A three-dimensional (3D) finite-element model (FEM), including quasi-static stamping, sequential coupling for electromagnetic forming (EMF) and springback, was established to analyze the springback calibration by electromagnetic force. Results show that the tangential stress at the sheet bending region is reduced, and even the direction of tangential stress at the bending region is changed after EMF. The springback can be significantly reduced with a higher discharge voltage. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experiment results, and the simulation method has a high accuracy in predicting the springback of quasi-static stamping and electromagnetic forming.

In this article the application possibilities of welding simulation for vice-frame components are discussed. A three dimensional finite element model has been developed to dynamically simulate the welding process. The investigations focus on the simulation of the model construction and the welding effect on distortions and its stress. Comparisons of experimental and numerical results show good agreement and that the simulation method is reasonable. The vice-frame is a casting component that comes from a goods wagon bogie. So the procedure of the vice-frame simulation can be used for more complex structures like the side-wall, front-wall, roof, floor plate, and so on. It can help that optimize the welding process and improve the welding quality.

An understanding of conditions that trigger the loosening of bolted joints is essential to ensure joint reliability. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model of a typical bolted joint is developed, and a new simulation method is proposed to quantitatively identify the critical transverse force for initiating loosening. This force is used to evaluate the anti-loosening capacity of bolted joints. Using the proposed simulation method, the effects of factors affecting critical loosening are systematically studied. It is found that the preload, frictional coefficients at the thread and the bearing surfaces, clamped length, and fit tolerance mainly affected loosening. When the preload and friction coefficients are increased, and the clamped length and fit tolerance are reduced, loosening is inhibited. Experiments are performed to demonstrate the reliability of the results. Finally, a suggestion is proposed to improve the design guideline VDI 2230 for bolted joints, which considers the requirement of avoiding loosening under vibrational loading.

We study the extreme long-time behavior of the metastable phase of the three-dimensional Ising model with Glauber dynamics in an applied magnetic field and at a temperature below the critical temperature. For these simulations, we use the advanced simulation method of projective dynamics. The algorithm is described in detail, together with its application to the escape from the metastable state. Our results for the field dependence of the metastable lifetime are in good agreement with theoretical expectations and span more than 50 decades in time.

A three dimensional FE modeling of the laser surface modification is presented. The design capabilities of the ANSYS (11) software were employed for this purpose. The model calculates the dimensions of melting zone and heat affected zone. Model simulations are compared with experimental results that showed very good agreement. A one dimensional model in V.B language was presented too. The model based on conduction of heat in one dimension neglecting the other losses of heat. The results of VISUAL BASIC were compared with experimental results which showed a very good agreement. The two methods were compared with each other to showing which method have a good prediction compared with experimental results in calculating of fusion zone and heat affected zone "HAZ".

Electromagnetic forming is a kind of processing technology that use lorentz force to make rapid prototyping of metal workpiece, which can significantly improve the metal forming performance, and it is expected to become an emerging technology that alternative to traditional machining to process light alloy materials. Based on the understanding the basic structure of the electromagnetic coupling on the basis of physical process of electromagnetic forming, this article adopt ANSYS sequential coupling method to simulate the electromagnetic coupling process of electromagnetic structure, and analysis of tube electromagnetic forming and plate of workpiece in the process of free bulging deformation behavior. The solenoid coil tubing have an axis of symmetry due to bulging, and it’s electromagnetism load and constraint has symmetry, so its formability is uniform in hoop direction. When the plank free bulge, the distribution of the electromagnetic force caused by the flat spiral coil is not uniform, and the artifacts accelerate fastest in the part of the radius of coil 1/2, but the center area of the workpiece’s forming height is highest.

The three-dimensional geometric model of the fringe-beam frame had been built based on the frame structure of a light truck. In order to optimize the frame structure, the finite element model of the frame and the suspension system were set up. Considering the influence of suspension on frame dynamic performance, the modal properties of the frame model was analyzed in the commercial analysis program ANSYS, using two different methods. Based on the experiments, it was verified that combining MPC184 elements and spring elements Combin14 is a better way to simulate suspension compared to using spring finite elements only. Furthermore, the combined simulation results coincide with experimental modal analysis results, which were conducted thereafter. Subsequently, the frame stress-strain distribution rules and dynamics response were calculated under the random road spectrum excitation, and the frame dynamic parameters were obtained. This study provides some theoretical bases for frame structure improvement, and proposes an optimum method to simulate suspension. The results have direct significance in ensuring the stability, comfort and reliability of a light truck frame.

Experimentally obtained temperatures of a heated coiled platinum wire in low Reynolds Number cross-flow were compared with a three-dimensional finite element (finite volume) model. The calculated average wire temperature was in good agreement with experimentally obtained values with deviations close to experimental uncertainty bounds at temperatures between 530K and 815K. The model predicted a temperature variation along each coil, with the lowest temperatures along the leading edges of the coil and the higher temperatures at the trailing edges. The rate of heat generated at the wire surface from catalytic reactions was found for the ignition of lean propane/oxygen/nitrogen mixtures. We studied the coiled catalytic wire as part of our efforts to ignite very lean homogeneous air-fuel mixtures in transportation engines under conditions approaching Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI).

The deformation of sheet metal in the continuous flexible forming (CFF) process is complex and the formed result is affected by many factors. In this paper, the finite element model of CFF was founded and the forming processes of spherical parts were simulated with the software ABAQUS. The interaction between transversal deformation and longitudinal deformation in the CFF process is analyzed. Based on results of numerical simulation and forming tests, the process parameters of CFF is revised, and formed surface is measured by three dimensional sensing system, the measured results indicate the precision of formed parts are satisfactory.

Prestressed reinforced concrete containment is an important part among the safety-related buildings, and the presressing technology is widely used in containment construction which is best suited to the cylindrical-type containment topped by a dome. It has been recognized that traditional methods for analysis of containment prestressing system have been unable to satisfy more accurate design, research and monitoring requirements. Prestressing tendons are placed complexly in containment structure, especially near the major equipment hatch area, which is the three-dimensional curve and the friction loss must be considered. Firstly, containment structure and the distribution of prestresseing system are introduced briefly. Furthermore, the calculating process of prestressing tendons losses is put forward in details which take the major equipment hatch as an example. Solid65 element and constitutive model of concrete in ANSYS are introduced in details, and the characteristic of simulating prestressing tendons in ANSYS is analyzed. Based above study, finite element model of the prestressed structure is built based on some concrete containment by using ANSYS program, the prestressing effect on concrete containment is put forward. The numerical results show that most of the design pressure is beared by the prestressing system under the design-basis pressure condition, and the simulation method is effective with a high accuracy which agrees well with stress tests performed on-site in some operating NPPs such as LINGAO PHASE II.
