This paper examines consumers’ behaviours towards mobile advertising alerts offered by branded mobile apps in the fashion industry. While consumer-driven factors have attracted much attention, little research has examined the impact of data-driven mobile advertising alerts on consumer continuance intention for branded mobile apps. This paper analyses the combined influence of consumer beliefs, data-driven mobile advertising alerts, and perceived value on mobile advertising acceptance, intention to repurchase, and recommendation behaviour towards branded mobile apps on social media. In total, 340 valid responses from Spanish customers of an online fashion outlet, all social media users, who make their purchases from the company exclusively through its branded mobile application, were analysed to test the hypotheses, using structural equation modelling. The results showed that mobile advertising acceptance, intention to repurchase, and recommendation behaviour are driven by the perceived value of the branded mobile app. Perceived value is determined by the usefulness of the branded mobile app, attitudes towards mobile advertising alerts, and irritation. Mobile advertising content (informativeness and credibility) improves attitudes towards mobile advertising alerts. Ease of use increases perceived usefulness, while perceived control decreases irritation. Managerial implications are provided.

BACKGROUND Both the number of smokers making quit attempts and the number of smokers successfully quitting has been falling over the past years. Past studies have shown that smokers with high self-efficacy and motivation to quit have an increased likelihood of quitting and staying quit. Consequently, further research on strategies which can improve the self-efficacy and motivation of smokers seeking to quit could lead to substantially higher cessation rates. Some studies have found that gamification can positively impact cognitive components of behavioural change, including self-efficacy and motivation. However, the impact of gamification in the context of smoking cessation and mobile health has been sparsely investigated. OBJECTIVE The study aims to examine the association between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and frequency of use of gamification features embedded in smoking cessation apps on the self-efficacy and motivation to quit of smokers. METHODS Participants were assigned to use one of two mobile apps for a duration of four weeks. Online questionnaires were provided to participants before app usage, two weeks after and four weeks after they started using the app. Gamification was quantitatively operationalized based on Cugelman’s gamification framework and concepts from the technology acceptance model. Mean values of perceived frequency, ease of use and usefulness of gamification features were calculated at mid-study and end-study. Two linear regression models were performed to investigate the impact of gamification on self-efficacy and motivation to quit. RESULTS 116 participants completed the study. Mean self-efficacy increased from 37.38 to 42.47 points and motivation to quit increased from 5.94 to 6.32 points after app usage. “Goal setting” was perceived to be the most useful gamification feature whilst “sharing” was perceived to be the least useful. Participants self-reported that they used the progress dashboards the most often whilst the sharing feature the least often. Average perceived frequency of gamification features was statistically significantly associated with change in self-efficacy (β=3.35, 95% CI: 0.31 to 6.40) and change in motivation to quit (β=0.54, 95% CI: 0.15 to 0.94) between baseline and end-study. CONCLUSIONS Gamification embedded into mobile apps can have positive effects on the self-efficacy and motivation to quit of smokers. The findings of the study can provide important insights for tobacco control policy makers, mobile app developers and smokers seeking to quit.

The advent of smartphones revolutionized and took the market to a new level. Now a days, majority of internet users spend their maximum time on smartphones, specifically on mobile apps. The emergence of numerous apps in smartphones with games features has brought about a different trend, mobile app gamification. The emerging popularity of smartphone technologies and their mobile apps have led various companies to engage their consumers with mobile apps, specifically through gamification. Therefore, companies gain consumers attention integrate their mobile marketing into their overall marketing strategy. This study explores the domain of consumer engagement and their intentions through the gamification of mobile apps. The research focuses on how mobile app gamification drives consumer engagement and their intentions drawing upon SDT and TAM. Using survey method data collected from 270 respondents, data analysis was done with structure equation modeling (SEM). The findings assert that various features of gamification of mobile apps (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and enjoyment) have a significant influence on consumer engagement. However, convenience was unexpectedly found not to be significantly associated with consumer engagement. Additionally, consumer engagement was found to be associated to smartphone user's intentions to use gamification of mobile apps. The results of present study have theoretical and practical implications.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to report a study investigating the impact of personal innovativeness in information technology (PIIT) and social influence on user continuance intention toward mobile commerce (m-commerce) in the USA. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was conducted among undergraduate and graduate mobile users in a regional university. Structural equation modeling procedures were deployed to analyse 323 valid data points. Findings – The study found that among well-educated m-commerce users, user personal innovativeness as measured by PIIT and perceived usefulness, the determinants of initial adoption, remain as strong determinants of user continuance intention. PIIT also remains as the antecedent of perceived ease of use. Social influence has changed the pattern of influence on continuance intention. Research limitations/implications – This study is unable to investigate m-commerce user expectations and satisfaction levels. The small and convenient sample does not offer guarantee of the findings. Practical implications – M-commerce providers should pay adequate attention to personal innovativeness, since it affects mobile user willingness and capability to welcome and adapt to new services and features. They should always utilize social channels to gather feedback, to distribute new changes or features, and to exert positive influence. Originality/value – This study is one of the few examining the effect of PIIT in a post-adoption context and confirms its long-term psychological influence on continuance intention toward m-commerce. This study is also one of the initial to use discursive power perspective to study social influence on continuance intention in the mobile context.

Many small-medium size enterprises (SMEs) are adopting social media platforms to contact their potential customers and provide their services. The impact of this adoption on the SME's performance has been roughly examined by researchers in the Middle East region particularly Palestine. Constructs and variables of three models (TOE, TAM, TPB) were used as potential predictors of social media adoption including technological, organizational, environmental context, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude toward technology, and capability to control technology. Furthermore, the influence of this adoption on SMEs performance was also tested. A closed question questionnaire was used to gather the data, and simple regression analysis was used to examine the hypotheses.  Findings revealed that all of the seven independent construct/variables except the technological context positively influence SME's adoption of social media, and social media adoption in turn positively influence SME's performance. The findings may be beneficial to SMEs's managers and the authorities as well to facilitate the use of social media by SMEs.

This study investigates the key antecedents affecting consumers’ continuance intention toward bike-sharing services in China. The theoretical framework clarifies the role of perceived value and trust in a service provider in enhancing customer’s continuance intention toward bike-sharing services. Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived enjoyment are considered vital factors in forming perceived value and trust in a service provider. Financial risk and privacy risk serve as inhibitors to consumers’ continuance intention. Our research model is validated using data from 224 bike-sharing consumers in China. Both perceived value and trust in a service have a significant impact on consumers’ continuance intention. However, financial risk significantly affects customer’s continuance intention, although privacy risk does not have a significant impact on it. The analysis results show that perceived usefulness has no significant effect on both perceived value and trust in a service provider. The results demonstrate that perceived ease of use and perceived enjoyment play a significant role in enhancing both perceived value and trust in a service provider. Our results are expected to provide academic and practical implications for bike-sharing services.

The paper investigates the impact of virtual environmental characteristics such as collaboration, communication, and resource sharing on social media adoption by the academic community at the university level. Building on the social constructivist paradigm and technology acceptance model, we propose a conceptual model to assess social media adoption in academia by incorporating collaboration, communication, and resource sharing as predictors of social media adoption, whereas perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness act as mediators in this relationship. Structural equation modeling serves to estimate the proposed conceptual model on a sample of 661 respondents from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The findings suggest that an individual’s propensity toward social media features (i.e., collaboration, communication, and resource sharing) acts as a stimulus to their social media adoption. Moreover, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness mediate the relationship between these stimuli and their outcomes (i.e., social media adoption). The paper concludes with the discussion on the findings and recommendations for the academicians and the practitioners of social media in the higher education institutions.

This research aims to integrate the functional, social, security, and personal dimensions to study mobile app usage antecedents in the Northern Capital Region of India. Convenience sampling was used, and an online survey resulted in 407 valid responses. The measurement and structural models were estimated using PLS-SEM. Perceived usefulness and social influence had no significant impact on usage, implying that contemporary consumers are much more discerning and do not get swayed by the benefits offered or the influence of those around them. The findings show that perceived ease of use had a significant impact on perceived usefulness and attitude formation. Since security is the most important factor determining usage and trust, the industry should have stringent standards to maintain security protocols in every interaction with the user. Also, security concerns need to be allayed, and grievances need to be resolved immediately to gain customer satisfaction and loyalty. Personal innovativeness and lifestyle compatibility are important determinants of attitude and usage. Firms should target mobile apps to students and the active working population who possess innovativeness and for whom mobile apps are compatible with their lifestyle. These users can act as influencers and help in improving their adoption.

Organizations have invested heavily in implementing Information Systems (IS) such as enterprise systems (ES) but experienced significant challenges in realizing the potential benefits from these systems. Despite the maturity of research in ES, little research has examined the impact of continued use of ES on job satisfaction. With increased use and dependency on systems such as ES, recent research has shown that system use can impact employees’ satisfaction especially during the earlier stages of the system implementation. This is because the implementation of this system is usually accompanied with drastic change in work duties and tasks in which employees might have to learn new skills to navigate the new system. This disruptive event can influence employees’ attitudes about their jobs following ES implementation. However, past the initial stage of implementation not much is known about the impact of continued use of ES on employee job satisfaction. This research, by drawing on theoretical models on IT continued usage and IT adoption (e.g., Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology [UTAUT]), theorizes the impact of perceived usefulness (PU) on user satisfaction, IS continuance intention, and job satisfaction, and tests a model through a survey of 108 ES users at a manufacturing company in Canada. The results suggest that facilitating conditions are a salient predictor of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and user satisfaction. Additionally, the results support that user satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on continuance intention and employee job satisfaction.

Purpose Many developing countries, including India, are committed to curbing black money from the economy. Therefore, these countries are focusing on a transparent online transaction facility. M-wallets are one online option facilitated by various companies using a mobile application. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of perceived usefulness, perceived security, perceived ease of use, trust, grievance redressal and satisfaction on young users’ intention to continually use M-wallet in India. Design/methodology/approach A research framework based on the expectation–confirmation theory has been formulated and tested empirically using data from M-wallets young users in India using structural equation modeling. Findings The analysis reveals that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use significantly affect user satisfaction and intention to continually use M-wallets. The effect of perceived security on user satisfaction is significant, and grievance redressal mediates the effect of perceived security on intention to continually use M-wallets. Practical implications The outcome of the research will help M-wallet service providers and policy makers in planning the service and increasing customer’ continuance intention. Originality/value The uniqueness of this research is that it adds two important constructs for mobile payment systems (grievance redressal and perceived security) that were missing in the earlier model proposed by Zhou (2013). The addition of the two constructs helped in formulating a better model.
