We propose a novel fault-diagnosis approach for rolling bearings by integrating variational mode decomposition (VMD), refined composite multiscale dispersion entropy (RCMDE), and support vector machine (SVM) optimized by a sparrow search algorithm (SSA). Firstly, VMD was selected from various signal decomposition methods to decompose the original signal. Then, the signal features were extracted by RCMDE as the input of the diagnosis model. Compared with multiscale sample entropy (MSE) and multiscale dispersion entropy (MDE), RCMDE proved to be superior. Afterwards, SSA was used to search the optimal parameters of SVM to identify different faults. Finally, the proposed coordinated VMD–RCMDE–SSA–SVM approach was verified and evaluated by the experimental data collected by the wind turbine drivetrain diagnostics simulator (WTDS). The results of the experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach not only identifies bearing fault types quickly and effectively but also achieves better performance than other comparative methods.

To solve the problem of micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope noise, this paper presents a variational mode decomposition (VMD) method based on crow search algorithm. First, the signal was decomposed by variational mode decomposition for optimization of crow search algorithm (CSA-VMD) method. The parameters required by the VMD method (penalty parameter α and decomposition number K) are given by the crow search algorithm, and then the signal is decomposed into the superposition of multiple subsignals, called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The sample entropy (SE) corresponding to each IMF is then obtained. By calculating the sample entropy, the noise signal can be divided into pure noise part, mixing part, and temperature drift part. Second, Savitzky–Golay smoothing denoising (SG) is used to filter the mixed noise signal to eliminate the influence of noise. Third, for the filtering of the drift part, the least square support vector machine optimized by the crow search algorithm (CSA-LSSVM) was used to filter, so as to reduce the effect of temperature drift. Finally, the processed signal is reconstructed to achieve the goal of denoising. Through the results, it can be found that the optimized VMD and LSSVM using CSA algorithm can achieve more effective denoising. After using the method proposed in this paper, the angular random walk value is 1.1175    ∗  10−4°/h/√Hz, and the bias stability is 0.0017°/h. Compared with the original signal, the two signals are optimized by 98.1% and 98.2%, respectively. It can be seen from the experimental results that the proposed CSA-VMD method, SG method, and CSA-LSSVM method can effectively eliminate noise effects.

Rolling bearings are fundamental elements that play a crucial role in the functioning of rotating machines; thus, fault diagnosis of rolling bearings is of great significance to reduce catastrophic failures and heavy economic loss. However, the vibration signals of rolling bearings are often nonlinear and nonstationary, resulting in difficulty for feature extraction and fault recognition. In this paper, a hybrid method for multiple fault diagnosis of rolling bearings is presented. The bearing vibration signals are decomposed with the improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (ICEEMDAN) to denoise and extract nonlinear entropy features. The nonlinear entropy features are further processed to select the more discriminative fault features and to reduce feature dimension. Then a multi-class intelligent recognition model based on ensemble support vector machine (ESVM) is constructed to diagnose different bearing fault modes as well as fault severities. The effectiveness of the proposed method is assessed via experimental case studies of rolling bearings under multiple operational conditions (i.e., speeds and loads). The results show that our method gives better diagnosis results as compared to some existing approaches.

Abstract The penalty parameter (c) and kernel parameter (g) contained in Support Vector Machine (SVM) cannot be adaptively selected according to actual samples, which results in low classification accuracy and slow convergence speed. A novel sparrow search algorithm was used to optimize the parameters of SVM classifier. Firstly, an improved ensemble empirical mode decomposition (MEEMD) method was used to decompose non-stationary and nonlinear vibration signals, and the eigenmode function (IMF) was obtained by removing abnormal signals from the original signals through permutation entropy, and the sample entropy was extracted. Finally, a fault diagnosis model based on SSA-SVM is constructed, and the high recognition rate and effectiveness of this method are proved by simulation and experimental data analysis.

It is difficult to extract the fault signal features of locomotive rolling bearings and the accuracy of fault diagnosis is low. In this paper, a novel fault diagnosis method based on the optimized variational mode decomposition (VMD) and resonance demodulation technology, namely GNVRFD, is proposed to realize the fault diagnosis of locomotive rolling bearings. In the proposed GNVRFD method, the genetic algorithm and nonlinear programming are combined to design a novel parameter optimization algorithm to adaptively optimize the two parameters of the VMD. Then the optimized VMD is employed to decompose the collected vibration signal into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and the kurtosis value of each IMF is calculated, respectively. According to the principle of maximum value, two most sensitive IMF components are selected to reconstruct the vibration signal. The resonance demodulation technology is used to decompose the reconstructed vibration signal in order to obtain the envelope spectrum, and the fault frequency of locomotive rolling bearings is effectively obtained. Finally, the actual data of rolling bearings is selected to testify the effectiveness of the proposed GNVRFD method. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed GNVRFD method can more accurately and effectively diagnose the fault of locomotive rolling bearings by comparing with other fault diagnosis methods.

The vibration signals resulting from rolling bearings are nonlinear and nonstationary, and an approach for the fault diagnosis of rolling bearings using the quantile permutation entropy and EMD (empirical mode decomposition) is proposed. Firstly, the EMD is used to decompose the rolling bearings vibration signal, and several IMFs (intrinsic mode functions) spanning different scales are obtained. Secondly, aiming at the shortcomings of the permutation entropy algorithm, a new permutation entropy algorithm based on sample quantile is proposed, and the quantile permutation entropy of the first few IMFs, which contain the main fault information, is calculated. The quantile permutation entropies are accordingly seen as the characteristic vector and then input to the particle swarm optimization and support vector machine. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the experimental data. The analysis results show that the proposed approach can effectively achieve fault diagnosis of rolling bearings.

Vibration signals resulting from railway rolling bearings are nonstationary by nature; this paper proposes a hybrid approach for the fault diagnosis of railway rolling bearings using segment threshold wavelet denoising (STWD), empirical mode decomposition (EMD), genetic algorithm (GA), and least squares support vector machine (LSSVM). The original signal is first denoised using STWD as a prefilter, which improves the subsequent decomposition into a number of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) using EMD. Secondly, the IMF energy-torques are extracted as feature parameters. Concurrently, a GA is employed to optimize the LSSVM to improve the classification accuracy. Finally, the extracted features are used as inputs for classification by the GA-LSSVM. Actual railway rolling bearing vibration signals are used to experimentally verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the novel method is effective and accurate for fault diagnosis of railway rolling bearings.

The working environment of wind turbine gearboxes is complex, complicating the effective monitoring of their running state. In this paper, a new gearbox fault diagnosis method based on improved variational mode decomposition (IVMD), combined with time-shift multi-scale sample entropy (TSMSE) and a sparrow search algorithm-based support vector machine (SSA-SVM), is proposed. Firstly, a novel algorithm, IVMD, is presented for solving the problem where VMD parameters (K and α) need to be selected in advance, which mainly contains two steps: the maximum kurtosis index is employed to preliminarily determine a series of local optimal decomposition parameters (K and α), then from the local parameters, the global optimum parameters are selected based on the minimum energy loss coefficient (ELC). After decomposition by IVMD, the raw signal is divided into K intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), the optimal IMF(s) with abundant fault information is (are) chosen based on the minimum envelopment entropy criterion. Secondly, the time-shift technique is introduced to information entropy, the time-shift multi-scale sample entropy algorithm is applied for the analysis of the complexity of the chosen optimal IMF and extract fault feature vectors. Finally, the sparrow search algorithm, which takes the classification error rate of SVM as the fitness function, is used to adaptively optimize the SVM parameters. Next, the extracted TSMSEs are input into the SSA-SVM model as the feature vector to identify the gear signal types under different conditions. The simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed method is feasible and superior in gearbox fault diagnosis when compared with other methods.

Background: In order to improve the efficiency of fault treatment of mining motor, the method of model construction is used to construct the type of kernel function based on the principle of vector machine classification and the optimization method of parameters. Methodology: One-to-many algorithm is used to establish two kinds of support vector machine models for fault diagnosis of motor rotor of crusher. One of them is to obtain the optimal parameters C and g based on the input samples of the instantaneous power fault characteristic data of some motor rotors which have not been processed by rough sets. Patents on machine learning have also shows their practical usefulness in the selction of the feature for fault detection. Results: The results show that the instantaneous power fault feature extracted from the rotor of the crusher motor is obtained by the cross validation method of grid search k-weights (where k is 3) and the final data of the applied Gauss radial basis penalty parameter C and the nuclear parameter g are obtained. Conclusion: The model established by the optimal parameters is used to classify and diagnose the sample of instantaneous power fault characteristic measurement of motor rotor. Therefore, the classification accuracy of the sample data processed by rough set is higher.
