To narrow the gap between theoretical research and practical application of short-term optimal reservoir power generation operation under uncertain conditions, a comprehensive study is conducted on the formulation, evaluation, and implementation of operation schemes throughout the entire procedure of optimal operation. Firstly, the three implementation modes of the optimal operation scheme are assessed with the post-evaluation method. After the optimal implementation mode is determined, the formulation and implementation of optimal operation schemes are improved by combining the advantages of conventional and optimal operation and using the concept of warning water level in operation rules. Finally, the Xiaoxuan Reservoir is taken as an example for simulation calculation under different operating conditions. The results show that the operation model integrated with operation rules has both the security of conventional operation and the profitability of optimal operation. The accordingly-formulated optimal operation schemes, when implemented with the output control mode, can provide valuable guidance for the actual operation of hydropower stations.

The short-term joint optimal operation simulation of Three Gorges cascade hydropower system aiming at maximum power generation benefit is proposed. And a new method for optimizing cascade hydropower station based on Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (AGA) with trigonometric selective operators is presented. In this paper, the practical optimal operation in power market is described. The temporal-spatial variation of flow between cascade hydropower stations is considered, and time of use (TOU) power price is also taken into account. Moreover, a contrast between Tangent-roulette selection operator and traditional one is made. To a certain degree, the results of simulative optimal operation based on several representative hydrographs show that Tangent-roulette wheel selection operator can find a more excellent solution, because the Tangent-roulette one can overcome the fitness requirements of non-negative. The research achievements also have an important reference for the compilation of daily generation scheduling of Three Gorges cascade hydropower system in the environment of power market.

Traditional reservoir operation mainly focuses on economic benefits, while ignoring the impacts on navigation. Thus, the economic operation of reservoirs considering navigational demands is of great significance for improving benefits. A navigation capacity evaluation method (NCEM), which evaluates the navigation capacity considering the influence of flow velocity and water level variation on navigation, is proposed to more effectively evaluate the navigation capacity. Based on two-dimensional hydrodynamic numerical simulation, the NCEM accurately calculates the navigation capacity according to detailed flow velocity and water level changes. In addition, a short-term multi-objective optimal operation model considering the upstream and downstream navigation and power generation is established. Then, the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA2) is used to solve the model. To verify the rationality of the method and model, they are applied to the case study of the Xiangjiaba reservoir. The results demonstrate that the method and model can not only provide a series of operation schemes for decision makers of reservoirs, but also direct the ship to pass safely through the approach channel, implying a certain practical value and significance as a reference for the short-term optimal operation of reservoirs in the future.

The short-term optimal operation model discussed in this paper uses the 2016 to 2018 daily and monthly data of Baluchaung II hydropower station to optimize power generation by minimizing water consumption effectively in order to get more revenue from optimal operation. In the first stage, run-off-river type Baluchaung II hydropower station data was applied in a mathematical model of equal micro-increment rate method for optimal hydropower generation flow distribution unit results. In the second stage, dynamic programming was used to get optimal hydropower generation unit distribution results. The resultant data indicated that optimized results can effectively guide the actual operation run of this power station. The purpose of the optimal load dispatching unit was to consider the optimal power of each unit for financial profit and numerical programming on the actual data of Baluchaung II hydropower plant to confirm that our methods are able to find good optimal solutions which satisfy the objective values of 17.75% in flow distribution units and 24.16% in load distribution units.

Abstract With the implementation of the most stringent water resources management system and the advancement of the construction process of reservoir terrace basins, the research and application of the theory and method of joint operation of reservoir groups are becoming more and more important. The Differential Evolution Adaptive Metropolis (DREAM) algorithm is a sampling algorithm based on the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method proposed in recent years. The algorithm satisfies ergodicity and is good at handling problems with multivariate nonlinearity, high dimensionality, and multi-peaks, and as such the algorithm is a new global optimization solution. This paper elaborated the solution mechanism of the standard DREAM algorithm, and the algorithm was applied to the optimal operation model of the reservoir group in Jialing River. First, we optimized and analyzed the multi-objective supply operation model of the reservoir group water in Jialing River. Then the multi-attribute decision-making and evaluation index system of water supply operation rules for the reservoir group to assess the optimization of the operation model was adopted. Finally based on the results of the evaluation, the best water supply operation scheme for the reservoir group of Jialing River was selected. The results show that the Baozhusi Reservoir can fully meet the planned water supply requirements in dry years, while the two reservoirs, Shengzhong and Tingzikou, need to be weighed against the evaluation indexes of water supply operation. The research provides a theoretical basis for the DREAM algorithm in the optimal operation of the reservoir group and the actual operation scheme for the reservoir group of Jialing River.

An on-line respiration meter is presented to monitor three types of respiration rates of activated sludge and to calculate effluent and influent short term biochemical oxygen demand (BODst) in the continuous activated sludge process. This work is to verify if the calculated BODst is reliable and the assumptions made in the course of developing the proposed procedure were acceptable. A mathematical model and a dynamic simulation program are written for an activated sludge model plant along with the respiration meter based on mass balances of BODst and DO. The simulation results show that the three types of respiration rate reach steady state within 15 minutes under reasonable operating conditions. As long as the respiration rate reaches steady state the proposed procedure calculates the respiration rate that is equal to the simulated. Under constant and dynamic BODst loading, the proposed procedure is capable of calculating the effluent and influent BODst with reasonable accuracy.
