Social studies learning in junior high schools are still predominantly carried out in conventional ways. Discussion of knowledge that leads to the development of students' critical knowledge is difficult. This research aims to analyze the process of strengthening students' critical knowledge of controversial issues in the social studies classroom. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with a descriptive design. This study involved nine social studies teachers at junior high schools in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using interviews and observation techniques. Then, the data were checked by the source triangulation technique. The data analysis is a qualitative data analysis model with the Creswell framework. The results of this research are: (i) students' critical knowledge of controversial issues is strengthened through interactive discussions; (ii) problem-based learning model is very relevant for strengthening students' critical knowledge about controversial issues; (iii) teacher instructions that encourage students to work independently, extracting comprehensive information, and the content of the material in debatable discussions make controversy issues very attractive to students. This research concludes that the learning of controversial issues is highly contextual by strengthening students' critical knowledge.

Sustainable professional development of pedagogic teachers is a strategic effort to improve the competence and performance of teachers in carrying out their duties and functions as planners, implementers, and evaluation of learning in  the classroom. This research aims to examine the improvement of innovative, creative, adaptive, and productive quality of PBI based on Indonesian text and character through the SKBP model of teachers in junior high schools and MTs. This research was  conducted using qualitative approach with survey type. The research subjects were PBI teachers in 6 junior high schools and MTs selected research target locations by using random patterns of strata. Descriptive data of 5 research objects obtained by researchers as a key instrument with interview techniques, questionnaires, and focused observations. Data analysis was carried out using a flow model during the study.  The development models used are  R2D2 model: Recursive, Reflective Instructional Design and Development  and Oxford training strategy model. The assessment of the effectiveness of the SKBP model was carried out using a qualitative approach with the type of class action research of the Kemmis and Taggart models. The research subjects were PBI teachers and grade VIII students at 6 junior high schools in Malang districts and cities. Further data analysis is done descriptively, including (1) improvement of pbi process based on Indonesian text and character using SKBP model and (2) improvement of PBI results based on Indonesian text and character using SKBP model.

This was a descriptive qualitative study which was done in 2017 at junior high schools in Semarang Central Java, Indonesia. This study focused on the teachers’ perception and teaching writing using word games. According to Chastain (1988) "writing is a basic communication skill and a unique tool in the process of second language learning" (p.244). The problem of this study was what are the teachers’ perception towards the word games used in enhancing the students’ writing skill? The sample of the research were 6 junior high schools’ students in Semarang central java, Indonesia. They were students of grade eighth at SMP N 8, SMPN 39, SMPN 36, SMP Institut Indonesia, SMP PGRI Semarang, and SMP Theresiana Semarang. A structured interview was kindly used as the instrument in collecting the data. The findings are; 1) Teaching writing is not easy and need to be creative to make students understand since they have to master the way hoe to organize a good paragraph or text. 2) Usually they do not apply any games in teaching writing since they got the material for granted. 3) Most of the teachers have known what word game is. Even they have applied it sometimes in speaking and vocabulary. 4) Teachers rarely do teaching English using word games by purpose. Especially teaching writing, teachers do not really pay attention on the current skill. 5) Even though some teachers do not really understand the way to use word games in the case of implementation but then, they are aware that students need a motivation in a space of teaching and learning process during filling the material. 6) Teachers like teaching writing using word games because word games can help them to motivate students in following the questions since the love playing while learning in the classroom. 7) teachers can motivate students to follow the lesson with fun, teachers easily follow the word games because it is equipped by the clear instructions, there are various word games which are related to teaching skills, word games are easily made/created by teachers based on the need of the lesson plan, word games are the simplest media to teach and long life. 8) word games which applicable to teach writing using word games are entitled broken sentence, mixed story, arranging sentence in a story, and getting occupation. The conclusions are The teachers’ perceptions towards teaching writing using word games are; teachers feel happy and fun during teaching writing using word games, teachers need more energy and time to maintain the word games, teachers should focus on the goal of writing mastery not the game itself, teachers should be creative in creating and organizing the word games, and teachers believe that word games are able to motivate students in following the lesson.  Key words: teachers’ perception, teaching writing, word games

Research on the implementation of physical education learning at State Junior High Schools during the Covid 19 pandemic in Lubuklinggau City. The subjects of this study involved physical education teachers and students in state junior high schools in Lubuklinggau City. The data analysis technique used a qualitative descriptive analysis. Collecting data using observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Based on the results of the research data analysis above, it can be seen from the implementation of Physical Education learning at State Junior High Schools during the Covid 19 pandemic in Lubuklinggau City, which has a percentage of (50.20%) for Physical Education teachers with moderate criteria and for students (67.03%) with criteria good. The results obtained through observation, questionnaires and interviews.

The research location is in Middle School Sungai Tabuk 3 and Sungai Tabuk 4. Sungai Tabuk is a sub-district in Banjar Regency with a high threat level of floods and forest and land fires. Data collection through questionnaires, observation, and tests competence students. Data analysis with t test. The results showed 140 social studies teachers in Banjar Regency 56.6% had integrated natural disasters in social studies learning, the model developed was modified scientific inquiry learning frompre-disaster, disaster events, and post-disaster. There is an increase in student competence regarding disaster risk reduction, where t (count)> t (table) on trials first at SMPN 4 with trials second at SMPN 3. These findings lead to the conclusion that learning scientific with effective inquiry for student disaster risk reduction, relevant for social studies learning, relevant to increasing student activity, an effective inquiry model for improving the quality of social studies learning processes and products in junior high schools. The findings of this study have positive implications for the development of social studies learning about natural disasters in junior high schools. The practical implications of the findings of this study are an increase in the ability of social studies teachers and the socialization of inquiry models for reductionrisk disaster in Junior High School

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the assessment of physical education learning outcomes in public and private junior high schools in Siak Hulu district, Kampar regency. The research design used is descriptive quantitative.The population in this study were all physical education teachers in public and private Junior High Schools in Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency that consisted of 9 schools with 19 physical education teachers. The sample of this study were all population all physical education teachers of public and private Junior High Schools in Siak Hulu distric, Kampar regency. The technique for selecting a sampling of this research was saturation sampling. The data was collected by distributing questionnaires as an instrument of this research to all samples. The data analysis technique used in this research presents descriptive statistics with percentages results. Based on data processing and data analysis, the researchers conclude that the assessment of learning outcomes of this study is approximately 87% average score with very good category.

This study was aimed to analyse the ability of prospective Biology teachers to master the learning concepts and Biology Science materials in Junior High Schools. The used method in this study was a descriptive analysis, involving some prospective teachers (the students who were taking micro-teaching courses (PPL-1) in even semester of 2017/2018 academic year) in the Biology Education Study Programme FKIP Untan, as the research subjects. A total of 30 university students with GPA ≥ 3.00 were randomly selected. The instrument in this study was an ability assessment of learning concepts and materials of Biology Science in junior high schools. The data analysis was done in descriptively qualitative and quantitative methods; including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, data analysis using means and percentages, and conclusions eventually. The results showed that the prospective Biology teachers in mastering the concept of learning obtained an average value of 76.89 with A, B, and C grades respectively, 46.67%, 40.00%, and 13.33%. For mastering the biology science concept, it was obtained an average value of 75.73 with grade A, B, and C respectively, 33.33%, 46.67%, and 20.00%. It was certainly concluded that the ability of prospective biology teachers in mastering the concepts of learning and the materials of Biology Science was classified into the good category.
