The constant development of modern technologies allows the creation of new and, above all, mobile devices supporting people with disabilities. All work carried out to improve the lives of people with disabilities is an important element of the field of science. The work presents matters related to the anatomy and physiology of hearing, imaginative abilities of blind people and devices supporting these people. The authors elaborated a prototype of an electronic device that supports the orientation of blind people in the environment by means of sound signals. Sounds are denoted to present to a blind person a simplified map of the depth of space in front of the device user. An innovative element of the work is the use of Kinect sensor, scanning the space in front of the user, as well as a set of developed algorithms for learning and generating acoustic space, taking into account the inclination of the head. The experiments carried out indicate the correct interpretation of the modeled audible signals, and the tests carried out on persons with impaired vision organs demonstrate high efficiency of the developed concept.

Assistive technology has an important role in helping people with disabilities, so what this technology can offer goes beyond simple help limits, is that it opens up broad prospects for a new lifestyle. Those with special needs have high concerns, strong wills, solid intentions and creative minds, which Allah Almighty blessed them to encourage and satisfy their hearts. In the context of preface of the book “Nakt al-Humyān fī Nukat al-Umyān, (biographies of notable blind people, with a section on the causes of blindness).” Its writer Khalīl ibn Aybak al-afadī (1296–1363) pointed out a saying, which has high value, deep impact, and significance tribute to people with special needs, where he said: “it's rare to see a blind man being a dull, inefficient, inactive but blind person only can be found as an intelligent, smart and genius. “This research's title is “Assistive Technology for People with Special Needs and its Role in enriching Arabic Grammar and Qur'anic Studies (Abd All āh ibn al-usayn ‘Ukbarī as a model).” We will address issues of people with special needs specially Abd Allāh ibn al-Husayn ‘Ukbarī as a model as he was blinded in his youth as he was hit by chickenpox. The research seeks to discuss the saying: “Although Al-‘Ukbarī was a handicapped person, but he had outstanding efforts and contributions in enriching Arabic grammar and Quranic studies.” It (research) aims to explain the concept of assistive technology and people with special needs, also to know our duty towards them and to mention the most important and preferred effects of Al-‘Ukbarī. As well as clarifying the most prominent features of Al-‘Ukbarī's curriculum in his grammatical works and highlighting his efforts in enriching Arabic grammar and Quranic studies.

Smart static and dynamic obstacle walking stick with EMF detector is an upgraded smart stick designed for blind people for optimal navigation and electrical safety.  An advanced blind stick prototype that allows visually challenged people to navigate walking paths and identify electronic gadgets with ease using modern technologies is hereby developed. The blind stick is integrated with ultrasonic sensor along with an EMF detector. This prototype first uses ultrasonic sensors to sense obstacles ahead using ultrasonic waves. On sensing obstacles, the sensor directs this data to the microcontroller. The microcontroller then processes this data and examine if the obstacle is close enough. If the obstacle is not that close the circuit does nothing. If the obstacle is close the microcontroller sends a signal to sound a buzzer. One more feature is that it allows the blind to detect the presence of EMF (electromagnetic field/electromagnetic waves) in the region he/she is, if there is, the microcontroller also sends a signal to a vibration motor (i.e. the output is in form of vibration), and if otherwise, the circuit does not trigger and thus, the vibration motor does nothing. The results obtained from the measurements have shown that this project work is optimally working and indeed operative.

The concept of inclusive education goes beyond considering the needs of people with disabilities; it refers to the process of recognizing the students' learning needs and to act according to such needs. People with visual limitations do not necessarily require more attention and dedication than other people; they only need to be initially guided and to have accessible information. Thus, one of the main challenges of universal education is to generate inclusive and assistive educational technologies, which can be used for the teaching and learning of people with disabilities. In this chapter, the development and assessment of haptic-enabled virtual reality learning systems for the education of non-sighted people are presented and discussed. These virtual systems represent the research work conducted to promote the accessible education of blind people and to determine the effectiveness of virtual touch in the education of blind people.

Power Quality (PQ) brings more challenges to the large- scale and medium scale industries because in the recent years most of them use high efficiency and low energy devices which cause vulnerable PQ disturbances at Point of Common Coupling (PCC). In this paper, the measurement at different times during load condition and analysis of all types of disturbances occurred has been done. When large rated equipments run, the disturbance (harmonics, RMS variations, and switching transients) levels are very high and poor power factor (PF) has also appeared. Due to this poor PF, reactive power consumption in load increases and accordingly total power increases. An electronic device such as LED lights, fluorescent lamps, computers, copy machines, and laser printers also disturb the supply voltage. We are very well known that every PQ problem directly or indirectly must affect economically. Many researchers have investigated PQ audit for over three decades. However these studies and analysis have been done only at simulation level. Hence, the PQ analyzer based study is required to find out the PQ issues at distribution feeders. It will be a valuable guide for researchers, who are interested in the domain of PQ and wish to explore the opportunities offered by these techniques for further improvement in the field of PQ. This paper gives a brief Real Time PQ measurement using PQ analyzer HIOKI PW3198 at Distribution Feeders and it gives an idea to the researcher to optimize problems-related to PQ with respect to the high rated and low rated electric machinery of different feeders at PCC level. This study further extends to analyze the grid disturbances and looks forward to the optimization methods for each individual PQ disturbance.
