This study aims at investigating the ways Pre-service English Teacher (PET) uses English in the classroom. Observation data described how PET used English in one of Junior High School in Karawang. The results showed there were three findings emerged. Firstly, the use of English was practiced in stimulating students at the pre-lesson stage. Secondly, the PET tended to use Indonesian in main lesson. Finally, in the post-lesson stage English was used more dominantly but Indonesian is more dominant in the reflection stage.

Teaching English is not a very easy job and becomes a challenging task for the Junior High School teacher in Banjarnegara regency that is located in a mountainous area and the majority of the people love to speak their mother tongue in their daily life. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the challenges faced by an English teacher in the teaching as well as what the solution/recommendation they made. This study employed the qualitative methods in which questionnaires and interview guide utilized and hundred and twenty-five (N=125) teachers were purposely and conveniently sampled from Junior High School English teachers in Banjarnegara regency. The results revealed that the challenges faced in teaching English are divided into four parts. The first challenges were from the teachers. These challenges are less of teaching material, teaching design, classroom management, ICT skill, many teaching administration, job loaded, and memory decrease. The second was from the students. Those are lack of vocabulary, loss of motivation, and juvenile delinquencies. The third was from schools. Schools had limited facilities, which can be utilized by teachers and students in teaching activities such as; limited dictionary, projector, and language laboratory. The fourth was from the parents. Many parents from the village have low education and future vision so it influenced their children's education. The study also gives three recommendations for succeeding in teaching English such as; (1) teachers should make teaching contract at the beginning of the semester, (2) principals send teachers joining to MGMP meeting and Continuous Professional Development activity, (3) schools give motivation to students and parents periodically.

The aim of this study is to develop Picture Series as a media for teaching writing procedure text at the third year students of Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. The researcher used Research and Development (R &D) method through ten steps: observing, evaluating need analysis, developing first media, validating with experts, revising it, testing in small group, revising, testing in large group, revising, producing final product. The subjects of this research were 30 students from IX-1 class, and 34 students from IX-2 class. The instrument of collecting data was using questionnaires. The data were analyzed by descriptive text technique. The result of the product from two validators – an English lecturer from State University of Medan and an English teacher from Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School, was in scale of 4 which was in good quality. And the result from all of the students was in scale of 4 which was in good quality too. It means that the developed product/Picture Series is eligible to be used for teaching writing procedure text for the third year students in Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. Keywords: Research and Development (R & D), writing procedure text, picture series

This research aims to describe the implementation of the 2013 curriculum on Music Art learning in the 10 Kerinci Junior high school, including soft-skill and hard-skill learning. The study uses theories related to the 2013 curriculum. The type of research used is qualitative research with descriptive methods of analysis. The object of this study was the study of musical art in class VIII SMP Negeri 10 kerinches on the Semetereven school year 2019/2020. Research instruments are self-research, namely in AIDS with the instruments of notebooks and observations with the technique of collecting observation data, interviews and library studies. The results showed that the teachers were able to music art of junior high School 10 Kerinci has been able to spread the concept of soft-skills and hard-skills well in the learning of music art in class VIII. As a BETUK application of the 2013 curriculum that succeeded characters, but does not overlook the purpose of learning knowledge and skills. Based on the results of the study, explained that whether or not the use of the curriculum 2013 and accompanying teaching devices, depends on the teacher's personal, especially in good faith and its codifying in explaining a curriculum. The 2013 curriculum which is based on soft-skill and hard-skill, will be successful or not, not because the curriculum are less precise or great, to the extent that the teacher understands with the intent of the 2013 curriculum that is involved in learning in the classroom.Keywords: use, curriculum 2013, Art culture (music)

<p>This research was applied descriptive qualitative and used content analysis design. The researcher took checklist table as the instrument. The purpose of the study was to analyze and classify the type of tasks in <em>Modul Bahasa Inggris created by Bogor English teacher organization </em>used for seventh grades in Junior High School. Based on Willis (2000) taxonomy of task types, it found that the module cover task types such as <em>Sharing Personal Experience </em>(40.32%) tasks were  the  most  frequent  and  <em>Listing  </em>(14.52%),  <em>Problem  Solving  </em>(14.52%)<em>, Ordering  and  Sorting  </em>(11.29%),  <em>Comparing  </em>(11.29%),  and  <em>Creative  </em>tasks (8.06%), respectively, were the least common tasks types presented in <em>Modul Bahasa Inggris created by Bogor English teacher organization. </em>This module is good because almost of the types by Willis (2000) taxonomy of task types was covered by this module. The results of this study hope that the English teachers to be more aware of different task types which are important to learning process. For developers in order to develop and enrich the presented English Learning teaching materials with more communicative tasks.</p>

To provide educational and learning services to students during the Covid-19 Pandemic, learning is carried out by learning from home. The disparity in learning achievements, especially related to attitude competencies, is strongly experienced during learning from home. This study aims to integrate attitude values through learning with Ki Hajar Dewantara’s scaffolding concept comprising Identifying, Imitating, Developing, Disseminating respectively. This scaffolding is applied to strengthen the character of junior high school students in Yogyakarta Special Province to become Pancasila Students. This is a Research and Development study which applies a qualitative approach. Respondents to this study were teachers, principals, students, parents and junior high school supervisors in this province. Data were collected using focus group discussion, interview, observation.. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman models which comprised data reduction, data display and inference stages. The results of this study is a character education strengthening model during learning from home applying Ki Hajar Dewantara’s scaffolding concept. This model contributes to policy making of character education strengthening during the learning from home online.

The objective of this research was to describe students responses in teaching materials folklore. The formulation of the problem of this research was, How do the students respond the teaching of folklore in junior high school at Lubuklinggau City. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection in this research used questionnaire and class observation. Data analysis technique that is with description stage, classification phase, analysis phase, data interpretation, evaluation, and conclusion. The result showed that the first indicator, 100 percent of students happy, enthusiastic and eager to read or hear the folklore Lubuklinggau. In the second indicator, 139 students or 100 percent care about literary works of folklore, while students who respond to literature folklore as much as 139 students or 100 percent. In the third indicator, 134 students or 96.40 percent, optimistic about the benefits of reading literature folklore Lubuklinggau and, indicators believe the benefits of reading literary works as many as 134 people or 96.40 percent. The fourth indicator, 139 students or 100 percent, serious in learning literature folklore Lubuklinggau, while students were active learning literature as much as 135 people or 97.12 percent. Students who were actively involved in learning literature as many as 139 people or 100 percent. In the fifth indicator, 139 students or 100 percent, willing in literary learning activities and students who respond to literary materials in sprint as much as 135 people or 97.12 percent and 4 students or 2.88 percent have not shown spray attitude in response in teaching folklore. Based on the results of students responses, it can be concluded that the teaching materials folklore Lubuklinggau able to motivate the learning activities of the seventh grade students of state junior high school in all Lubuklinggau City. Teaching writing to junior high school students is absolutely a challenging job for English teacher in Indonesia, it also happened in a junior high school in Jombang. The researchers found that both teacher and students got problem in writing process because of the students’ low ability in writing and monotonous writing teaching technique used by the teacher. This research used a Classroom Action Research design to solve the problem by using Make a match teaching technique. Make a match is considered to be one of cooperative learning method which has some benefits in teaching learning process. The result of data analysis indicates that Make a match bring benefits to improve students’ writing and class participation.

This study was a case study which aimed to analyze the types of questions used by an English teacher, the purposes of questions asked by the teacher, and the strategy used to cope with non-responded questions. The subject of this study was an English teacher who taught seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Singaraja which is located in Singaraja, Buleleng regency, Bali, Indonesia. The data were collected through observation, interview, and video recording. The result of the analysis showed that from 241 questions, the teacher more frequently asked convergent, closed, and display questions rather than divergent, open, and referential questions. Procedural questions were also found. The teacher’s questions served several purposes such as to check students’ knowledge and understanding, to attract students’ activeness, to develop students’ interest and curiosity, and to stimulate students in stating information. It was also found that the teacher used seven strategies to cope with non-responded questions. This study suggested the teacher to balance the number of convergent, closed, and display with divergent, open, and referential questions to be used during teaching and learning process. In addition, the teacher should know more about the strategies for non-responded questions and the proper way to use those strategies to make the teaching and learning process runs smoothly.

The research aims at investigating the implementation of task based learning conducted by the teacher in teaching writing descriptive text for junior high shool students of seven grade.The student still have problem in writing especially descriptive text. The study examine show to the teacher conducs the task based learning in teaching writing trought some step and elaborates students’ ability in writing descriptive text.the research used qualitative approach because the result of the data analyzed was in descriptive phenomenom such a word, sentence and utterence. The data is collected from observation, interview and students’ writing. The analysis of the data was conducted thought categorization, data display and drawing conclusion. The subjects of this research are an english teacher and his students of VII grade. The result of the study indicates that the implementation of task based has many weaknesses in some aspects.The consuming time in doing the task is one of the matters. Students’ use of mother tongue instead of the target language makes the implementation of task based learning does not go as expected.In reference to the findings of the study, some suggestion proposed. The english teacher should use and design task which will not consume more time,so the step in task based learning will bwe accommodated in a meeting. The student should speak in the target language and the task based learning is implemented in order to reach the aim of this approach.   Key Words : Task – Based Learning, Descriptive text, Students’ writing
