Vehicles are highly mobile nodes; therefore, they frequently change their topology. To maintain a stable connection with the server in high-speed vehicular networks, the handover process is restarted again to satisfy the content requests. To satisfy the requested content, a vehicular-content-centric network (VCCN) is proposed. The proposed scheme adopts in-network caching instead of destination-based routing to satisfy the requests. In this regard, various routing protocols have been proposed to increase the communication efficiency of VCCN. Despite disruptive communication links due to head vehicle mobility, the vehicles create a broadcasting storm that increases communication delay and packet drop fraction. To address the issues mentioned above in the VCCN, we proposed a multihead nomination clustering scheme. It extends the hello packet header to get the vehicle information from the cluster vehicles. The novel cluster information table (CIT) has been proposed to maintain several nominated head vehicles of a cluster on roadside units (RSUs). In disruptive communication links due to the head vehicle’s mobility, the RSU nominates the new head vehicle using CIT entries, resulting in the elimination of the broadcasting storm effect on disruptive communication links. Finally, the proposed scheme increases the successful communication rate, decreases the communication delay, and ensures a high cache success ratio on an increasing number of vehicles.

AbstractIn this paper, the performance of a novel multilevel signaling based on Manchester code namely four-level Manchester Coding (4-MC) technique is investigated for next generation high-speed optical fiber communication links. The performance of 4-MC is studied and compared with conventional Manchester modulation and four-level pulse amplitude modulation (4-PAM) formats in terms of receiver sensitivity, spectral efficiency and dispersion tolerance at the bit rate of 40 Gb/s. The bit error rate (BER) calculation model for the proposed multilevel scheme has also been developed. The calculated receiver sensitivity and the chromatic dispersion tolerance at the BER of 10–9 of the proposed scheme are −22 dBm and 67.5 ps/nm, respectively. It is observed that, 4-MC scheme is superior in comparison to 4-PAM by 3.5 dB in terms of receiver sensitivity in back-to-back scenario. Therefore, the proposed scheme can be considered as an alternative to current 4-PAM system.

SpaceWire is a point-to-point bit shipping protocol for high-speed data communication links and networks providing equipment compatibility and seamless component reusability. It has found great application in many space missions reducing the development cost, offering architectural flexibility and improving reliability. This chapter delves into the standard describing the SpaceWire, focusing on the lower levels that play a key role in the electromagnetic behavior of the system and concern cable assemblies, shielding, bonding, and grounding. Findings regarding emissions affecting spacecraft components are presented as well as other EMC issues that have an impact on the system performance. Recent developments and upcoming updates to the standard are also presented and discussed.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a world of connected networks and modern technology devices, among them vehicular networks considered more challenging due to high speed and network dynamics. Future trends in IoT allow these inter networks to share information. Also, the previous security solutions to vehicular IoT (VIoT) much emphasize on privacy protection and security related issues using public keys infrastructure. However, the primary concern about efficient trust assessment, authorized users malfunctioning, and secure information dissemination in vehicular wireless networks have not been explored. To cope with these challenges, we propose a trust enhanced on-demand routing (TER) scheme, which adopts TrustWalker (TW) algorithm for efficient trust assessment and route search technique in VIoT. TER comprised of novel three-valued subjective logic (3VSL), TW algorithm, and ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol. The simulated results validate the accuracy of the proposed scheme in term of throughput, packet drop ratio (PDR), and end to end (E2E) delay. In the simulation, the execution time of the TW algorithm is analyzed and compared with another route search algorithm, i.e., Assess-Trust (AT), by considering real-world online datasets such as Pretty Good Privacy and Advogato. The accuracy and efficiency of the TW algorithm, even with a large number of vehicle users, are also demonstrated through simulations.

High-speed rotary communication links exhibit high complexity and require challenging assembly tolerances. This article investigates the use of optical wireless communications (OWC) for on-axis rotary communication scenarios. First, OWC is compared with other state-of-the-art technologies. Different realization approaches for bidirectional, full-duplex links are discussed. For the most promising approach, a monolithic hybrid transmitter-receiver lens is designed by ray mapping methodology. Ray tracing simulations are used to study the alignment-depended receiver power level and to determine the effect of optical crosstalk. Over a distance of 12.5 m m , the lens achieves an optical power level at the receiver of − 16.2 dBm to − 8.7 dBm even for misalignments up to 3 m m .

Vehicular ad-hoc networks are one of the most popular applications of Ad-hoc networks, where networks are formed without any sort of physical connecting medium and can be formed whenever required. It is an area in networks that has enjoyed a considerable amount of attention for quite some time. Due to the highly mobile environment where these networks find their usability, it can be understood that there are a lot of problems with respect to maintaining the communication links between the moving vehicular nodes and the static infrastructures which act as the access points (AP) for these moving vehicular mobile nodes (MN). The coverage area of each AP is limited and as such, the connections need to be re-established time and again between the MNs and the closest accessible AP. Handoff is the process involved here, which deals with selecting the optimal APs as well as the best network available for data transmission. In this article, the authors compare various handoff methods and categorize them based on the different approaches they follow.
