The objective of this study is to identify the contribution of a store environment—through the urge to buy impulsively—to impulse buying. A “survival of the fittest” approach is reaching its peak in business; therefore, this competitive attitude is pushing businesses and markets to be optimally attractive. A majority of brand-conscious people are attracted to the ambiance of shopping places in addition to product features and prices. Dubai-UAE is emerging into the global limelight as the top retail shopping destination in the Middle East North African region because 62% of the world’s leading retail brands are present there. Primary data, using a closed-ended, 5-point Likert scale questionnaire, was collected from the customers of the prominent shopping malls operating in Dubai. This data was intended to explore the role of store environments and their antecedents (e.g., music, light, layout, and employees) in impulsive buying. The analysis used structure equation modeling, which revealed that there exists a significant connectivity amongst store and mall environments, impulsive buying, and the urge to buy impulsively. Furthermore, mediation of the “urge to buy impulsively” is explored. Based on these findings, conglomerates, Small and Medium Enterprises should focus on the ambiance of the stores and malls rather than merely focusing on the product pricing and functionality.

Purpose: The real challenge of establishing and maintaining business ethics in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has become a global issue. We investigated the driving forces of ethical practices (EP) and its contribution to the overall performance in businesses.Design/methodology/approach: This study collected primary data from 117 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Saudi Arabia by using a well-designed questionnaire survey amongst SMEs and draw inferences using the structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis.Findings/results: Findings suggested that top management’s characters and ethical commitment, ethical policy and culture of the organisation and external pressure positively influence the ethical practice in the organisation, which leads to a significant positive impact on both financial and non-financial performances of SMEs. But the level of fraud and corruption and the level of monitoring show a mixed moderating effect on the relationships between ethical practice in the organisation and business performance.Practical implications: The findings of this research will help SMEs’ administrators and managers, as well as the companies to instil workplace ethics, which manages the level of business performance. The policymakers and other relevant authorities can also utilise the outcomes of this study to develop ethical policy guidelines and frameworks to improve SMEs’ competitiveness and sustain their companies in the long run.Originality/value: The unique feature of this research is that both the causes and effects of EP are considered in one integrated model. This gives a more vivid picture of the ethical issue in a business organisation.

The study was conducted using primary data obtained from the distribution of questionnaires. In total, there were 100 IKM leaders in Mojokerto who became the respondents in this study. Hypothesis testing is done by using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS). The results of the study show that organizational learning and innovation have a positive and significant effect on improving SMEs’ competitive advantage. The results of this study also prove that innovation can mediate the relationship between organizational learning and SMEs’ competitive advantage.

This study aims to analyze factors that affect entrepreneurs of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) intention to use accounting information systems (AIS). This research model is based on theory of flow which analyzes attitude towards AIS Use, Perceived Enjoyment and Concentration as factors that affect behavioral intention to use and its impact to actual usage. Analysis of data uses Partial Least Square (PLS) of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Unit of analysis in this research are entrepreneurs of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Bandung City. In order to obtain primary data, we use questionnaires. The result of this research is intended to solve the problem of low intention to use AIS which gives impact to AIS usage.

This paper examines factors that may hinder micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in accessing financing from banking services in the area of Madiun Raya. Among barrier access to finance factors is complicated eligibility, low accessibilities and religious factors. However, this study further highlights three factors of barrier access to finance by using Second-order Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to validate these factors. In achieving the objectives, a quantitative approach was applied in this study. This study uses primary data collected through a questionnaire involving 146 selected respondents who have micro businesses around the Madiun Raya area which includes Magetan, Ngawi, Ponorgo, Madiun and Madiun Kota. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in this case, second-order CFA is used as an analysis technique. The study revealed that second order CFA validates three variables which include religious factors, low accessibility and low eligibility are in the best fit indices as factor of access barrier to finance to financial services around Madiun raya area. With the results of this study, it allows academics and researchers to find out the factors that can prevent micro businesses in accessing finance in the context of Indonesian banking institutions.

The study investigated the direct effects of financial literacy (knowledge, skills, and attitudes) on financial preparedness for retirement and the moderating effect of age among the small and medium enterprises in Uganda. Primary data was collected from a sample of n = 380 selected from the SME workforce. Descriptive analysis was run on SPSS, while validity and reliability of the measurement items yielded satisfactory composite reliability scores and average variance explained (AVE) scores for all items. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses and multi-group analysis conducted to test for the moderating effect of age on the relationship between financial literacy and retirement preparedness. The results revealed that knowledge and skills were significant predictors of retirement preparedness. However, ‘attitude' was not a significant predictor, and age had no moderating effect on the relationship between the study variables. These findings present practical implications for policymakers and financial educators in a developing country context.

PurposeThe main objective of this paper is to study the role of supply chain performance (SCP) as a mediator between big data-driven supply chain (BDDSC) and firm sustainable performance. In addition, the role of firm age as a moderator between BDDSC and SCP as well as between SCP and firm sustainable performance has also been explored.Design/methodology/approachThe 200 managers of medium or senior level positions in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) located at Delhi-NCR have been contacted. Further, collected data have been confirmed with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). In this paper, structure equation modeling (SEM) has been employed to empirically check the proposed hypotheses and their relationships.FindingsThe findings confirmed that SCP mediates the link between BDDSC and firm sustainable performance. Additionally, firm age moderates the association between BDDSC and SCP as well as between SCP and firm sustainable performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe role of SCP and firm age between BDDSC and sustainable performance have been examined in the context of MSMEs in Delhi-NCR and thereby limit the generalization of results to other industries and country contexts.Originality/valueThe present study adds to the existing literature via recognizing the blackbox using SCP and firm age to comprehend BDDSC and firm sustainable performance relationship.

Over the last twenty years the impact of language in international and multinational companies has attracted significant scholarly attention, which is reflected in the growing literature. However, and despite the fact that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) constitute the engine of numerous economies worldwide, the impact of foreign languages on SMEs’ performance remains understudied. This is especially intricate because, considering that SMEs often have fewer resources, the commitment of such resources to language acquisition and foreign language education can only be justified in the case of improved performance. To address this gap, the objective of our research aims to get insights whether and how the domain of a foreign language (mainly English) affects SMEs’ performance. For this purpose, we perform an exploratory empirical study based on data collected through a telephone questionnaire during the first semester of 2017. A group of private Spanish SMEs constitutes our sample. Our work presents the results of the statistical analysis of these primary data, and contributes to a more nuanced perspective on language utility for organizational performance.
