The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented damage to the educational system worldwide. Besides the measurable economic impacts in the short-term and long-term, there is intangible destruction within educational institutions. In particular, teachers – the most critical intellectual resources of any schools – have to face various types of financial, physical, and mental struggles due to COVID-19. To capture the current context of more than one million Vietnamese teachers during COVID-19, we distributed an e-survey to more than 2,500 randomly selected teachers from two major teacher communities on Facebook from 6th to 11th April 2020. From over 373 responses, we excluded the observations which violated our cross-check questions and retained 294 observations for further analysis. This dataset includes: (i) Demographics of participants; (ii) Teachers' perspectives regarding the operation of teaching activities during the pandemic; (iii) Teachers' received support from their schools, government bodies, other stakeholders such as teacher unions, and parents' associations; and (iv) teachers' evaluation of school readiness toward digital transformation. Further, the dataset was supplemented with an additional question on the teachers' primary source of professional development activities during the pandemic.

Goal. To build up a spring triticale genetic bank to provide breeding, scientific and educational institutions with initial material and to preserve the existing diversity. To update the database of accessions with a set of valuable economic and morphological features. Results and discussion. The methodology and results of the collection formation and evaluation of spring triticale accessions in the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine of Plant Production Institute nd. a V. Ya. Yuriev are presented. The formed collection includes 1,935 accessions from 27 countries: 42 varieties and 1,478 breeding lines from Ukraine, 92 varieties and 248 lines from foreign countries and also 75 genetic lines. The collection was formed by major valuable economic features (plant height, growing season length, spike threshing, yield, 1000-grain weight, disease resistance, technological properties, etc.). Accessions with the majority of morpho-biological and valuable economic features were selected. All the accessions in the collection are certificated. 1,762 accessions were packed for storage into the National Depository; 1,507 of them were packed for long-term storage. Conclusions. The gene pool of spring triticale from the collection of the Gene Bank of Plants of Ukraine is widely used for breeding. This allows conducting hybridization of genetically and ecologically remote forms with various expressions of features and obtaining whole new breeding material. Involvement of collection accessions in breeding allows generating new genetic sources of valuable economic features.

In the introduction to The power of tests: A critical perspective on the uses of language tests, Elana Shohamy raises the following questions: What is the meaning of a test for test takers, parents, teachers, and school administrators? What are the short- and long-term consequences of tests on the lives of individuals? What are the motivating factors behind the administration of language tests? What are the politics of the tests? These kinds of questions logically arise when the examination of testing includes a concern with the use of tests by educational institutions, policy makers, and society at large. Focusing primarily on the misuse of tests, this volume chronicles both intended and unintended test consequences.

Abstract In the third century AD, under the pressure of plagues, external invasion, rising army costs, and usurpation, the Roman emperors incrementally debased the silver coinage that was produced at their imperial mints and incrementally took over civic mints. The debasement, from 2.7 g of silver to 0.04 g of silver in the equivalent of a denarius from 160–274 ad, was accompanied by worries from emperors, mint-workers, and bankers about the value of the currency; however, the total loss of purchasing power of the Roman coinage from the same era was 50–70 %, far less than would be expected from the change in metallic content, if it were the primary source of value. The currency reform of Aurelian in 274 ad, despite raising metallic values of coins, was followed by at least a 90 % reduction in the purchasing power of the silver coinage from 274–301 ad, the year of Diocletian’s Edict on Maximum Prices, showing a paradoxically inverse relationship between metallic value and purchasing power. Based on this quandary, I argue that the Roman silver coinage of the third century CE became a fiat currency in some respects, deriving its guarantee from imperial iconography and assurances rather than from bullion value. The fiat nature of the silver coinage was largely present in usage as a medium of exchange for those without as much long-term interest in maintaining liquid stores of value; this is indicated by the differential debasement of the denarius and aureus; imperial actions and hoarding practices indicate the extent to which the currency was accepted at nominal value. I examine the reactions of different social groups in order to determine the perceived value of the Roman coinage during this time, and in order to understand the paradoxical collapse in the currency’s value in the late third century. To demonstrate this, I will present the applicable elements of the modern concept of “fiat” to this context through portrayal of emperors and usurpers on coins, use coin hoard data to determine the effect of Gresham’s Law, and examine historical and papyrological accounts of currency reforms. I will also use evidence of the expansion of taxes in kind and the rejection of nominal value by both emperor and subjects to argue that the inflation following Aurelian’s reform resulted from an invalidation of the trust in imperial fiat.


The purpose of the article is to consider the theoretical foundations, applied aspects, concepts and goals of sustainable development, as well as the study of factors and threats to the sustainable development of Pridnestrovie. Main material. The authors conducted a brief analysis of the main stages of introducing the conceptual apparatus used to assess the degree of world stability as a whole, regions and countries. Various approaches to defining the essence of sustainable development are considered. The author gives an extended interpretation of the "sustainable development" concept, which assumes that it is determined not only by environmental and economic aspects, but also has political, military, informational and other components. Groups and particular examples of indicators that characterize the degree of sustainable development are given. A list of factors that directly or indirectly affect the sustainability of countries and regions has been compiled and analyzed. Hierarchical levels of research on sustainable development issues are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on the study of the features of ensuring sustainable development of regions. Didactic aspects of studying the problems and mechanisms of ensuring sustainable development in educational institutions of different hierarchical levels are also considered. The applied aspects reflected in the article include assessment and analysis of a number of indicators reflecting development sustainability of the Transnistrian region of post-Soviet Moldova. Retrospective, modern and long-term threats to the sustainable development of the Transnistrian region are identified. Conclusions and further research. Some tools (measures) to ensure long-term sustainable development in the context of globalization and high turbulence of the international environment are proposed. Tools aimed at increasing the sustainability of the territorial units’ development of Pridnestrovie, the following are proposed: - diversification and growth of industrialization of economic systems; - preferential support for the development of high-tech material and energy-saving industries; - differentiation minimization of financial and property stratification of the population; - implementation of environmental standards and environmental management (ISO 14000) in industrial enterprises.

Purpose Because of the education sector’s evolution, accounting initiatives are required regarding competitiveness. Activity-based costing’s (ABC) neglected potential as a cost strategic tool initiated this research, which aims to identify administrative and operational factors that support or hinder its implementation in educational institutions as a predictor of competitiveness. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical model was proposed and tested through structural equation modeling to identify relationships between accounting departments, cost procedures, the transmissibility of information and competitiveness. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, a scale of items was derived, denoting an institute’s cost strategy and ABC implementations and returned from 417 Greek education institutes. Findings An accounting department’s role in accurate data transmissibility and an institution’s organizational structure significantly affect cost-related competitiveness. The importance of information sharing is strengthened by current cost allocation capabilities and the accounting department’s influence on management. Research limitations/implications ABC’s limited implementation in the Greek education sector complicated the theoretical model’s construction, as a variety of geographical and institutional factors were taken into consideration. Practical implications Customer value provides a competitive advantage and constitutes the basis of solid price strategies. Research demonstrates ABC’s importance for education institutions’ competitiveness and resource exploitation. Social implications Education’s commercialization urges costing strategy prioritization. ABC could benefit competitiveness and attract long-term funds and investments. To create value institutions, the allocation of incurred costs to added-value activities is crucial. Originality/value This study sheds light on vague issues institutions face when dealing with ABC. Understanding accounting departments’ influence shows ABC’s feasibility even for smaller or less efficiency-oriented education institutions.

BACKGROUND Children with long-term illness frequently experience symptoms that affect their daily life, and this is underreported in healthcare. Despite the large number of mHealth tools, few are based on a theoretical framework or supported by scientific knowledge. Incorporating universal design when developing a product ensures that all may benefit from the design and that person-centred communication is facilitated. OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to develop a person-centred communication support mHealth tool (i.e. Pictorial support in person-centred care for children: PicPecc) based on universal design principles for children with long-term illness to communicate their symptoms, using the co-design process by involving various stakeholder groups (children with long-term illness, parents, healthcare professionals, developers). METHODS The co-design development process included four phases: (i) interviews with seven children, 8 parents and 19 healthcare professionals to determine needs and wishes for support, (ii) workshop with 19 researchers, (iii) workshop with developers and (iv) interviews with 10 children, 9 parents and 21 healthcare professionals to evaluate the mock-up (prototype) of the developed mHealth tool. Data were synthesised using interpretive description. RESULTS There is a need for children with long-term illness to address symptoms such as fear, fatigue, nausea, pain, and anxiety. Fatigue and anxiety may be overlooked by healthcare professionals and therefore an easy-to-use tool to facilitate communication with the children is needed. Three common aspects were constructed: different perspectives on provided and perceived support, need for an easy tool to assess symptoms and to facilitate communication, as well as mapping the journey to facilitate recall. Parent and children stakeholders expressed a need for support when dealing with psychosocial issues, while parents were simultaneously concerned that children may regard the word anxiety as too alarming. However, the children themselves did not react to the word. Researchers repeated the importance of employing easy-to-use mHealth tools for children to communicate symptoms going beyond pain, e.g. anxiety and fatigue. The developers highlighted the practical and logistical implications of suggestions offered by other stakeholders and proposed best options for the development of the tool. CONCLUSIONS The co-designed developed PicPecc tool demonstrated the capacity to provide support when dealing with multiple symptoms and conditions. PicPecc opens a dialogue between the child and the healthcare professionals, and it addresses symptoms that may otherwise be overlooked. Future research includes usability testing and evaluation in hospitals, as well as in a home care setting. CLINICALTRIAL -

Background Although concerns about unintended negative consequences of standards-based accountability (SBA) reform for children's socioemotional development have been raised, few studies have systematically examined early childhood teachers’ perceptions of and practices for children's behavior and bodies under such policy. This study was conducted against the backdrop of the intersection of the accountability policy and the increasing prevalence of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) among children, including preschoolers. Purpose The study investigated how early childhood teachers’ perspectives of and practices for the behavior and bodies of children considered at risk of being identified with ADHD later in schooling were related to the increasing concern over school readiness under SBA reform. Research Design Data for a qualitative case study were generated through multiple methods, including video-recorded observations in two African-American children's pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms, interviews with their teachers, and artifact collection. Results The focal children's teachers appropriated the authoritative discourses of ADHD and readiness for school to perceive the children's bodies as uncontrollable and unready for school. The teachers taught the children a variety of bodily techniques to enculturate them in public school and to develop docile student bodies. Keeping their authoritative practices intact, the teachers hardly incorporated the children's areas of strengths into the curriculum and instruction. School was introduced to the children as a carnivalesqueless place, and both SBA reform and ADHD contributed to disembodiment in the public early childhood education settings. Conclusions This study suggests the need for reframing the notion of school readiness; bringing teachers’ folk theories about children's behavior and bodies to their critical awareness; and intentionally balancing serious, rigid parts of the daily classroom routine with relaxed, pleasurable moments.

Educators are faced with an important issue as it pertains to academic writing and research. There are many studies on academic dishonesty and cheating at all levels of education. Administrators and faculty in education need to be aware of the entrepreneurial gravity of this scheme and be proactive in communication by informing all stakeholders to develop policies to this academic epidemic. This article will also research the motives of academic dishonesty, deep web schemes to defraud, avoidance of criminal prosecution, and non-conventional intellectual warfare while making recommendations for internal change and reform. The purpose of this article is to enlighten practitioners and researchers to include students and educational administrators about the growing concern of plagiarism, unintentional plagiarism, defrauding funding sources, governmental agencies, educational institutions, perspective employers, and affixing serious long-term consequences and liability to participants and placing a negative stigma on brand reputation and further stress on academia.

AbstractRevision rhinoplasty exists because the perfect primary rhinoplasty technique does not. The benefit of revision surgery is that it offers us the opportunity to study and identify what did not work well during previous surgery. Thoughtful approaches to technique and outcomes allow us to recognize which maneuvers are dependable and worth repeating, and which are not reliable and therefore worth avoiding. As surgeons seek safer, more predictable results to improve patient outcomes, new techniques emerge which we then apply, study, and modify again, based on what works and what does not over the short term and the long term. There is no substitute for experience or for learning from trusted surgeons' experiences. Revision rhinoplasty presents many challenges including surgically induced anatomical changes, weakened structural support, a lack of available tissue for reconstruction, tissue remodeling responses, and other iatrogenic and wound healing complications. The septum, as the primary source of structural nasal integrity, forms the foundation for functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty. Herein, we describe strategies in septorhinoplasty for patients who have undergone prior nasal septal surgery.
