Electric vehicles (EVs) could be used to address the issues of environmental pollution and the depletion of non-renewable energy resources. EVs, which are energized by a battery storage system, are becoming attractive because they keep the environment clean. Furthermore, the cost of EVs is becoming cheaper. Thus, EVs will become a significant load on utility distribution system in the future. EV chargers play a significant role in the expansion of EVs. The input current of an EV charger with a high total harmonic distortion (THD) and a high ripple distortion of the output voltage can impact battery life and battery charging time. Furthermore, the high cost and large size of the chargers are considered other issues in EV development. This work presents the complete design process of a universal EV charger with a special focus on its control algorithms. In this regard, a novel control algorithm based on the integration of voltage-oriented control (VOC) and the sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (SPWM) technique is proposed to ensure effective Levels 1, 2, and 3 battery charging. A simulation of the universal EV charger was conducted and assessed in MATLAB–Simulink. Moreover, a laboratory prototype was constructed with a TMS320F28335 digital signal processor (DSP) programmed as the controller to validate its operation and performance. The findings show that the proposed charger is able to provide a controllable and constant charging voltage for a variety of EVs, with an input current of low total harmonic distortion (THD) and an almost unity power factor.

This paper presents performance features of Symmetric and Asymmetric Cascaded Multilevel inverter. Both the Phase shifted and level shifted multicarrier pulse width modulation (MCPWM) technique are used in MLI. The best harmonic performance is improved by Level-shifted multicarrier modulations technique . The objective of this work to propose MCPWM Technique for multilevel inverter with equal and unequal DC sources. The Performances indices like Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), reduction of switches and number of DC Sources is considered. An appropriate method to achieve the MC modulation technique is also presented in this paper.

Nowadays, the matrix converter (MC) has become the prominent power converter. Its unique qualities like single-stage ac to ac conversion, bidirectional power flow, sinusoidal response, unity power factor, and no need for dc-link makes it superior among all power converters. This archival literature investigates the various pulse width modulation (PWM) methods and proposed a novel pulse width modulation (PWM) method named Time Equivalent space vector pulse width modulation. In this article this novel modulation method is compared with exiting carrier-based pulse width control and space vector control methods for a 3 phase to 3 phase matrix converters. Simulation model is built in Matlab and comparative analysis based on total harmonic distortion (THD) will be given for different methods. Simulation results revealed that total harmonic distortion (THD) of Time Equivalent space vector PWM is least so this novel method is best and more efficient in comparison to others.

This paper presents comparative study of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and its individual harmonic contents without grid and with grid for Diode clamped multi level inverter (DCMLI) and Flying capacitor clamped multilevel inverter (FCMLI) based Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) employing PI and Fuzzy logic controller (FLC). Simple method to control for a variable speed wind energy conversion system with a DFIG is connected to the grid through a diode rectifier and a diode clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI). The DC-link voltage is controlled through a DC-DC boost converter to keep the DC voltage at constant value. Inverter is controlled by sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique, which supplies power to the grid. The THD and its harmonic content are studied for different wind speeds. DFIG fed flying capacitor multi level inverter (FCMLI) based WECS connected to load as well as grid. FCMLI is controlled through sinusoidal pulse width modulation. Voltage and current harmonics are studied. The results of both multilevel inverters are compared. It shows that the level of harmonic content of two types of multilevel inverters working at different wind speeds indicates that Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for DCMLI has given best results.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the operation and design of symmetrical and asymmetrical multilevel inverter structures with reduced number of switching devices. In this study, the term of conventional inverter is defined as a single cascaded inverter. Specifically, the inverter operates in three complete loops and only produces 2-level and 3-level of output voltages. Usually, cascaded structure suffers from the high total harmonic distortion. Thus, by considering multilevel structure of inverter, low total harmonic distortion reduction and voltage stress reduction on switching devices can be archived. Sinusoidal pulse width modulation and modified square pulse width modulation are used as modulation techniques in switching schemes of the designed multilevel inverters. The findings indicate that, the designed multilevel structure cause low total harmonics distortion at the output voltage. Furthermore, the asymmetrical structure is producing the same output voltage levels with reduced number of switching devices compared to the symmetrical structure is experimentally confirmed. The findings show that the total harmonic distortion for 7-level (symmetrical) and 9-level (asymmetrical) are 16.45% and 15.22%, respectively.

This paper proposes a switching control for a cascaded H-bridge inverter structure with reduced switches which is used to improve the THD performance of a single phase five level CHB MLI. The multi level inverter is simulated for the conventional carrier overlapping APOD and the proposed carrier overlapping APOD Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) switching control technique. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltages are observed for both PWM control techniques. The performance of the symmetric CHB MLI is simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK. It is observed that the proposed carrier overlapping APODPWM provides output with relatively low THD as compared to the conventional carrier overlapping APODPWM.

The aim of this paper to presents a comparative analysis of Voltage Source Inverter using Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation Method, Third Harmonic Injection Pulse Width Modulation Method and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation Two level inverter for Induction Motor. In this paper we have designed the Simulink model of Inverter for different technique. An above technique is used to reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) on the AC side of the Inverter. The Simulink model is close loop. Results are analyzed using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) which is for analysis of the Total Harmonic Distortion. All simulation are performed in the MATLAB Simulink / Simulink environment of MATLAB.
