Research on green consumption has two streams, the stream about how consumers consume green products (consume differently) and the stream about how to consume less. Most research focus on the stream about consume differently, therefore this study would like to contribute to the latter research stream by understanding the determinants of zero waste lifestyle adoption. The 3R theory (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is used in this study. The object of this study is generation-Z who live in Indonesian big cities, aged between 15 - 24 years. Data collection is done by using online questionnaire to 322 respondents. This study uses descriptive research design and judgemental sampling to collect the data. Data analysis is done by using structural equation modelling. Variables used in this study are attitude toward zero waste lifestyle, social norm, personal norm, altruistic motivation, and social media activity. The findings of this study are social media activity significantly influence reduce, reuse, and recycle behavior, social norms significantly influence recycle behavior only, while other factors do not significantly influence zero waste lifestyle adoption of generation-Z. This study gives insight that social media has significant role in changing consumer behavior to be more sustainable.

Social responsibility is understood to be one of the crucial strategic responsibilities for organizations across the globe. In the digital era, firms have transformed social responsibility initiatives into digital platforms. This study aims to investigate the effects of digital social responsibility (DSR) on electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and purchase intention (PI) in the social media context. This survey research is based on 214 samples, collected via an online questionnaire as a research tool. Structural equation modelling has been used to validate the proposed hypotheses. The results show that perceived DSR has significant positive influence on consumers’ attitude (b = 0.408) and eWOM (b = 0.238). The mediation analysis indicates that consumers’ attitude partially mediates the relationship between DSR and eWOM (DE = 0.238, IE = 0.154), and fully mediates the relationship between DSR and PI (DE = 0.08, IE = 0.173). Since few previous studies have explored the impact of DSR toward eWOM and PI, our study confirms the effects of DSR on consumers’ attitudes and eWOM. This empirical study can provide managers with further understanding of the effects of DSR via social media on consumers’ attitude and eWOM. Our results should also encourage firms to implement DSR initiatives to enhance consumers’ positive attitudes and spread positive word of mouth about firms. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-06-01-05 Full Text: PDF

The aim of this study is to explore social media marketing activities (SMMAs) and their impact on consumer intentions (continuance, participate, and purchase). This study also analyzes the mediating roles of social identification and satisfaction. The participants in this study were experienced users of two social media platforms Facebook and Instagram in Pakistan. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents. We used an online community to invite Facebook and Instagram users to complete the questionnaire in the designated online questionnaire system. Data were collected from 353 respondents, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data. Results show that SMMAs have a significant impact on the intentions of users. Furthermore, social identification mediates the relationship between social media activities and satisfaction, and satisfaction mediates the relationship between social media activities and the intentions of users. This will help marketers how to attract customers to develop their intentions. This is the first novel study that used SMMAs to address the user intentions with the role of social identification and satisfaction in the context of Pakistan.

The consumer markets for green personal care products have been expanding rapidly in the past decade and so are the greenwashing practices of the companies. More and more companies are engaging in greenwashing, misleading consumers about their environmental performance or the environmental benefits of a product or service. As the discussion around greenwashing practices has grown in the past few years, consumers have become conscious of their choices and have started understanding the greenwashing practices of companies. The purpose of this empirical study is to assess the greenwashing understanding in Indian consumers’ green purchase behaviour and the effects of receptivity to green advertising, environmental consciousness and personal norm, using structural equation modelling. The findings confirm that the level of greenwashing understanding moderates the relationship between receptivity to green advertising and green purchase behaviour. Additionally, the findings provide that income level has a significant impact on environmental consciousness and green purchase behaviour relationship. The study has possible implications for advertisers, government and other agencies.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyse the antecedent (Consumer Involvement) and the consequences (Brand Connection and Brand Usage Intent [BUI]) of the three dimensions of Consumer Brand Engagement (CBE) (Cognitive Processing, Affection and Activation) in luxury brand engagement on Facebook. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through an online questionnaire completed by fans/followers of luxury brands’ Facebook pages. The empirical study was conducted using structural equation modelling. Findings Consumer Involvement has a positive impact on the three dimensions of CBE (Cognitive Processing, Affection and Activation). This leads to the conclusion that Activation and Affection have an impact both on Self-Brand Connection and on BUI. Moreover, it was found that Cognitive Processing impacts only on BUI. Practical implications The results identified the factors which brand managers should focus on to increase CBE on Facebook. Originality/value This study is a pioneer, as it extends the consumer engagement model to the social media context in a hedonic and conspicuous consumption category which includes luxury brand products.

Despite increased knowledge of the impact of clothing production on the environment, the general public still has a low intention to purchase sustainable clothing. The present study analyzed the psychosocial predictors of Italian women’s intention to purchase sustainable clothing, proposing an integration of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Value-Belief-Norm (VBN) approaches. Participants (N = 286) filled in a self-report online questionnaire, measuring Italian women’s intention to purchase sustainable clothing, as well as TPB variables, such as subjective norm, attitude, and perceived behavioral control, and VBN variables, such as egoistic and biospheric values, awareness of consequences, and personal norm. Results of structural equation modeling showed that the TPB + VBN integrated model predicted women’s intention to purchase sustainable clothing. Personal norm and attitude were the strongest predictors of intention. Mediation analyses showed the indirect impact of the VBN chain (from values to moral norm) on intention. Discussion focusses on the psychosocial dimensions that public policy, non-governmental organizations, and clothing companies should consider when promoting the purchase of sustainable clothing.

Globalization and economic growth have brought substantial shifts in consumption practices, production and technology revolution in the wake of sudden spurt of social media usage among young consumers. The social media platforms have become a reliable source of communication with consumers and are shaping consumers' purchase intentions. Therefore, a framework was developed to explain and empirically verify the factors shaping green purchase intentions. Three factors Social media usage, Interpersonal Influence and E-WOM have been taken as exogenous variables. The model was tested and validated statistically with the help of structural equation modelling. Total of 500 respondents was sampled to collect the data. All four hypotheses were found to be statistically significant. The impact of social media usage was found to be most influential on purchase intention. The findings of the study will aid marketers to better understand how social media plays an important role in shaping consumers' purchase intentions and how social media can be leveraged in a better way to encourage green consumption among millennials.
