Although ethical consumerism has witnessed significant interest in recent years, most studies have focused on low-value, commoditized product categories such as food and beverage and apparel. Despite its significance, the research on ethical consumerism in luxury product segments such as diamonds is relatively scant. This formed the motivation of this study, which examined the ethical buying behavior of consumers and the moderating effects of their income levels in the diamond industry. Four hundred eightteen responses toa structured questionnaire were collected. The framework comprising of four constructs, namely ethically-minded consumer behavior, willingness to pay more, ethical concerns regarding country of origin of diamonds, and ethical buying behavior of diamonds was first validated, and then the hypothesized relationships between the constructs were assessed using structural equation modeling. Overall, ethically minded consumer behavior had a significant positive impact on willingness to pay more, ethical concerns regarding the country of origin of diamonds, and ethical buying of diamonds. Additionally, ethical concerns regarding country of origin positively influenced the ethical buying of diamonds, while the willingness to pay more had no significant impact on ethical diamond purchases. The multi-group moderation test results revealed that the income levels of buyers do affect the relationships between constructs. For instance, for the middle income group, generic ethically-minded consumer behavior did not translate into the ethical buying behavior of diamonds. The findings provide useful insights for practitioners and policy-makers regarding ethical consumerism in the diamond industry and help to highlight the issues facing the industry, such as its poor supply chain transparency, human rights abuses, child labor, money laundering, bribery and corruption, and environmental degradation from mining activities.

PPurpose – the purpose of the current research was to investigate the influence of the experience of players and no-players on their purchasing behavior in a gamified purchasing setting. Research methodology – PLS-SEM has been employed to investigate the effect of gaming on consumer behavior and analyze the data gathered via the questionnaire distributed online. Findings – unlike studies in different domains, where the positive impact of game experience in a gamified learning environment and purchasing intention towards gamified products has been highlighted, the results of this research reveal the irrelevance of game experience in online purchasing behavior. Research limitations – firstly, no comparison has been made concerning the differences between board-games and online games. Secondly, the length of time spent playing has not been analyzed. Lastly, the research does not offer any insight regarding the country, nor compare online and offline buying behavior. Practical implications – eventually, game experience needlessly impacts the purchasing process in a gamified setting. Game design, personality, characteristics, cultural background and other attributes of the participants are an important caveat. Originality/Value – the research reveals stimulating results for scholars in the field of gamification, game elements, consumer behavior, and online purchasing

The purpose of this paper is to profile three grocery retail formats (non-discounter, soft discounter, and hard discounter) in the Netherlands using Holbrook’s value types. These value types are linked to three consumer behavior outcomes, i.e., Satisfaction, Repurchase intention, and Word-of-Mouth. The impact of the retail formats is evaluated on the importance and performance of the value types, using a questionnaire for each of the retail formats. The relationship between the value types and outcomes is tested with partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Aesthetics, Altruistic value, and Efficiency are positively linked to Satisfaction. In addition, Efficiency is the key driver for Repurchase intention and has a positive impact on Word-of-Mouth. A positive Word-of-Mouth is predicted by Social value and Service excellence. The three examined retail formats show a difference in Holbrook’s value types. Overall, the results of the non- and soft discounters differ from the hard discounters. Remarkably, and contrary to previous studies, the soft discounter’s scores are the highest meaning that consumers are most critical for this retail format. It seems that consumers expect the best of both worlds at soft discounters: low prices, interesting bargains, easy access, but also appealing store design, and excellent service.

Purpose Building on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the purpose of this paper is to understand the green buying behavior of educated millennials in India. The study also attempts to extend the TPB by including two additional variables, environmental concern (EC) and willingness to pay premium, in the framework. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 202 students from various departments of an institute of higher education in India. The proposed model was tested with the help of structural equation modeling using bootstrapping procedures in SPSS AMOS 24. Findings Except for the direct association between subjective norm (SN) and purchase intention (PI), the study provided support for the TPB framework. EC was found to exert an indirect influence on green PI through its effect on attitude, SN and perceived behavioral control. Willingness to pay premium moderated the relationship of PI with green buying behavior. PIs were found to successfully translate into purchase behavior (PB). Practical implications This research by promoting an understanding on the factors affecting the green buying behavior of educated millennials in India will assist green marketers to tap the tremendous potential inherent in this market segment by formulating customized market plans and strategies. Originality/value The study extends the existing literature by validating and extending the TPB framework in a unique cultural context and advancing the understanding of underlying psychological mechanisms and boundary conditions of the relationship between PIs and PBs.

This paper examined the packaging features effecting milk buying behavior. Four packaging features were selected that included nutritional information, price, country of origin, & quality standards, and their impact on milk consumption and purchase behavior is analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The study was carried out in urban areas of Karachi, among 318 respondents using Likert scale based questionnaire. The findings suggested that all four packaging features have a significant positive impact on consumers buying behavior. Consumers are attracted towards those products which provides enough and adequate amount of information on its products’ packaging. Nutritional information is among one of the important element that needs more focus and it will surely results in a positive way to the manufacturers of dairy products. Hence, producers and marketers of milk should focus on their product’s packaging features especially on the verbal element as a primary strategy in order to influences consumers buying behavior.

For decades, impulse buying is considered to be one of the significant factors to increase sales volume in the retail sector. Past studies have investigated the impulsive buying behavior of generation Y consumers in retail settings of somewhat medium- and large-sized cities. Therefore, how certain situational or in-store factors can propagate impulse buying in the retail settings of small cities has been widely ignored. This article explores the influence of situational variables categorized as personal factors (time availability, family influence, money availability) and in-store factors (store environment, sales promotions, and friendly store employees) on generation Y impulse buying behavior in the Pakistani context in general and the country’s small cities in particular. A self-administered survey was used to elicit information from 422 purposively selected respondents (living in various cities of Punjab, Pakistan). Data have been analyzed by using Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) for structural equation modeling (SEM). Results revealed that personal factors, that is, time availability and family influence has significant and positive impact on the impulse buying behavior of generation Y consumers in Pakistan, also in-store factors except money availability has significant impact on impulse buying behavior. Recommendations for retail management have been given at the end of the article.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to characterize the consumption of an international consumer product fad. Design/methodology/approach A literature review of the concepts that can be related to an international fad was conducted, which included the study of the product life cycle, CAGE distances, the herd behavior, the consumer behavior in social media, the conformism and perceived newness. To know more about the subject, the Gin case was studied. The quantitative study began to define an initial model with the variables that can have impact on the consumption of the Gin. Based on the initial model, a survey was built and conducted, obtaining 143 valid responses. The data were analyzed on the basis of the structural equation modeling. Findings The results verified the positive impact of need for group differentiation on the consumption Gin. The perceived newness had a direct impact on its consumption. An international fad lasts while it is differentiator for the consumer, so the herd behavior influence was not validated. Research limitations/implications This study had a limitation in terms of responses. This study was made using a practical case of beverage, so its applicability to other types of products is limited. Originality/value This study is about consumer fads. It characterizes the key concepts in various moments of a fad: the implementation, the evolution of its consumption and its end. The study identifies the variables that have a positive impact on the consumption of a real fad. Data from sales geography diffusion in time are also analyzed.

The attitude of consumers who are pro-environment does not always lead to buying behavior on environmentally friendly products. Although consumers are regularly exposed to environmentally friendly product messages, this does not always have an impact on actual changes in behavior. To encourage understanding of consumer behavior of environmentally friendly products going forward, this paper aims to identify deeper the causes of attitude gaps - behavior and solutions to overcome them to obtain knowledge about integrated and holistic conceptual models related to consumer behavior gaps in the consumption of environmentally friendly products. This paper discusses the significant limitations in the consumption of environmentally friendly products and raises an understanding of consumer behavior of environmentally friendly products in the future. Furthermore, the operationalization of this model offers knowledge and strategic direction for marketing managers who seek to bridge the gap in consumer attitudes.

This study was conducted to identify the impact of emotional advertising on consumer buying behavior. The research is limited to high involvement products specifically home appliance brands. It also aims to assess the most influential advertising appeal that impacts the buying decision of the consumers. A quantitative approach was used, and the questionnaire-based survey was conducted using a sample size of 200 respondents and their response to different appeals like love, humor, happiness and excitement were recorded. The hypothesized model has been tested using factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show a positive impact of emotions like love, humor and happiness in influencing the purchase intention of the consumers. The paper confirms the positive relationship between emotional advertising and consumer buying behavior with respect to the home appliance brands.

Purpose Demand for luxury brands is increasing at a very fast pace in emerging markets like India. But very few quantitative studies have been conducted to explore the reasons behind this sudden surge in demand. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to understand the impact of beliefs on consumer buying behavior for luxury fashion brands in the Indian context employing theory of planned behavior and to develop a comprehensive understanding regarding motivating factors behind luxury goods consumption. Design/methodology/approach Researcher-controlled sampling techniques (judgment and snowball sampling) were employed to collect data from actual users of luxury fashion brands in New Delhi (India). Statistical tests including confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were applied for data analysis. Findings The findings show that all three beliefs – attitudinal belief, normative belief (NB) and control belief – were positively and significantly related to attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control (PBC). NB was found to have a positive impact on PBC as well as actual consumer purchasing behavior for luxury fashion brands. Originality/value This research contributes to the extant literature by bringing to light new findings that could help provide meaningful insights to the academicians and marketing practitioners.

This study aims to identify the sense of entitlement of Russian consumers’ behavior in customer loyalty programs context. It describes the consumer sense of entitlement concept and its application to consumer behavior research based on an extensive literature review. Consumer sense of entitlement refers to the extent to which a customer expects special treatment from the company. According to foreign research, consumer sense of entitlement as a personality trait remains stable over time and relatively invariant across other factors, and a situational response to the company’s actions affects consumer behavior including the personal style of interaction and their expectations. The paper includes an empirical study of the sense of entitlement of Russian consumers, who are representatives of generations Y and Z. The analysis was conducted on the data collected through a quantitative online survey on the consumer attitude and expectations of airline services. As a result of factor analysis and structural equation modeling, key components of consumer sense of entitlement such as demanding behavior and distinction have been revealed. Th e interrelation with loyalty and complaint behavior was identified for two groups of respondents, namely the members of customer loyalty programs and non-members. The authors revealed the positive impact of consumer sense of entitlement on voicing complaints for both groups of respondents and the positive influence of loyalty on the demanding behavior of respondents who do not participate in loyalty programs. The article represents an initialattempt to examine the Russian consumers’ sense of entitlement.
