Student success in higher education depends on a complex set of services that must be integrated seamlessly and delivered to students. This chapter looks at the complex, and often competing, interests of students, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders as they seek to improve student success in higher education. Administrators, mid-level managers, change agents, faculty and ancillary student support services all need to understand the importance of their role in working together to make the changes necessary to improve teaching and learning. The great challenge is managing the change that this will require. Educational institutions in the 21st century need to become agile and able to manage change imposed by both internal and external pressures.

Rural revitalization to promote sustainable rural development is a key strategy promoted by the Communist Party of China. We conducted a comprehensive policy analysis to explore the development of sustainable rural education for promoting rural revitalization in China. Integrity, openness, and endogeneity are critical in the development of sustainable rural education. We investigated the formulation and implementation of sustainable development policies supporting rural education in China through an in-depth analysis of the rural education policy circle (policy design, content, and implementation) and administered a survey among rural education administrators and teachers to elicit their perspectives. Education personnel employed in rural areas within 10 provinces, including school and education administrators, teaching staff and researchers, and teachers (in kindergartens, primary schools, and middle schools) were recruited for the study. A total of 741 questionnaires were sent out and returned (a recovery rate of 100%). Our findings indicated that the policy design was unreasonable, and its focus on rural-based care was inadequate. Moreover, integration and symbiosis of policy content was lacking, and the governance system was also inadequate, leading to poor policy implementation associated with insufficient support of teacher resources. In addition to addressing the above issues, we suggest that the policy should have a rural orientation to enhance integration and symbiosis, with a focus on building and consolidating the ranks of rural teachers.

Abstract: Special need individuals’ participation in various sectors including education has gained full attention and support from the government. However, they remain underrepresented in getting access to tertiary education. Higher education is committed in providing inclusive campus environment for special need students. Currently, there are several issues faced by higher education administration in providing inclusive campus. Studies that systematically review the literature on issues and challenge in providing inclusive campus for special need students (SNS) remain insufficient. Hence, this article intends to present a systematic literature review on the challenges in creating inclusive campus environment among higher education administrators. The review was based on the publication standard, namely ROSES (RepOrting standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses). Two leading databases of Scopus and Web of Science, and five supporting databases were selected. Based on the thematic analysis, this review has four main themes namely 1) special need student; 2) inclusive campus; 3) challenges; 4) faculty member. The study offered several significant contributions for practical purposes. Findings from this review offer an insight for the higher education administrator to strategize in creating an inclusive campus for the SNS. To be more certain, future studies on SNS inclusively especially in Malaysia context are recommended.   Keywords: Higher Education, Inclusive environment, Special need student

This research seeks to explore the experiences of social work educators and students working and learning from home. The findings, from an international survey sample of 166 educators and students, showed that the respondents faced issues with private and personal boundaries, felt the impact of working and learning from home on both physical and emotional levels, and experienced challenges to what was expected of them. The respondents primarily used two types of coping mechanisms to manage these challenges. These findings contribute to a broader discussion of the impact of working and learning from home and are relevant for education administrators responsible for their employees’ and students’ well-being.

Abstract As U.S. higher education institutions closed their campuses and transitioned to online education due to the high risk for COVID-19 transmission, first-generation college students (FGS) were particularly susceptible to multiple stressors. Findings from a sample of 44 participants reveal seven resilience triggers, four resilience processes, and three relationships between resilience processes and triggers. Based on these findings, we advance the communication theory of resilience by establishing the ways triggers can be structural, emergent, and overlapping and by theorizing resilience processes as both enduring and time-bound/contingent. We also employ a new qualitative method, thematic co-occurrence analysis, to illuminate the relationships between the resilience triggers and processes. Practical applications for higher education administrators, teaching instructors, and student support professionals are described.

Programming and coding are important skills and competencies in the 21st century. Due to this importance, robotics programming has been introduced in the Malaysian education system since 2013. Robotics is important in education because it could be used to cultivate various skills. Various studies have been conducted on robotics and its applications in education, and proponents of robotics believe that using robotics to teach programming could be impactful and effective in the Malaysian education context. On the other hand, many students think that programming is challenging. Consequently, some questions have arisen, such as the suitable programming language or platform to be used in Malaysian Primary School and the best instructional method. Studies have also examined the existing robotics modules used in the teaching and facilitation (T&F) process, in which it was found that the current curriculum is focused on introducing robotic programming. In this regard, there is a need to explore the current teaching design, pedagogy, and teachers’ practices. Therefore, this study is aimed to explore the teachers’ practice in teaching robotics programming as part of the Design and Technology (RBT) subject in Primary School. This study discusses teachers’ practices, the issues in robotics programming education, the importance of robotics to education, especially in primary schools, and the robotics kits and programming languages or platforms commonly used in schools. This study is a qualitative case study, and data were collected using in-depth interviews. The findings of this study have produced several key themes, namely: (a) RBT teacher practices (GRBT) in T&F, (b) Strategies in lesson planning, (c) Challenges and obstacles of T&F, (d) Use of technology, and (e) Teacher’s commitment. These are hoped to help educators, education administrators, and policymakers to understand the implications of robotics teaching in teaching programming.

The development of information technology has spawned a new type of demand and management analysis model of big data. The value of data is vividly reflected in the contemporary era, and all walks of life have devoted great energy to the construction and use of informatization. The object of college education and management is the group of college students who are most closely connected with contemporary trends. Their thoughts are active, their state is changeable, and they are very sensitive to external stimuli. Such an educational situation has greatly increased the difficulty of educational management in colleges and universities. This article takes the big data research as the breakthrough point, focuses on the promotion and innovation of contemporary college education management informatization, and strives to improve the college education management informatization system by solving existing problems. The innovation of this research is to use big data technology as the starting point for improving the current stage of the education informatization work of colleges and universities, through the combination of data analysis and the latter, to realize the comprehensive informatization innovation of education management. The study used questionnaire surveys to investigate and interview some students and related managers in 5 universities in the province and conducted an objective assessment of the construction of educational management informatization in these universities and found that these five universities have common problems in this field. Research experiments have found that among the five representative universities in the province, the service awareness of education administrators is not above the fifth level. This shows that in the big data environment, the quality of education administrators cannot be ignored.
