The article reviews the problem of landing on hard-to-reach and poorly developed territories, especially in the case of unmanned aerial vehicles. Various landing systems and approaches are analyzed, and their key advantages and disadvantages are summarized; afterwards, an approach with passive reflectors is considered. A formal definition is provided for the main factors relative to the accuracy analysis, and a model is presented. The way to improve the landing procedure, while simultaneously meeting various practical constraints, is analyzed; the results of numerical simulation are presented, followed by the detailed conclusion describing still remaining challenges and subjects for further research.

This article examines how unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones as they are more popularly known, have changed practices of Israeli warfare. In order to do so, the article proceeds in three steps. First, it traces the emergence and development of the Israeli UAV programme. Second, it examines the main factors that have enabled its expansion. Third, it turns to some of the main implications of UAVs for the way in which the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) wages war. The article argues that the combined tactical use of UAVs employed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) tasks has amounted to a strategic effect: by dramatically enhancing the field of perception, UAVs have enabled the IDF to better control the battle rhythm. UAVs in the Israeli context have enhanced the IDF’s operational sustainability, since one’s own casualties have been virtually eliminated and civilian casualties have been stretched out over, rather than concentrated in, time. Throughout the article, the changing character of the UAV is emphasized. To capture this change and to unravel the interactions among technology, warfare and broader societal forces, the article draws on actor-network theory.

Abstract: In this document we have focused on researching the so-called "Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" in order to find out what their main characteristics are and how they may affect the way we fight in the future. To achieve our goal, we have established several subjects relevant to any fighting system: design, manufacturing, tactical capabilities, logistics, recent experiences. After analyzing them we have come to a series of conclusions.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are present in our lives, and although they are mostly connected to military purposes, they are becoming more present in the commercial and civilian sector. Possible applications of UAVs in the commercial and civilian sector will open new possibilities for further research and development of UAVs. This movement can bring new investment and new jobs, but at the same time, it will influence the way some activities are being done now. The use of UAVs brings savings in the production cycles and improve current operations in various industrial sectors. The chapter gives a definition and explains different types and potential applications of unmanned aerial vehicles in the word as well as the potential economic impact of their development and use. In the second part, the chapter analyzes the application of drones in Turkey and Croatia. Although different in terms of their size and the number of inhabitants, both countries are at the same level in relation to UAV application. Applications in both countries are compared, and after that, a conclusion is drawn.

In the present day, unmanned aerial vehicles become seemingly more popular every year, but, without regulation of the increasing number of these vehicles, the air space could become chaotic and uncontrollable. In this work, a framework is proposed to combine self-aware computing with multirotor formations to address this problem. The self-awareness is envisioned to improve the dynamic behavior of multirotors. The formation scheme that is implemented is called platooning, which arranges vehicles in a string behind the lead vehicle and is proposed to bring order into chaotic air space. Since multirotors define a general category of unmanned aerial vehicles, the focus of this thesis are quadcopters, platforms with four rotors. A modification for the LRA-M self-awareness loop is proposed and named Platooning Awareness. The implemented framework is able to offer two flight modes that enable waypoint following and the self-awareness module to find a path through scenarios, where obstacles are present on the way, onto a goal position. The evaluation of this work shows that the proposed framework is able to use self-awareness to learn about its environment, avoid obstacles, and can successfully move a platoon of drones through multiple scenarios.

Nowadays unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are applied for solution numerous remote sensing tasks. They give a new opportunites for conducting environmental monitoring and give images with a very high resolution. Unmanned aerial vehicles are applied for solution numerous agricultural problems. They give a detail picture of fields. Unmanned aerial vehicles are used to help increase crop production. With technology constantly improving, imaging of the crops will need to improve as well.Digital images obtained by unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) can be used in forestry, they are used for environmental monitoring, plant health assessment and analysis of natural disasters. Unmanned aerial vehicles are also used for mining, they are applied for mapping deposit sites, exploring for oil and gas, surveying mines.Laser gyroscope is an essential component of a drones flight control system. Laser gyroscopes provides orientation control of drone and essential navigation information to the central flight control systems. Laser gyroscopes provide navigation information to the flight controller, which make drones easier and safer to fly. Laser gyroscope is one of the most important components, allowing the drone to fly smooth even in strong winds. The smooth flight capabilities allows us to get images with high precision.Nowadays the main function of gyroscope technologies is to improve the unmanned aerial vehicles flight capabilities. It was described a structure and main characteristics of laser gyroscopes. It was noted, that laser gyroscope is operated on the principle of the Sagnac effect. Sagnac effect is a phenomenon encountered in interferometry that is elicited by rotation. It were described main advantages and disadvantages of laser gyroscopes. A comparative analysis of mechanical and laser gyroscopes was carried out too.It also was noted, that laser gyroscopes are applied in different areas, such as: inertial navigation systems, aircraft, ships, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and satellites. Nowadays laser technology is developed further. There are all prerequisites for improving the precision and other technical characteristics of laser gyroscopes.

The trajectory following performed by unmanned aerial vehicles has several advantages that can be taken to several applications, going from package delivery to agriculture. However, this involves several challenges depending on the way the following is performed, particularly in the case of trajectory following by using computer vision. In here we will show the design, the simulation and the implementation of a simple algorithm for trajectory following by using computer vision, this algorithm will be executed on a drone that will arrive into a wished point.

Unmanned aerial vehicles are used for research in many areas: photography and video shooting and so on. The development of unmanned aerial vehicles is directly related to the development of airspace. Today, a mathematical model is required that would describe the movement of such an aircraft with the purpose of predicting, correcting and optimizing it. The paper presents the results of a study of the controlled motion of an unmanned multi-rotor aircraft using the example of a quadrocopter. The study included the development of a law governing the apparatus and its modeling in the form of a software package. The structure of the autopilot, its main contours and parameters of these circuits are considered. After determining the necessary characteristics of the autopilot, modeling of the controlled motion of the quadrocopter in the execution environment was carried out.

Last January, the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union produced an estimate that, by the year 2035, the drones' sector will create up to 100,000 new jobs and, in addition, will have an economic impact of more than ten billion euros per year. This chapter takes its cue precisely from the central importance of unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, and tries to sum up their future. Indeed, despite the enormous success of drones over the decades, many are the criticisms related to unmanned aircraft on board. The first section aims at outlining an historical framework, while the second section analyses the impressive role played by drones within the counterterrorism policy of the US presidency, with particular regard to Barack Obama's mandate. The third section applies a SWOT type analysis to UAVs, taking into account both their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the fourth section investigates the human factor problem within UAVs, which was inspired by Dr. Giovanni Miranda's PhD thesis.
