The Introduction outlines the various chapters. It then situates the question of ‘body’ in the modern Western philosophical tradition following Descartes, and argues that this leaves subsequent responses to come under one of three options: metaphysical dualism of body and subject; any anti-dualist reductionism; or the overcoming of the divide. Describing the Phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty as a potent example of the third strategy, the Introduction then suggests his philosophy will function as foil to the ecological phenomenology developed and presented in the book. Moreover, one approach within the Western Phenomenological tradition, of treating phenomenology as a methodology for the clarification of experience (rather than the means to the determination of an ontology of the subject) is compared to the approach in this book. Since classical India, while understanding dualism, did not confront the challenge of Descartes (for better or for worse), its treatment of body follows a different trajectory.

It is a truism that black folk in the United States are an international people. From the beginning of the republic, they were compelled by force of domestic (national) circumstances to internationalize their struggle for liberation, the founders having excluded them from the US social contract. The initial affidavit of exclusion is right there in the inaugural document of the social contract, the Declaration of Independence, which, ever so cryptically, damned the king of England for having “excited domestic insurrections amongst us.” This was an attack on the self-emancipatory activities of the enslaved descendants of Africa, who were exploiting the chaos caused by the anticolonial rebellion to claim their freedom, sometimes in cahoots with the British colonialists. Unable or unwilling to confront their own contradictions, the authors of the Declaration of Independence condemned the self-determination of the slaves as the doing of outside agitators, a charge that would be hurled at African American movements and activists for generations to come—up to the present time, in fact....

AbstractThe major aim of CMP is not the removal of excess material but the planarization of the surface. Therefore the determination of the planarization length appears to be more important than the removal rate itself. It has been shown, that the planarization length is not a constant process parameter, but is related to the removal respectively to the polish time in a square root behaviour. Founded on models proposed by Boning, Ouma, et. al. we applied a sequential polish on a single quasi infinite step. The resulting profile could be simulated by a sequential convolution of the surface contour with a Gaussian transfer function. To come closer to the situation on a chip pattern we investigated the planarization behaviour on a specific pattern of the MIT854AZ copper CMP test chip, where a large area of unpatterned surface touches a pattern with a specific constant density. The 200 mm wafer samples consisted of RIE structured oxide films covered with 850 nm ECD copper. The polish was performed on a standard semiconductor manufacturing tool, using a commercial consumables set. The surface profiles were determined by a high resolution profiler within the polishing sequence. The densely patterned areas are removed within a certain polishing time while the transition point between the unpatterned and patterned area appears as a global step. The deposited copper thickness is sufficient to study the contour evolution in both phases, before and after removal of the dense pattern. The paper presents the experimental results on the contour evolution for the patterned fields as well as the global step.

At the Kampala Review Conference in 2010, the adoption of the amendments to the Rome Statute laid the groundwork for the eventual prosecution of the crime of aggression. China, a non-State Party to the International Criminal Court, has articulated its concerns regarding the Court's jurisdiction over the crime of aggression in legal terms. This paper examines the Chinese concerns regarding the role of the Security Council in the determination of an act of aggression and the definition of aggression primarily from a legal perspective. It argues that China has hovered back and forth between two conflicting legal positions on these issues during different periods in history according to its policy preference. This paper also considers the concerns of China from a policy perspective before concluding that the crime of aggression should not be regarded as an insurmountable barrier preventing China's accession to the ICC in years to come.

Nanotechnology has become one of the most popular areas of interdisciplinary research. In the vast majority of nanotechnology applications, polymer-based matrices were used as the dispersing medium of nanoparticles. The combination of polymer–zeolite nanocomposite has the potential to come out with the advantages of polymers and zeolites while coping with the deficiencies of both materials. In this study, the synthesis and properties of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) composites with nanozeolite + Y2O3 are investigated. Polyethylene nanocomposite fibers containing nanozeolite + Y2O3 at 5% by mass using a melt extrusion method were composed in a laboratory type twin screw extruder. The thermal properties of the composite fibers were determined by analysis of both thermal gravimetric and differential thermal spectra. Their structural properties were enlightened by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and ultraviolet absorption. According to the results of X-ray diffraction tests, the samples contain crystals in semicrystalline and α form. The mechanical properties of LDPE matrices increased with the addition of nanoparticles. In addition, radioluminescence properties of the polymer were also improved after composing with nanozeolite and Y2O3.
