Problematic Internet Use (PIU) has of late come to the major attention of researchers of risky behaviours. For parents and teachers in turn, the various pathological forms of Internet use have become more and more noticeable. In recent years, the operationalisation of the term PIU has also been discussed and attempts to measure its various phenomena have been made. In our study, we used the quantitative method—a diagnostic survey designed on the basis of a tool of the Supreme Audit Office and Scientific and Academic Computer Network (Naukowa i Akademicka Sieć Kompureowa NASK), The survey was conducted in the first half of 2017 in Poland, among 3569 adolescents (median 16, SD = 1.28). The purpose of the research was to investigate the scale of PIU among Polish youths. For most young people, PIU is a major social problem. The majority also declare that more than half of their friends have problems with using electronic media (smartphones and the Internet in particular). On the basis of the data collected, it is estimated that 60% of adolescents use media in a functional way, whereas 40% of young electronic media users show visible PIU symptoms, of which 5% do so at a destructive level (all symptoms). Gender does not co-occur with PIU; however, family structure (where both parents are present), the setting of rules for the use of electronic media, and the place of residence are all protective factors. There is a need for constantly improved tools for measuring PIU, as well as preventive programs focused on developing self-control and helping young people understand their own emotions.

The complexity of the Internet has increased the requirement of learner's self-cognition, self-control and self-responsibility when using Internet to learn. Thus, responsibility of e-learner to decide on the validity, reliability and meaningfulness of the information steadily increased. This situation has caused internet related issues such as problematic Internet use, Internet addiction, cognitive overload, disorientation, continuous partial attention and information pollution on the Internet. The purpose of this study is to provide practical strategies for e-learners' Internet related current issues. This study presented in three steps. At the first step, problematic Internet use and addiction, cognitive overload, disorientation, continuous partial attention and Internet information pollution was discussed as Internet related current issues of e-learners. At the second step, increase of Internet literacy, Internet search strategies, using computational knowledge engines, and benefit from Semantic Web presented as practical strategies for e-learners. At the end of study related conclusions provided.

BACKGROUND Problematic internet use (PIU) and the psychological variables related to subjective well-being among people with disabilities has received very little attention in scientific literature. OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to observe whether people with disabilities experience PIU like that of young people without disabilities; to relate PIU to psychological distress and problems in young disabled people, and to determine whether these problems are similar to or different from those experienced by young people without disabilities. METHODS PIU was evaluated using the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) and psychological distress was evaluated using the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE-OM). The sample comprised 1,794 young people (408 university students with disabilities and 1,386 university students without disabilities). RESULTS The group of university students with disabilities showed less PIU than the non-disabled students, but the worst scores in variables referencing psychological discomfort were found among those students with disabilities who also had PIU. CONCLUSIONS PIU is related to bigger problems in disabled people for whom, with regard to problems in social relationships or the probability of self-harm, it represents a higher risk than for people without disabilities.

Problematic internet use (PIU) or problematic internet use is a maladaptive pleasure in using the internet excessively without self-control. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for the level of problematic internet use held by high school students. To achieve this goal quantitative methods with cross-sectional design were used in this study. A total of 336 students from junior and senior high school were selected using cluster sampling technique. The research data was taken using the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS2) instrument. The results showed that the average PIU level owned by students was in the medium category. Education and age levels also have a close correlation with the high level of PIU that students have. In addition there are internal and external factors that can cause students to be exposed to PIU. Thus, it is necessary to provide both preventive and curative counseling services that can help students formulate more potential activities in supporting students’ academic and social development.

With the growing concern about excessive Internet use and accompanying adverse psychosocial outcomes, unveiling the underlying mechanisms related to problematic Internet use has become an important topic to study. The present study examines the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and psychosocial well-being through problematic Internet use. An attempt has also been made to investigate whether negative affect and self-control are useful in explaining the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and problematic Internet use or not. The data was derived from a questionnaire survey of 246 postgraduate management students from a leading business school (approximately 48% females) and structural equation modelling technique was used for data analysis. The results suggest that higher mindfulness is associated with lower problematic Internet use, and the relationship is partially mediated by negative affect and self-control. Problematic Internet use partially mediate the relationship between mindfulness and depression/loneliness (indicators of psychosocial well-being). The study outcomes may prove helpful in empirical understanding of previously unidentified mediating mechanisms through which mindfulness may impact problematic Internet use, which further influences psychosocial well-being. Limitations and future directions, as well as potential implications, are also discussed.
