation and propagation of edge cracks during rolling process. Parametric study carried out in this present work reveals that the possible occurrence of edge cracks is higher at larger reduction, higher friction coefficient, smaller roll radius and stronger unit tension. The simulation and experimental results have a good agreement .
