In the past decade, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection risk and the prevalence of infected cases in the younger generation have increased in Hong Kong. To promote HIV prevention and control, it is critical to understand the situation of HIV-related knowledge, stigma, and awareness among the younger adults, especially college students. 810 college students (mean age = 20.63 ± 2.05) have participated in the current survey. In mediation pathway analysis, the results show that participants’ greater knowledge about HIV is associated with higher awareness, and this relationship is partially mediated by the knowledge-related increase in accepting attitudes toward the people with HIV, but not via reducing stigma. Our findings provide an updated profile of HIV-related knowledge, attitude and awareness among college students in Hong Kong. In addition, we have clarified the mediating role of acceptance in the relationship between knowledge and awareness and pinpointed the importance of knowledge education and workshops to promote acceptance of people with HIV. Insights were provided for tailoring health-promotion programs to reduce risky sex and prevent HIV infection on college campuses.

Background & Objectives: Lifestyle diseases emerged as an important public health problem during the past few decades due to unhealthy practices adopted by the people and a definite increase in life expectancy as a result of improved living standards and control over most of the infectious diseases. These diseases account for a very major chunk of morbidity and mortality at the global level. However, they can be prevented if healthy lifestyles are adopted in early life. With this objective in mind, we started a program under the name of AASH at SKIMS. Material & Methods: One thousand three hundred and sixty nine college students were selected from different colleges of Srinagar and they were given a pretested close-ended proforma to assess the level of their knowledge about some of the lifestyle diseases. Then a series of lectures were given and their knowledge was again checked at the end by using the same proforma. Results: It was found that there was a 12,16, 65 and 12 percent increase in the level of awareness about the basic knowledge about Hypertension, Obesity, CAD and Diabetes respectively. Break up wise the impact level was also significant. Conclusion: The results showed that the level of knowledge before and after the intervention had increased very significantly. Hence such awareness programmes are needed more and more.J Med Sci.2009;12(2):58-60.

Seventy-two college students were divided into three groups: Button Push-Speech (BP-S), Speech-Button Push (S-BP), and Control. BP-S subjects pushed one of two buttons on signal for 8 min. During the last 4 min, depression of the criterion button caused a buzzer to sound. After the button-push task, subjects spoke spontaneously for 30 min. During the last 20 min, the buzzer was presented contingent upon each disfluency. S-BP subjects were run under the same procedures, but the order of button-push and speech tasks was reversed. Control subjects followed the same procedures as S-BP subjects, but no buzzer signal was presented at any time. Both S-BP and BP-S subjects emitted significantly fewer disfluencies during the last 20 min (Conditioning) than during the first 10 min (Baserate) of the speaking task. The frequency of disfluencies for Control subjects did not change significantly from Baserate to Conditioning. In none of the three groups did the frequency of pushes on the criterion button change significantly from minute to minute throughout the 8-min button-push session.

Background: Ethical issues have been raised about using the psychological autopsy approach in the study of suicide. The impact on informants of control cases who participated in case-control psychological autopsy studies has not been investigated. Aims: (1) To investigate whether informants of suicide cases recruited by two approaches (coroners’ court and public mortuaries) respond differently to the initial contact by the research team. (2) To explore the reactions, reasons for participation, and comments of both the informants of suicide and control cases to psychological autopsy interviews. (3) To investigate the impact of the interviews on informants of suicide cases about a month after the interviews. Methods: A self-report questionnaire was used for the informants of both suicide and control cases. Telephone follow-up interviews were conducted with the informants of suicide cases. Results: The majority of the informants of suicide cases, regardless of the initial route of contact, as well as the control cases were positive about being approached to take part in the study. A minority of informants of suicide and control cases found the experience of talking about their family member to be more upsetting than expected. The telephone follow-up interviews showed that none of the informants of suicide cases reported being distressed by the psychological autopsy interviews. Limitations: The acceptance rate for our original psychological autopsy study was modest. Conclusions: The findings of this study are useful for future participants and researchers in measuring the potential benefits and risks of participating in similar sensitive research. Psychological autopsy interviews may be utilized as an active engagement approach to reach out to the people bereaved by suicide, especially in places where the postvention work is underdeveloped.

This research discussed the issue of the development of learning module based computer technology especially a powerpoint. This module is intended to help students receive the material that was delivered by lecturer especially design structured matter which currently learning module media shaped print and the contents of the text are form module so the university students ca not see the material . Based on these problems was built a module learning computer technology with a powerpoint . The reason the manufacture of the module was structured design material with a picture and a symbol of in designing a system so it needs to ease student visualiasi received mater learning. Method of development this module use the model ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). Results in this research validated by 2 ( two ) experts namely the people of material said 80% module very reasonable used without revision and media experts said 84% module very reasonable used without revision while results trial by college students by means of pre-test and post-test.
