Abstract This study proposes a methodology based in participatory strategies for building a matrix of indicators for evaluating programs/projects of Environmental Education (EE) in sanitation. For this, theoretical grounds and legal frameworks in both areas were combined from the construction, application and validation of indicators with methodological strategies in which the interests and perceptions of the actors involved in such programs/projects could be known and ethically negotiated so that the methodological rigor and empirical knowledge favor the empowerment of those involved and thus the legitimacy and effectiveness of the evaluation. The present proposal was applied in an EE Program for Solid Waste Management developed in a municipality in the semi-arid region of Bahia. Keywords: Environmental Education, Sanitation, Methodological Possibilities, Construction of Indicators, Program/ projects Evaluation.

The article aims to characterize the transformations that have occurred in family agriculture by examining the social, economic and political aspects in the semi-arid region of Bahia. It has as its central axis the statement that the rural world remains an important category for the analysis of relations among social classes. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was carried out on the subject, as well as the legal frameworks that legitimize the insertion of family agriculture. This study opted for the adoption of the dialectical materialism method, since the semi-arid region is part of a set that materializes in social, economic and political relations, influencing and receiving influence from the environment. Moreover, based on data from the 2017 Agricultural Census, a quantitative analysis was made by comparing establishments belonging to the family and non-family agriculture categories. Finally, it is believed that this study may contribute to understanding the characteristics of family agriculture and encourage seeking actions and public policies that consider the peculiarities of the farmers' way of life.

This work intends to analyze the use of the qualitative method in studies related to solid waste management. A systematic literature review of the articles published between 2014 and 2019 was made in the Scielo databases (Scientific Electronic Library Online), in the CAPES Journal Portal and Web Of Science. In addition to searching for reference journals in the area of waste (Waste Management and Waste Management and Research) through the descriptors “Qualitative Research” and “Solid Waste”; “Interview”, “Solid Waste” and “Perception” (Interviews, Solid Waste and Perception) and 598 articles were found, and after applying the selection criteria the universe was reduced to a total of 42 publications. The selected articles were analyzed and categorized according to the most relevant aspects such as work objectives, study sample and main results. Qualitative research has been found to be a viable tool and can be employed on a large scale in waste-related studies. It was also found that many studies that use the term “qualitative research” do not have the necessary methodological rigor to be named. It was found that qualitative research is adequate to answer questions in the field of waste studies such as the relationship between waste and public health problems, difficulties in selective collection and other management / treatment actions, environmental impacts, irregular waste disposal and problems in the management of special waste

Urban Solid Waste (USW) management is a highly challenging issue to be addressed in advancing sustainable urban policies. For a waste management system to be sustainable, it should be environmentally efficient, economically viable and socially accepted by the directly affected population. However, with regard to rural areas, waste management and treatment are being forgotten and consequently large amounts of waste are being inappropriately discarded, leading to serious environmental problems. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the real situation of solid waste in the Linha São José community, located in the rural area of Frederico Westphalen city (RS, Brazil), proposing solutions for waste management and seeking the environmental awareness of the inhabitants. The methodological procedure used includes a data survey through questionnaire, in order to obtain information. Dry waste collectors were installed in the community center and environmental education campaigns were performed. The biggest issue found was the burning of dry waste which was handled by the collector implanted in the community, showing positive results for the problem. The other campaigns performed showed great importance for the waste management and an improvement in the quality of life of the community’s inhabitants.
