Frailty predisposes older persons to adverse events, and information and communication technologies can play a crucial role to prevent them. CAPACITY provides a means to remotely monitor variables with high predictive power for adverse events, enabling preventative personalized early interventions. This study aims at evaluating the usability, user experience, and acceptance of a novel mobile system to prevent disability. Usability was assessed using the system usability scale (SUS); user experience using the user experience questionnaire (UEQ); and acceptance with the technology acceptance model (TAM) and a customized quantitative questionnaire. Data were collected at baseline (recruitment), and after three and six months of use. Forty-six participants used CAPACITY for six months; nine dropped out, leaving a final sample of 37 subjects. SUS reached a maximum averaged value of 83.68 after six months of use; no statistically significant values have been found to demonstrate that usability improves with use, probably because of a ceiling effect. UEQ, obtained averages scores higher or very close to 2 in all categories. TAM reached a maximum of 51.54 points, showing an improvement trend. Results indicate the success of the participatory methodology, and support user centered design as a key methodology to design technologies for frail older persons. Involving potential end users and giving them voice during the design stage maximizes usability and acceptance.

BACKGROUND Frailty is a highly prevalent condition that predisposes older persons to adverse events. According to the WHO, there is a pressing need to develop comprehensive community-based approaches, and to introduce interventions to prevent functional decline. In this regards, Information and Communication Technologies can play a crucial role to promote ageing in place, for instance by collecting fresh and periodic information on variables associated to poor health outcomes. The CAPACITY technological ecosystem tackles this problem, providing a means to remotely monitor variables with high predictive power for adverse events (ie, gait speed, muscle power and involuntary weight loss) that enable personalized early interventions aimed to prevent disability. OBJECTIVE This study aims to present a novel mobile app designed using a participatory methodology to be used by frail older persons to interact with the services offered by the CAPACITY technological ecosystem, Furthermore, this research work pursues evaluating its usability, user experience and acceptance. METHODS Usability, User Experience and acceptance were assessed at 3 different sampling points during 6 months of continued use of CAPACITY to receive a multicomponent intervention to prevent/reverse frailty. Usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS); User Experience using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ); and acceptance with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and a customized quantitative questionnaire. Data were collected at baseline (recruitment), and after 3 and 6 months of use. RESULTS Forty-six participants used the technology for six months at their homes, and 9 dropped out during the follow-up, leaving a final sample of 37 subjects. All of them completed the questionnaires about usability, user experience and acceptance evaluation in the intermediate and final sample collection points; 25 subjects completed the whole evaluation set at baseline. Usability, measured as SUS reached a maximum averaged value of 83.68 after 6 months of use; no statistically significant values have been found to demonstrate that usability improves with use. User experience, measured as UEQ, obtained averages scores higher or very close to 2 in all 6 categories. Finally, acceptance in terms of TAM reached a maximum of 51.54 points, showing an improvement trend. CONCLUSIONS Results indicate the success of the participatory methodology, and support User Centered Design as the key methodology to follow when designing technologies for frail older persons. Involving potential end users and giving them voice during the design stage maximizes usability and acceptance.

Abstract Background Questionnaires are commonly used tools in telemedicine services that can help to evaluate different aspects. Selecting the ideal questionnaire for this purpose may be challenging for researchers. This study aims to review which questionnaires are used to evaluate telemedicine services in the studies, which are most common, and what aspects of telemedicine evaluation do they capture. Methods The PubMed database was searched in August 2020 to retrieve articles. Data extracted from the final list of articles included author/year of publication, journal of publication, type of evaluation, and evaluation questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results Fifty-three articles were included in this study. The questionnaire was used for evaluating the satisfaction (49%), usability (34%), acceptance (11.5%), and implementation (2%) of telemedicine services. Among telemedicine specific questionnaires, Telehealth Usability Questionnaire (TUQ) (19%), Telemedicine Satisfaction Questionnaire (TSQ) (13%), and Service User Technology Acceptability Questionnaire (SUTAQ) (5.5%), were respectively most frequently used in the collected articles. Other most used questionnaires generally used for evaluating the users’ satisfaction, usability, and acceptance of technology were Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ) (5.5%), Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction (QUIS) (5.5%), System Usability Scale (SUS) (5.5%), Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) (5.5%), and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) (3.5%) respectively. Conclusion Employing specifically designed questionnaires or designing a new questionnaire with fewer questions and more comprehensiveness in terms of the issues studied provides a better evaluation. Attention to user needs, end-user acceptance, and implementation processes, along with users' satisfaction and usability evaluation, may optimize telemedicine efforts in the future.

Dengan mengimplementasikan konstruk-konstruk TAM yang meliputi PU (Perceived Usefulness), PEOU (Perceived Ease of Use), ATU (Attitude Toward Using), BITU (Behavioral Intention to Use) dan AU (Actual Use) maka dapat dipastikan akan meningkatkan tingkat kenyamanan user experience melalui interface yang baik dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan pengguna informasi.

Penggunaan internet di Indonesia khususnya di instansi pendidikan terutama perguruan tinggi yaitu mengandalkan internet untuk mencari kumpulan informasi dan referensi terkait dengan mata kuliah. Salah satu unit di sebuah perguruan tinggi yang menggunakan internet dengan memanfaatkan sistem informasi berbasis website adalah perpustakaan Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ). Website berperan penting untuk instansi sebagai acuan website yang baik salah satunya dapat dinilai dari sisi User Interface (UI) yang memiliki tampilan menarik dan User Experience (UX) untuk meningkatkan kenyamanan pengguna website. Dalam pengembangan front end website perpustakaan menggunakan metode User Centered Design (UCD), framework bootstrap, bahasa pemrograman HTML5, CSS dan Javascript. Pada tahap evaluasi design dalam bentuk wireframe menggunakan metode System Usability Scale (SUS) mendapatkan skor 83, pengujian black box untuk mengukur fungsionalitas website mendapatkan hasil sesuai dengan skenario, pengujian User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) untuk mengukur tingkat kenyamanan pengguna website mendapatkan hasil positif.

The two core variables of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, are integrated into the Electronic Services Acceptance Model (E-SAM).

Social Network Sites (SNS) have very rapidly become part of the daily reality of Internet users in recent years. Firms also use social networks as a two-way communication with their current and potential customers. This exploratory work means to analyze if Internet users’ gender influences the behavior of using social networks. There is a reason for this. Despite Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) acceptance and use being more frequent in men, according to the previous literature, in line with different surveys on the subject, social networks are more used by women. The authors, therefore, analyze in this chapter if there are gender differences in the constructs of technology’s classic models, such as the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) and the TPB (Theory of Planned Behavior). They use a sample of 1,460 university students.

The study aims to uncover the influence of classroom technologies (i.e. a variety of audio-visual and online equipment) on an individual’s (i.e. student’s) learning attitude. The antecedents that were considered relevant in the early post implementation phase were: (1) experience with Information and Communication Technologies, (2) enhanced communications, (3) learner independence and (4) ease of technology use. The original concept for the research was derived from Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which has been a source of numerous studies exploring user attitude towards technology. The outcome indicated a positive and significant relationship between learner independence and individual learner attitude; enhanced communications and individual learner attitude and ease of technology use and individual learner attitude. However the relationship between ICTs experience and individual learner attitude was non-significant. The study outcome implicated that use of classroom technologies, in the introduction stage, does increase with the degree of perceived and encountered ease of use and extended capacity for self-directed learning.

This chapter addresses the issue of tablets acceptance for studying. An experiment was carried out to test the effects of specific studying tasks experienced by students with no previous experiences with tablets on the perceived usability and usefulness of tablets. Students had to perform a high-compatible task (i.e. navigation/reading task) and a low-compatible task (i.e. writing task) for tablets. Subjective measures of usability, usefulness and use intention were designed to be more specific to the type of task than the classical measures used in the Technology Acceptance Model approach (Davis, 1989). Participants rated their answers before and after performing the tasks with a tablet. The results showed that the perceived usability and usefulness of tablets increased after the high-compatible task while their decreased with the low-compatible task. The findings stressed the need to consider the real user experience and to use more task-oriented measures to investigate the acceptance of mobile devices for studying.
