This study presents a simple methodology for the evaluation of gait with accelerometers, for rapid and simple application, in which we employ current balance tests in clinical practice (Timed Up and Go, Chair Stand Test and Six-Minute Walk Test). The aim was to determine whether the accelerometric valuation of gait can detect alterations in balance. The sample of this cross-sectional research, made during the months of May and June 2018, was composed of 145 healthy adult women (x = 63.8 ± 8.41 years), from the city of Ourense (Spain). They walked with a triaxial accelerometer at the fourth lumbar vertebra for a distance of 20 m. The test was repeated three times, and the mean of the three measurements was used in the analysis. There was a reduction in the values of acceleration recorded along all three of the axes and in the root mean square as the age increased. This reduction was very significant for the minimum values registered along the vertical and transverse axes, and for the maximum values along the mediolateral axis. Only the maximum values of the vector module demonstrated significant differences among the three age groups. A regression model allowed us to identify the values that give more information on the Timed Up and Go Test, namely: the maximum values of the root mean square and the mediolateral axis. An exhaustive analysis of the vertical and mediolateral axes and the vector module allows for the detection of early alterations in the automatic gait pattern.

AbstractObjectiveThere is an increasing concern of anaemia in Japanese women, but no national trend data has existed to date. We analysed long-term national trends of anaemia in adult women.DesignSecondary analyses of 15 consecutive cross-sectional nationwide surveys conducted during the period 1989–2003. Analyses were based on 5-year intervals (1989–1993, 1994–1998, 1999–2003).SettingJapan.SubjectsThe subjects included the National Health and Nutrition Survey of Japan (NHNS-J) population. Analyses were based on 50 967 non-pregnant/non-lactating women aged 20 years and over, with complete data sets. We stratified subjects into six age groups (20–29 years, 30–39 years, 40–49 years, 50–59 years, 60–69 years and 70+ years), and three age groups (20–49 years, 50–69 years, 70+ years) for analyses on residential areas (metropolitan, cities and towns).ResultsDecreases in trends of mean haemoglobin values (intravenous) were significant in all age groups. Changes in the prevalence of anaemia were significant only in women aged 30–39 and 40–49 years. Anaemia (haemoglobin < 12.0 g dl−1) increased from 16.8% to 20.6% in women aged 30–39 years, and from 20.2% to 26.9% in women aged 40–49 years, respectively. Prevalence was highest in women aged 70 years and older in all times, but no significant change was observed.ConclusionsHaemoglobin values have declined significantly in all ages in the last 15 years. Anaemia was especially significant in women aged 30–39 years and 40–49 years. Our findings suggest that a large number of young women in Japan are at risk of anaemia, so continuous monitoring and controlling efforts of this trend are needed.

This study develops an understanding of the relationships among personal accomplishment, resilience, and teaching multiple school subjects role conflict (TMSS-RC) among Irish post-primary, multi-subject teachers. A theoretically informed conceptual framework was developed to explain the relationships among personal accomplishment, resilience, and the sub-domains of TMSS-RC: status conflict, schedule conflict, and energy expenditure. Participants included 259 post-primary teachers across Ireland who were responsible for teaching physical education and at least one other school subject concurrently. Participants completed a 46-item, cross-sectional survey consisting of a demographics questionnaire, the TMSS-RC scale, the personal accomplishment subscale from the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Educators Survey, and the 10-item version of the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale. Concurrent confirmatory factor analysis was first used to confirm the psychometric quality of the hypothesised factor structure. Results indicated that the hypothesised model was a good fit for the data. Structural equation modelling was then used to examine and verify the hypothesised relationships of the conceptual model. Results supported the model with mediation, which showed good model fit: C3(129) = 174.97, p = 0.004, χ 2/df = 1.36; root mean square error of approximation = 0.044 (90% confidence interval = 0.031, 0.057; p = 0.770), standardised root mean square residual = 0.058; non-normed fit index = 0.974; comparitive-fit index (CFI) = 0.978. Collectively, results indicate that as teachers’ levels of personal accomplishment and resilience increase, their experiences of TMSS-RC decrease. This suggests that stress as a result of teaching multiple school subjects concurrently can be reduced with an increase in teachers’ perceived levels of personal accomplishment and resiliency.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the sensory performance of static and dynamic balance regulation and the risk of falling in physically active adult and elderly women.METHOD: This is a non-probabilistic and intentional cross-sectional study. Thirty four women (51.90±15.84 years) enrolled in a gym attended. The population evaluated was stratified in age groups: 20-59 years (n=18) and 60 69 years (n=16). The gait was evaluated by the Time Up and Go (TUGs), Time Up and Go manual (TUGm), and Time Up and Go cognitive (TUGc), the balance by the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) and Body Balance Test (TEC). RESULTS: Student’s t-test showed significant differences between age groups for comorbidities: hearing, vision, vertigo, labyrinthitis (p≤0.05). Comparatively, adult women showed better performance indices than older women in physical tests. According to the standards of the tests, there was no risk of falling for any group. However, regardless of age, a detailed examination of the TEC test showed a deficit in the sensory regulation of the visual, vestibular and somatosensory systems of the static and dynamic balance of fallers and non fallers (p≤0.05). The logistic regression analysis indicated the interoceptive regulation of the dynamic balance as a predictor of fall (p≤0.05). CONCLUSION: Deficits in the vestibular and somatosensory systems gradually potentiate the risk of falls in adult and elderly women, even if they remain physically active.

ABSTRACTBackground:The WHOQOL-BREF, a generic quality of life (QoL) instrument, has been widely used clinically and for research on older populations. However, its measurement equivalence/invariance (ME/I) has not been well examined for the elderly (≥ 65 years) across some different demographics.Methods:The data were derived from a cross-sectional study with a convenience sampling design in Taiwan. We enrolled 244 elderly participants: men = 143 (58.6%); educational level ≤ primary school = 121 (49.6%). The ME/I was examined using multiple group confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) across gender and educational level.Results:The fit indices were satisfactory for the configural models of gender and educational level (standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0.0742 and 0.0770; root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0.0655 and 0.0686; comparative fit index [CFI] = 0.953). In addition, MGCFAs showed that ME/I was supported across gender (ΔSRMR = 0.001 to 0.019; ΔRMSEA = −0.003 to 0.001; ΔCFI = −0.003 to 0.000) and educational level (ΔSRMR = 0.002 to 0.006; ΔRMSEA = −0.002 to 0.004; ΔCFI = −0.007 to 0.000).Conclusion:The WHOQOL-BREF Taiwan version is appropriate for combined use and for comparisons in older people across gender and different educational levels.

Background and Objectives: Balance problems are the main cause of falls and fall-related complications in the elderly. The objective of this study was to investigate the balance in old people residing in nursing homes using clinical assessments. Methods: A total of 54 people participated in this cross-sectional study. Timed Up and Go (TUG) was used to assess balance regarding mobility impairments. The modified Clinical Test Of Sensory Interaction on Balance (CTSIB) was also used to assess balance regarding sensory problems. This test was used in 4 conditions: standing with eyes open on a firm surface, standing with eyes closed on a firm surface, standing with eyes open on a compliant foam, and standing with eyes closed on a compliant foam. Data analysis was done by SPSS V. 18 software. Results: The mean time for the completion of TUG was significantly higher than standard scores in all age groups (P<0.05). Postural sway during standing with eyes closed on the ground, eyes open and eyes closed on the foam was more than standing with eyes open on the ground (P<0.001). Postural sway in standing with eyes closed on the foam was more in comparison with standing with eyes closed on the ground and eyes open on the foam (P<0.001). Conclusion: Elderly people living in nursing homes had poorer motor skills to maintain balance. They also showed greater dependence on visual and sensory systems to maintain balance.

Objective: SARS-CoV-2, emerged in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan in the People’s Republic of China affects children as well as all age groups. The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical features and outcomes of pediatric cases with COVID-19 in the first month of the epidemic in Turkey. Method: This single center cross-sectional study was conducted in University of Health Sciences Dr Behçet Uz Child Diseases and Pediatric Surgery Training and Research Hospital during the period of March 11 – April 20, 2020. Demographic, epidemiological and clinical data were collected from medical records. All patients were confirmed by real time reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction. Chidren were classified as asymptomatic, mild, moderate, severe, and critically ill patients. Results: In this study, we reported the clinical characteristics of a case series involving 30 chilren with COVID-19 aged from 23 days to 16 years. Twenty-nine (96.7%) patients had confirmed contact with family members for COVİD-19. The majority of patients were asymptomatic (50%) or had mild symptoms (26.7%). Fever (46.6%) and cough (33.3%) were the most common symptoms. Conclusion: Our study indicated that COVID 19 in children exhibited less severe symptoms and had better outcomes

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of cholelithiasis in the city of Lahore and its surrounding area. Material and Methods: This study was conducted at Shalamar Medical and dental college Lahore and data for this study was collected from different hospitals of Lahore and the duration of this study was from 2019 to 2021. The participants of this study were from both genders’ male and female from of the age of 10 years to 80 years, and the sample size for this study was 483 and 1583. The main focus of our study was to examine the occurrence of Cholelithiasis surgical in the duration of our study. A questionnaire was used to analyses the occurrence of gall stone, and also the sex, age and dietary habits of the patients. Results: In the results of this study the frequency of gall stones were observed 4.0% in males and 12.0% in females and the percentage of occurrence of gall stones in both these genders were 1% to 3.3%. the high occurrence rate of gall stones in the months are May and November, in both these months the observation of gall stones in these were very high. Both the genders were divided into two main age groups in which male age group were from 10 years to 78 years and the females age group were from 11 years to 80 years. The ideal age for the occurrence of gall stones in male were 45 years to 59 years and in females were 3 years to 44 years respectively. Conclusions: In the conclusion of this study, we examine that the overall occurrence of gall stones in both the genders were 7.01%, but at same the time occurrence rate in the females were very high as compared to the male which were 1% in males and 3.3% in females. Purpose The objectives of this study were to utilise the XCT-2000 pQCT scanner to determine the mean values and the reproducibility of in vivo total, trabecular, and cortical volumetric bone measurements at distal and diaphyseal sites of the radius and the tibia, as well as calf muscle and subcutaneous fat areas, in healthy pre- and postmenopausal women. Methods Twenty-nine women (14 premenopausal and 15 postmenopausal) were recruited to participate in this study. Distal and diaphyseal sites of the radius (at 4% and 20% of the length of the radius) and tibia (at 4%, 38%, and 66% of the length of the tibia) were examined. Results The root mean square coefficient of variation for measurements at the distal tibia gave the most favorable reproducibility values for total (1.5%) and trabecular (1.6%) density, whereas the diaphyseal tibia showed the most favorable reproducibility value for cortical density (0.3%). The root mean square coefficients of variation for measurements of muscle and fat cross-sectional areas at the calf were 0.6% and 0.7%, respectively. At the distal tibia, the mean values for total ( P < .05) and trabecular ( P < .01) density were significantly lower in postmenopausal women than in premenopausal women. Conclusions The data presented here indicate that XCT-2000 pQCT scans at the tibia provide highly reproducible measurements of total, cortical, and trabecular bone as well as muscle and fat cross-sectional areas. Furthermore, significant differences in volumetric bone measurements between healthy pre- and postmenopausal women were evident only at the distal tibia, suggesting that this site warrants further study.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to examine the factor structure, model-based reliability, measurement invariance and concurrent validity of the five-item version of the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) in Norwegian adolescents. Methods: An initial pilot study was carried out using a sample of 77 fifteen year olds. For the main analyses, a sample of 2140 Norwegian adolescents was used who participated in the cross-sectional Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) study. All participants were asked to complete a questionnaire. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses found support for the one-factor structure of the five-item version of the MAAS. Acceptable model fit was found in both the pilot sample (χ2=6.48, df=5, p=0.26; root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA]=0.06; comparative fit index [CFI]=0.99; standardised root mean square residual [SRMR]=0.03) and the HBSC sample (χ2=27.1, df=4, p<0.001; RMSEA=0.05; CFI=0.99; SRMR=0.01). The model-based reliability of the scale was good (ω=0.84 and ω=0.81, respectively). Scalar measurement invariance was established for sex, age and material affluence. Finally, the five-item MAAS displayed concurrent validity through moderate negative associations with health complaints ( r=−0.44; p<0.001) and school stress ( b=−0.44, p<0.001), and a positive moderate correlation with life satisfaction ( r=0.26; p<0.001). Conclusions: The five-item version of the MAAS is an adequate measure of mindfulness in Norwegian adolescents. Due to the brief nature of the scale, it can easily be included in epidemiological and clinical studies with an interest for trait mindfulness. The five-item MAAS may therefore have great potential to facilitate more knowledge about the role of mindfulness in adolescent health.

One cause of risk factors for ischemic stroke is high triglycerides in the blood due to excessive fat intake. This study aims to determine the picture and the relationship between BMI (Body Mass Index) and blood triglyceride (TG) levels in adult women. The research method used was analytic survey with Cross Sectional approach. The sample used is adult women aged 26-45 years who live in Cihanjuang Rahayu Village by using purposive sampling technique. BMI is measured by comparing the results of height calculation with body weight. Triglycerides are taken after fasting for 10 hours and analyzed in a laboratory by Lab personnel. Univariate analysis result showed the majority of respondents had an excess BMI of 73.3%, normal triglyceride levels of 93.9%. The results of the correlation test analysis using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation 0.119 with p-value = >0.05. This show that there is no significant relationship between BMI and triglyceride levels. In the future studies it is necessary to compare between male and female sexes and different age groups in order to provide a complete picture if BMI with triglycerides. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran dan hubungan antara indeks massa tubuh dan kadar trigliserida (TG) darah pada wanita dewasa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survei analitik dengan pendekatan Cross Sectional. Sampel yang digunakan yaitu wanita dewasa yang berusia 26-45 tahun yang tinggal di Desa Cihanjuang Rahayu dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Indeks massa tubuh diukur dengan membandingkan hasil perhitungan tinggi badan dengan berat badan. Trigliserida diambil setelah puasa selama 10 jam dan dianilisa dilaboratorium oleh petugas Lab. Hasil analisis univariate menunjukkan mayoritas responden memiliki indeks massa tubuh berlebih sebanyak 73,3%, kadar trigliserida normal sebanyak 93,9%. Hasil analisis Uji korelasi menggunakan Pearson Product-Moment Correlation 0.119 dengan p-value = >0.05. Hal ini menunjukkan tidak ada hubungan yang bermakna antara indeks massa tubuh dengan kadar trigliserida dalam darah. Pada penelitian selanjutnya perlu membandingkan antara jenis kelamin pria dan wanita serta kelompok usia berbeda agar dapat memberikan gambaran utuh tentang indeks massa tubuh dengan Trigliserida.
